Please inspire me! One of my favorite younger cousins is going to college in the fall. I thought I might make her a set of cards for different occasions to use during the school year. Everyone needs cards to send out, even a college freshman who is used to emailing. I was thinking Birthday, Sorry, Hello, Miss You -- that type of thing. Maybe a dozen?
But the cards I think are fun, a girl 18 years old might think are dopey. So can you show me some of your cards that you gave to girls who are around that age, or made for them to use -- and that they really liked? Maybe there are some SCS'ers out there who just recently graduated college who could give me some ideas for some hip and trendy-looking cards?
Thanks!

I would think she would like the Stampabella style images. Of course, the style would be reflected by who the recipient was to be, not just the sender's tastes.
That's a great idea, and I'll bet she would appreciate having cards to send and not have to go buy them.
But....this age is hard to figure I think. I have a granddaughter who is 18 who is very into all things vintage and old fashioned. She usually shops at thrift stores for all her clothes. Oh, and she is also a vegetarian, not your average bear at all.
Then I have another granddaughter about the same age who only wants the latest and greatest trendy things.
If you aren't sure of her taste in card styles, maybe her taste in clothing and music would give you a clue - trendy and cute, or more classic.

I agree. It depends on the girl and her personal tastes. My niece is heading off to college this fall, too, and she's more on the tomboyish side...also very into Japanese anime...so I'd say look to her tastes in other things for some clues. If that doesn't work, ask her or her mom what she likes.
hmmm, good points. My cousin is a big reader and is very quiet, and more-than-somewhat shy. She is studious and going to a very competitive college. I don't know if she is into music at all. She is a vegetarian, as is her whole family. She is not into clothing or shopping. Her parents don't care about any of that stuff and it has trickled down to her. She is the oldest of 4 children, the youngest is 6.
I think she is a girl who doesn't yet know who she is, if that makes any sense.

Hmm...if she's a vegetarian, not into commercialism, etc. perhaps she'd like cards made with recycled materials? I'm also thinking maybe some nature type images, very simple, clean designs...
My daughter seems to teeter between edgy and whimsical, but then again, so do I.
She really likes the tattoo-inspired images of Bombshell Stamps and loves skulls/skeletons/Dia De La Muerte type images. Those are the ones that she asks me to use for boxes, her clipboard (in the works), and other room-decor projects.
What are your cousin's interests? Does she have pets? What are her hobbies? What are her favorite colors? Does she like any specific clothing designer or clothing style?
My daughter loves music, so music-themed cards are great for her. She loves to write, so I have made a "WRITE" sign for her room at home and will be making a smaller vertical version for her dorm room. She's a reader, so I made a door hanger that says "Shhh! She's reading!"
She collects quotes, so cards with quotes are especially good for her. I usually computer generate the quote and then use stamps that work with the subject matter.
If it's too tricky to figure out what kind of cards you think she might like to give to others for birthdays/miss you/etc, another idea is to make a set of monogram notecards that she can use for any occasion.
I think a set of CAS design monogram notecards in the colors of her new college would be awesome and hard to go wrong with. I know when I started at my college, I was so excited and proud to be there, I adored showing pride with anything that had my school colors! Just another idea for ya.
i agree if she is into natural things there are tons of great nature stamps - also, my daughter used monogrammed cards in college. what if you made a blank set and included a pkg of "card candy" with all sorts of sentiments with adhesive attached (un-stuck of course) so she could customize the card for the occasion?
don't forget to enclose a book of stamps! that was a much appreciated gift my daughter received. someone also gave her a set of pre-printed address labels (grandparents . . . ) to use. handy!
I think clean and simple cards are always a sure winner. You could check out the CAS gallery. There are lots of great things there, and the bonus, they don't usually take a lot of time to make!
CAS is a great idea. I also like the monogram idea. And I LOVE the card candy idea. That is super! Maybe what I'll do is make a bunch of card bases in several coordinating colors and then make the card candy to match all of them. I've got PTI's Text Boxed and there are some very lovely Nature-themes images in that set, and I bet I could come up with something.
Thanks ladies. Am going to look at CAS right now. I just want to please her, but I think whatever I give her will be OK, just because it will be from me.
