Default canvas question

okay, i confess i am artistically challenged. at least i HAVE the new canvas background stamp. my question is: how to ink it properly. when i ink it the way i do my other background stamps (upside down, pat pat pat with the classic ink pad) i get all these lines from the ink pad when i transfer the design to c/s. so can anyone explain to me how NOT to get those lines across the canvas pattern?

there are always, always such wonderful responses on this forum, i learn a ton of stuff from all you ladies. so am very hopeful there is some very obvious and simple solution to this dilemma. thanks so much!!!

Hi Doodles,

To eliminate the lines on the canvas stamp, try applying your ink with the rubber brayer. Works like a gem. I've done it "line-free" many times.

So Doodles, I know you have a brayer in that fab stamp room somewhere!!! OK, I confess, Doodles and I are sisters...unfortunately we don't live near eachother so we spend hours on the phone talking about SU, Coastal, cards, etc...and then there's the internet!

I had the same questions re the canvas background ...although I do like the effect of the lines for some cards....so I'm off to try the brayer which I used last with black ink and now can't get it clean...we are talking about the rubber brayer, yes?

Barbara, try cleaning your brayer with versamark. Roll it across your VM as if you were loading it. Then let it lay (overnight if you can!) and clean as usual. You may need to repeat the process but it works with my stamps so it may work with your brayer too. Good luck!

I actually like the concentration of ink from the edges of the pad on the canvas stamp. I think it leaves a cool impression.

However if you don't like them, I would also suggestion using the rubber brayer to apply your ink.

I have actually found if you slide or rub the ink pad on the canvas stamp first and then tap you will get even ink and no lines. We used this stamp at my last show with a make and take and I had a couple of newbies that were able to sucessfully ink up the stamp. I told them they were naturals because it took me 1/2 a day of playing with it to figure out how to get even color! And they were able to do it after one demonstration, plus get the whole image to ink on the paper!!!!

I use the Versamark with the canvas, that way I can highlight areas with chalk. Or I use it on the whole cardstock and you get a textured look and I haven't really noticed the lines with the Versamark. I'm attaching a couple of examples. I hope I do this right, I've been reading here a long time but have never posted.

I just got to have that stamp, it looks awesome in the examples. You can make any paper look textured! What a great concept!

Yeah, gotta put this one on my wish list for sure...

So, what is wrong with me? I've had this stamp for over a month and haven't even opened it yet. I think I need to! These are great examples!

I used mine for the first time today. I LOVE it! What the heck took me so long? This is the only current BG stamp I own. I have had numerous ones that are all retired now I really want some other ones too, but always seem to overlook them when I order. :?
