The wheeled tote is a must! My first CHA was the summer show in Chicago last year. As the show was opening I couldn't figure out why all these people had either small suitcases or some kind or rolling tote. I figured my backpack would be fine. Boy was I wrong!! At the Chicago show there was a coat check so I could at least unload stuff and then collect it all at the end of the day.
You definitely want to leave room for bringing back make-n-takes and class projects in your suitcase. For the summer show, I was driving back and forth to Rosemont from the western 'burbs so I didn't have to worry too much but you should have seen DH's face every night when I came home with a trunk full of stuff! I'm eyeing a collapsible tote Staples has on-line for under $25. It looks like it wouldn't be as bulky as a small suitcase.
Definitely get a map or layout of the land before you go so you have at least some strategy as to how to navigate around. It can quickly become overwhelming.
I just checked and it looks like quite a few of the classes on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday still open. If you pre-register online the class description will tell you what tools are needed for the class, if any.
I found out that Sarah Moore from Craft Critique is on my flight! Yeah....so cool to be meeting an SCS'er that I swapped with on more than one occassion. It would be fun if there was an SCS gathering Saturday night.....not that I am inviting myself or anything like that. Tee-Hee.
Maybe we should bring the party to CA! LOL I am really excited and can't wait to get there. I have heard so many great things about CHA. Got my comfy shoes and outfits and now I am working on the wheeled bag.
I do have a question about the classes. Some of them require you to bring a cutter or scissors. How do you get that on the plane? i thought those type of items would be confiscated.
Check baggage with weapons in them...lol,. i.e. scissors.
And I think scissors are allowed up to a certain blade length but I'm not 100% on that. Maybe like paper snips are fine. But I'm sure the airline website says for sure.
I'll bring all my tools for the classes in the checked-in suitcase. But I will not bring my best tools, just the spare ones in case anything gets lost.

Hey quick question -
I'm on a Mac (or I'm just computer challenged on this thing) and the website for CHA won't work :(.
Can anyone tell me what the cost to attend is and how do you prove that you are "in the business" if you do not own a shop or sell anything on a tax id? See below note that is on the first page of their website.
Please note:
* This Convention & Trade Show is for the trade only. Individuals who cannot document their direct professional affiliation will not be admitted.
Is this just your CHA ID number?

Give them a call, I'm sure they will answer any questions about justifying your existence...LOLOLOL
QUESTION? can you buy things and take them with you at this show????
No, there is no taking from the show...I believe that store orders can place pre-orders, but the only thing that you can take with you from the show are your make & takes that you do, and any free samples/catalogs that you collect...at least that is what I have been told.
Is anyone attending the Disney dinner event? Or Suze Orman speaking presentation?
Maybe Suze Orman... I 'd like to hear her rationalize my scrapbook/stamping spending habits! Anyone else think she's an odd choice for a speaker??? As far as disneyland goes... CHA is my disneyland! lol!

however; sometimes the vendors have free gifts to take with you IF you place an order at the show... I know in the sumer Zutter (bind-it-al) was gifting a free machine in an adorable rolling suitcase if you ordered a pack of I think 6 bind-it-alls.

That is going to be the quote of the year. You should put that in your signature!!! And yes, I think that Suze Orman as the speaker is a strange choice.... debt diet counselor at a craft and hobby convention....hmmmm....I'm not seeing the connection here.....considering how many people are in debt with their stamping obsession Suze is an odd choice in my book. Is that considered an oxymoron?

Not at all. She's a financial advisor and this is a business convention with a large number of women business owners. I think she has a great connection with female audiences so she's a good choice. Her topic is "You and Money: How Your Relationship with Money Affects Your Business and Your Life".

I love Suze Orman...I have many of her books. I was actually really excited when I learned she was the speaker. I attended the Martha Stewart presentation last year, and it was fun to see her in person--but she spent most of the presentation talking about her own products and I didn't find myself learning anything from her that night that was useful for my own business. As a business owner I'm much more excited to hear what Suze has to say...I know she'll have a lot of great financial advice!
I am also going to visit the Mouse at least once...I just love Disneyland too much to stay away! And my team and I are going to the California Adventure event too....who can resist a night of dining and dancing?! I can't wait!

Well from a business stand point I can fully appreciate the excitement of Suze Orman being the guest speaker....she knows her stuff. From a stampers stand point... she scares me...only because I am in denial that I have issues with my "gotta have it" behaviors. LOL
I don't think I have hit my rock bottom yet and I am not ready for a Suze Orman smack down. Look what she does to those people on Oprah. Yes, she helps them for the better but she still scares me with her in your face delivery.
I should have prefaced my comment with the fact that I am a fan of SO... I was sort of poking fun from a customers perspective (I am not a vendor or LSS owner... but a customer). I get that she will be valuable to the business owners attending... I'm just worried she might pull me up on stage and ask to see my checkbook! lol!

Yeah-- I might sit in the back just in case ;) ha ha!

I'm sure the Disney Dinner event will be a BLAST! I had so much fun at the "Summer of Love" CHA Summer. Even though I attended alone, I met so many friendly people there.
