Default cardstock and label makers ?'s

I recently saw on this site an idea for using a label maker and strips of cardstock as the label tape. Well, I got the white core cardstock and the label maker but I cannot make it work. Any suggestions or hints? I need to use this for a day camp on Friday so I need help.
Thanks,
Barbara

What can't you get to work? I've tried it on vellum and on regular cardstock and haven't had any trouble.

I tried it too, sometimes it works, sometimes not. I think it just might take more patience than I have.

I have been searching for a label maker that I know is in my house SOMEWHERE just to try this! I'm not sure about what problem you are having but I also read about gently using sandpaper to remove the top layer of the color from the letters so they stand out white. I hope this helps.

I found the white core card stock at Archivers it was a stack of papers called mat stack by DCWV die cuts with a view. Not all of their paper is white core just some of it. The problem I am having is the paper won't feed into the label maker, it just sits there and all of the letters print in the same space.

I watched Tim Holtz effortlessly punch a label on cardstock on The Carol Duvall Show. I immediately bought a label maker, cheapo, from Target. His looked like a cheapo too so I thought what the heck. It does work really well but you have to squeeze pretty hard to get good impressions. Love the look though.

Maybe it's defective??? Have you tried it with the actual label tape that comes with the label maker?

Yes it works just fine with the regular tape that comes with the label maker. I am getting near panic mode here, since the day camp that I need to use it for is on Friday. Maybe I'll see if anyone else has a label maker I can try.
thanks

Here's what I learned about this subject:

1. I have to put a very long piece of cardstock through the labelmaker. Plenty sticking out the front and plenty sticking out the back!

2. Sometimes, the labelmaker just doesn't want to grab on to the cardstock. I tried putting some temporary (as opposed to permanent) mono on the back to help it go through. It works sometimes and doesn't others.

3. It'll eventually work! Just takes some trial and error!

Thanks for the reply Barbara; I don't think we have an Archivers around here but I'm guessing I'll find the DCWV mat stacks at Michaels or AC Moore; I too bought a "cheapo" label maker & didn't have much luck with even the label tape feeding thru! If I find the paper I'll try again; I saw something else made w/this paper though; it was dry embossed then lightly sanded to let the white core show thru; same idea I guess; Good Luck tomorrow!
