I know this has been covered time and again, but I really am too lazy to count up the votes and would like to settle this with a poll. Which background do you think is more useful - canvas or linen?
AAAAAaaagh - why oh why didn't I read this before I posted. I apologise unreservedly for the typo!!!!! Kathy (StampingWrose) if you see this, please please please change it!!!!!
I'm like Julzz, I have both but I prefer linen. Helen, if you're only getting one, get linen, but then I would say you need both! You really do get a different effect from them both.
ditto above, have both, but if Linen came out first I probably would have only gotten that one . . . who am I joking, I would still have them both but use linen more.

I agree with everyone else. I got Canvas first ... now that I have Linen, I use it a lot more. They do both have different background effects though ... linen is just so soft, it seems to go with absolutely everything. You can also use two backgrounds easily with it -- example, linen and french script ...
Albeit subtly, each does give a different effect. I was GOING to get Linen (heavily influenced by creations done by Debbiedee and Michelle Laycock), but I'm trying so hard to be good and use what I have (Canvas), which I also love.
Sorry. I'm no help, am I? :(
I'd say if I didn't have either, and had to choose only one, I'd go with Linen.
But, I still *love* Canvas muchly and feel traiterous saying that. (giggle!)

I was leaning heavily towards Linen until I saw how many people loved Canvas. I asked DH which he preferred and he said "The Canvas offers more depth of texture than the Linen, which has a tendency to look a little flat." Not bad for someone who had no idea what I was talking about, had seen neither stamp and was totally bluffing!!! To test him, I asked him about Aida Cloth and he claimed he went to school with her  .
I'm still undecided...
Canvas is great and everyone loves it, but...
Linen is newer and therefore more exciting, and more subtle - and I do like subtle.
Both remains an option, but I also have On The Spot, Dotted and Well Worn Words on my list!!!

Oh, man, that was GOOD!!!!

I predict ALL the above are in your future . . .

I have canvas and wasn't going to get linen but...... I have very little will-power and am the proud owner of Linen too. Anyways, I love the Linen so much more and hardly ever use the Canvas anymore.
Stamp with canvas then rotate 45 degrees and stamp again. Gives a more filled in look that I like better. However, it doesn't won't give you a full size image.
I personally really like them both and have them both....I know they look a lot alike, but once you stamp w/ them, you realize they are different and will think you need them both....I use both of them alot.....my fav backgrounds!
Since you didn't have a choice for both, I voted for Linen (surprised myself!). It's more subtle and I've opted for it more than Canvas since I got it last month.

You are so freakin' clever, you made me bounce!
I'm so gonna try this!!! TFS this great tip!

Where's the both option? I have both and use them equally. Canvas has more of an effect and linen in more subtle. You can get away with a not as good coverage with Linen and it looks more natural. Where is if you stamp with Canvas and you miss a spot, it stands out.
I have canvas and I have one that looks like linen from another company. On my blog, my tip for the day shows four examples using background stamps. You can see the different looks you can get with both. I guess I'm no help because I vote for both for different reasons. But, take a look. Maybe you'll like one look better and that will help with your choice.

Nothing really to add from me. I have both and use both but tend to use Linen more often since I do more soft cards. I do however like the canvas more often for masculine type cards. JMO

I use Canvas a lot but I use Linen more, because it has a more softer effect that gives 'texture' to the paper without a real specific pattern, if that makes any sense.
