Why aren't more people entering the chalk contest? I didn't realize there was a contest for a while. Is that what's happening? So many people participate in the sketch challenges. Well I challenge you to participate in the chalk contest. It's lots of fun and you will learn a cool new technique. If you don't have chalk inks borrow from a friend. I bet you'll love them after this.
You ladies need to get the chalk inks!!! They are awesome! THey work on vellum very nicely, don't take an hour to dry like the pigment inks do, and the colors can be vibrant or subtle against each other! They are easy to use, and fun to play with! You can DTP with them, and even emboss them if you want.
Word of caution: plan to get the re-inkers - I'm betting you'll end up using the chalk inks a lot!!!!!
If I could find the cord to move the pictures from my digital camera to the computer, I'd be in this contest yesterday!!!! :-)
what are these chalk pads ya'll are talking about? I only know of the pigment and classic pads.
These pads are available through SU and come in different color palettes. They dry very quickly, and have gorgeous solid color capabilities. Beate created some WONDERFUL technique tutorials you can find by clicking o the resources link above.

I figured most people didn't have the chalk pads yet when we put in the tutorials...in fact, I started telling people to buy them when I wrote the text for the tutorials to go up because I knew they would like the techniques but not be able to do them. I am in that boat my self. I have them on order but they won't be here until the 18th! And for some reason the chalk pads have not been available at other places like Michaels etc. I don't know anybody nearby who had them either...so I am waiting for Mr. Brown....
Y'all are going to love them when you get them. I had trouble with drunken chalks so I kind of changed it up to a kind of smackin acetate meets drunken chalks. I get a softer effect with that. Check it out in my gallery or the contest page. Fun Fun Fun
I tried the crinkled chalks technique and loved the way it came out. I want to try thr drunken chalks but I need to get the alcohol. Does it matter which % you use 70 or 91? I have to learn how to upload from my new digital camera so I can enter the contest.

Hey!!! Thanks for noticing... I was not on too much these past few days...ok well week I guess... tough week here on the homefront. Adam is TDY and it is just tough... LOL But no more complaining!!!
Those are Shrek ears!!! LOL Coleton is funny, he leaves sunglasses on, head bands, hats... all sorts of funny props~~ SO I had to share this pic!!! LOL
He's such a cutie. Mine are all grown up now 18 and 20. So no more cutesy things, well sometimes but it's not the same. Too cool to be cute. This is probably my last year with kids. Not looking forward to empty nest. Might have to get another pet.

Stampaway, I'm not sure about a prize, but I feel like I have already won. I have finally found my own style or at least the ability to create my own cards and not CASE all the time.

I can't keep up. I'm in Maryland, not that far away. In fact we picked up my DHs truck in Charleston last year. Long story but great deal. Do you have family nearby to help out? We were in the AF for 12 years, Dh got out right as Desert Storm was starting up. All he had to do was deliver a few planes to the east coast and then he was done. Missed military life for a long time but I'm over it now.

Are the chalk pads in the catalog.....if so what page?
I have looked and can't find them either that or I don't really know what I'm looking for........
I am sure I can't compete with the talent on this site. I have the chalk ink pads and love them, but I know I could never come up with a good enough design to win.
How sad is this :( I own them but have never opened them.
I have no ideas that just shout to me to play with these yet.
Perhaps a helpful soul will put together a list of great ideas under "resources"?
Karen and Faith,
Take out your chalk pads! I'm going to walk you thru this my way.
1: get a piece of acetate or plastic (I used the plastic that the card stock used to come in)
2: Pick out a color of ink, pounce it around about the size of your card.
3:Cut glossy 5.5 by 4.25.
4: Now spray pounced ink with rubbing alcohol more or less it will effect the out come, experiment .
5:lay the glossy side down on the ink, rub over the back with your fingers (I spread outward to the edges.)
6:lift your CS and view your result.
7:You can dry it with you heat tool.
8: repeat whole step with a metalic ink. I take it easy with the metalic ink
9: use this backgroud and create a card .
Now devote a couple of pieces of glossy cs. 2 cut into 4 equals 8 pieces to play with. Experiment. Start with one colr then try more. Have fun and let me know what you think.
