I can't find a lot of my stamps as I have a poor storage system going. I thought of stamping the image of each stamp (lot of work) onto a page and put the pages in a binder, under various headings. e.g. flowers, birds, etc. What do you think?
Has anyone tried this system before? I thought I wouldn't have to go scrounging through boxes of stamps when trying to think of what stamp I would use. Just flip through the binder.
Of course, this does not solve my problem of stamps in boxes. The sets aren't so much a problem as I have them on shelves. It's more the individual non SU! stamps.
I have done this, too, and thank goodness I did it before I had too many sets. I stamp every set I own into this binder under categories such as: Alphabets, Angels/Fairies, Animals, Anniversary and on it goesl. I refer to my binder ALL THE TIME! I LOVE it and it gets me using sets together that I might not have thought of on my own. For example, the card I used today combined Sweet Treats with a background stamp from I Like Your Style. Never would have happened with out my handy dandy image binder!
Oops, I should clarify . . . I stamped every STAMP I owned into this binder. It's not just SU *sets*, but the whole mix and mesh of what I own.
I also have a second binder that I stamp just sentiments in. That way, when I am looking for just the right sentiment, I can go to my sentiment binder and look just at words and not be distracted by all the images.
Hi, I did that and have found it very helpful. Now I try to remember to photocopy the images before I break them apart to mount the stamps and add to my book in that way. Each sheet is in a sheet protector also. I find I turn to it often.
Ok, then for the binder, do you stamp your sets together? Or lets say you have a set that has a bird and a stem of a tree in the same set. Would you put the bird in the 'animal' section and the stem in a 'foliage/garden' section?
I am wondering if I should keep my SU sets stamped together.
Regarding sentiments, do you put all your 'thank you' sentiments in one place, your birthday ones in another? I mean, I understand all the sentiments are together, but do you further divide them up?
I started by making an index of categories, eg. animals, baby, flowers, etc., then I stamped each stamp in the appropriate category with a notation which set it is from. I have all my sets numbered S-1, S-2 etc., so I can look at my binder (which I keep in my scraprack) then find the set I want in seconds.

Ok -
I do stamp my bird in the *bird* section, my leaves in a *leaves & trees* section and if they are together on the same stamp, I will stamp them in both sections.
I have three binders - one with all my categories, one with just SU sets, and one for sentiments where I divide them up just as you mentioned in your post. I like having a *set binder* because it's the only place I can go to where I can see all my SU sets at a glance and what is with each set . . . since my other binders have things divided all over the place according to categories. HTHs!
Just posted an article on my blog about organizing my stamps...(all types) and I do use a binder system. People seemed to like the info, so instead of retyping it here...I will give you a link directly to that entry.
My method actually allows me to not only provide a stamped image of the stamp and categorize it, but allowes me to use it before the stamp is put on the paper to verify it fits where i want to stamp it..
I stamped my images on clear transparency sheets, cut them out, and then wrote on them using a black permanant marker (thin ones) what the name of the stamp is and the company, so I can store them in envelopes by category. The nice thing is that I can take them out and place them on top of what I'm making to see if they fit before I stamp
I use stazon ink and it seemed to work out pretty well for me ..
Everytime I get a new SU set I take two photocopies. I cut one and put it in the clear box with the stamp set and one for the binder. It helps when you pick up a box when you can see the picture of the stamps. I also stamp my individual stamps (non SU etc) for the binder.
I just stamped all my SU sets and put them in a binder broken up the way the catalog is. That made the most sense for me! I flip thru and see what set I want to work with.....
I am curious if I will have to change my dividers with the new catalog, or if the divisions will remain the same?

Very well said Colleen and very nice job. I have done the same thing but I did stamp each flower/animal/etc. into its own category besides doing the full stamped set page. When I numbered/lettered each stamp set in alphabetical order so A1,A2, A3, B1, B2, B3 etc. But your numbering system works perfectly also. So Denise, its up to you which way you do it. It is a lot of work but it priceless when its done. It took me all winter to do my SU and singles next winter I"ll work on my acryllics., hopefully. Good luck
Kathy
I am in the process of creating a binder - I photocopy the SU sticker sheets before I mount the stamps, or I sacrifice 2 catalogs and cut out the sets I have - and I will eventually stamp all of the loose stamps I have.
My binder is divided into sections - as are my stamp set storage shelves, so everything is easy to find once I decide what stamp I want.
I have all my stamps in SU cases - even the non-SU ones.
I consolidate sets into larger boxes that are similar (Loads of Love + Accessories, similar flower sets, etc)
I store my background stamps sans case, so that freed up some cases, and have purchased some of the "Jumbo" cases.
I also pull all of the sentiments, quotes and word stamps from the sets and store them together.
I just bought an EZ Mount storage system from Sunday International that I LOVE LOVE LOVE - I had a binder, and then bought the sheets that the stamps stick to - and dividers.
SO easy to leaf through the unmounteds this way.
