there are quite a few organizations that take them, the one I give to is operationwritehome.org the cards go to the troops overseas so that they have cards to send home to thier loved ones!
I also donate cards to 'cards for a cause' or to my church card sales where the money earned is used to outreach programs supported by the church. There are some listed on this site.
This may sound crazy, but I actually mail all of mine! I only make maybe 3 to 5 per week and I belong to a few RAK lists. So I mail them out to friends, family, and gals on the RAK lists. I enjoy it- but I don't do this hobby to make money. I do it for fun and because it relaxes me!
Since you're a RAK member, you are always welcome to participate in the Wish-RAK cards for the troops round up, even if you aren't a member of Wish-RAK sub-group (you just won't get the Wish-RAK 'bonuses'). You should be able to see all the details in this link for the most recent Wish-RAK cards for the troops roundup. You're welcome to send any cards you have made to Kris (due to Kris by Dec 12 for this round), even if you're not part of the Wish-RAK sub-group but try to keep the cards to the categories (birthday, valentines day, Easter etc) listed in the challenges. For example, for this round we're not doing Christmas cards (we did those in September) because they wouldn't get to the troops in time to send home.
Let me see....
Thousands every year shipped off to the troops.
Supply all cards for sale in church bookstore. I donate these for the church to profit.
Supply all birthday and anniversary cards to my church to send to members.
Supply 1250 cards every year to two swim teams to sell for fund raisers (I get paid for these)
Supply a sweet lady in a retirement facility via another sis so they can sell the cards to raise money for their Christmas party.
I think that is it for now...sometimes you will find someone on SCS who is in dire need of cards for fund raising for a health issue and I will send off a box of 250-300 to them. The sad thing is...my personal birthday cards, anniversary etc are ALWAYS late these days...lol
Oh and I supply cards for WishRak birthdays..
Amber, you're a riot! You are such a giving and loving person. I chuckled about your personal ones being late because mine usually are, too. I get them made in plenty of time - it is getting them to the mailbox that seems to throw me.
AND, gasp, I am sending non homemade Christmas cards this year.
: )

I only make cards as I need them. So I only make 2 or 3 per month. I have lots of extras from workshops that I used to save but have begun to send out. Some I've given to a local thrift store.

I will be sending 2 boxes to SPRTCHICK for her cards for troops project.
I also donate cards to a local nursing home for the residents to use to send to family and friends.
I sell my cards at craft fairs. For this season of fairs (I did 3) I sold TONS. They were definitely my biggest seller. So I recoup some of my financial investments. Notice I said "some."

One contact to use to send cards to our troops is at the website: www.operationwritehome.org
I really enjoy supporting our troops this way and this organization just seems to "fit" with me. They have a nice blog. They always acknowledge receipt of my cards and are kind enough to send "thank you" e-mails.
I give a lot to my mom to send to relatives for b-days, weddings, anniversaries (she tells me how many she needs every month), give to co-workers for b-day, and the rest get sent to operationwritehome.
I too make cards as a hobby. I really like sending to the troops because I get to embellish and don't have to worry about the cost for them to mail.
My cardmaking is also a hobby. I make them for friends and family and donate to a project that supplies cards for Ronald McDonald Houses. I do get busy in the fall making Christmas cards for family to send out. I've made 125 so far and have a hundred or more to go. I have to put up all my craft stuff when company comes so we can use the murphy bed but the company all left yesterday so I'll be set up again by tomorrow!
