Hi!
Wondering how I could get ahold of you to get cards to our troops. I don't have a lot of time right now but I would like to do it.
Thanks,

When you are ready to send cards, drop me a quick PM and I'll send you my address. Do you have all the information you need about the types of cards, lead time for "time specific" occasions (i.e. Christmas, Valentines, etc.), cheapest way to mail, etc.?
Also, dark cardstock needs to have a light colored insert put in so that the soldiers can write their messages.
pm'd you.
You had mentioned two military wives in Manitoba. I'm in Manitoba and would love to get involved somehow.
Jen
I don't know if they're doing it anymore. One of them moved way up north to another province and I think the other was a little overwhelmed by all that was going on in her life and trying to keep up the card project. I've tried their website and it's not active anymore either.
If you want to still send cards (or start it up in Manitoba again?;)) I can give you more information.
I have been going through my stash of cards, and there are a lot that I will not be using - they are from swaps - and I would love to send them to you. Please let me know the particulars in a pm.

Hi Carolyn
I just put an expresspost envelope full of Christmas cards in the mail to you.I needed to purge my stash so I could start making new ones!
I hope to get some children's birthday cards done for you as soon as holidays are over.
Jackie
Wow - this thread has been going for 2 years?!
I'm sure I could help out by sending some cards.
How does it work?
Well, let's put another "update" in here as to how it works:
I take boxes of handcrafted cards to the Edmonton Garrison every few months. They get an envelope matched up and bagged in sets of 10 and labelled as to the occasion. When they are sent over, the padre is in charge of the cards and he distributes them as needed. We've been told that at times the boxes arrive, the soldiers pick out cards to write in and send back home to their family and/or friends and the cards are going back home on the same plane that delivered them in the first place!
I prefer the cards that are 1/4 fold (a piece of 8.5x11 cut in half then folded in half to make the card) because they fit in the ziploc bags better (but I've only refused two cards over the years - one because it talked about "croaking" and one because it truly was a horrible card-I won't even go into detail - it wasn't an SCS donater!). If the cardstock is dark, it's a good idea to put a white insert in the card since the troops don't have access to different types of pens like we do. Embellishments are optional but should be firmly attached and not too bulky.
Envelopes are not required right now as I am brimming over with them, thanks to a few wonderful ladies who donated. Unfortunately the card stores are getting a little more stingy with donating envelopes.
Any occasion is good, but specific holidays need a lot of lead time (for example - I send the batch of Christmas cards in September when the new set of troops are being deployed). You can choose to stamp a sentiment inside or not.
When you're ready to send cards, drop me a quick PM and I'll give you my address. When you send the package, send me a quick email letting me know they're on their way, and I'll let you know when they arrive on this end. Please be sure to put your real name and SCS name somewhere on/in the package so that I can connect who the package is from.
When you go to the PO to mail, check if express post will be cheaper than parcel post. EP is a flat rate envelope for however much you
can stuff in it. No cards have arrived damaged (yet!) using that method and
sometimes it's quite a bit cheaper.
Hope that gets everybody "up to speed" and understands the project a little more. If you ever have questions, let me know! I don't mind.

Sounds great! Thank you.
Depending on when they arrive depends on when I let you know they made it. My hubby and I are going on a little holiday for a week, and I don't know if the PO will let someone else pick up the package.
Hi Carolyn - I too have a big whack of cards to send. I have been on vacation for most of August. I should be able to get them in the mail tomorrow. There is a variety of cards including some Christmas!!!

Thank you!
I'll update the card total after I return from our holiday. I'm thinking with the number of PM's I've been getting I'll have a stack at the post office! YEAH! What fun. :p
Got 2 packages in the mail today! One from Rainy daze and one from Eskabeeble. Thank you ladies! I won't do a card count before we're gone, but I'm sure the number will JUMP by the time I get back.
I sent 2 packages yesterday, along with some birthday rub-ons for generic cards and some decorated dominos for some small Christmas cheer in tents overseas. Enjoy your trip

Your 2 packages arrived today! Can you believe it!?!? I can't - across Canada overnight. Sometimes Canada Post surprises me! :p
Thanks - I didn't even open them - will look when we get back - can't wait!
Talk to you all later. If you think of it "bump" this up over the next week.
Evening, these cards, are you sending them to the boys in the "Sand Box" or are they being split between them and the crew in Mirage?
They get sent to wherever the Edmonton Garrison decides to ship them to. I don't make any stipulations on them. It doesn't matter where they're stationed, they still need to connect with family back home. Are you military (being in Cold Lake)?
By the way...I'm back! We had a great time and it was hard to come back to the "cold" (relatively speaking).
Will catch up with PM's, other questions, letting you know who's cards arrived (I've got a pile of envelopes in my bedroom waiting to be opened) etc. Thanks for keeping everything going while I was away. I appreciated it.
WOW! I finally got through sorting, matching envelopes, bagging and boxing all the cards that arrived while I was gone (plus shortly before we left). Big thank you goes out to my hubby, son, brother-in-law and sister-in-law for helping. The in-laws kind of felt obligated since they're staying with us until they find a place to live. Hey - I'm all for guilt to get help! ;)
Anyway, here are the names of people that are included in this count:
me,
stephgiles,
canstamper,
Lorri (sorry - I can't find your SCS name - I've looked high and low),
Irene (and her CST group from Yahoo),
stampin' grandma,
eskabeeble,
rainy daze,
and ValH.
The card total is now 8,353!! I have 6 big Stampin' Up shipping boxes stacked in my bedroom.
I'll post when I find out when they're going in.
THANK YOU to all of you - this project wouldn't go anywhere without your generosity. I appreciate every one of you for the work you put into your cards (and the money you spend sending them).
Wow Carolyn, that is an impressive total!!!! I will be gathering some more cards together in the next few weeks- that should bump up the total a little more!

I'm expecting to take cards into the Edmonton Garrison in the next week, so unless Christmas ones arrive by then, please don't send (I don't have storage space to hold them for a year). I already have BOXES of cards stacked up in my bedroom due to a lack of space in our humble abode. Other occasions will gladly be taken! :p
I just stumbled onto this thread, and of course I have some cards in my stacks that I would love to send. If you are still accepting Christmas cards, let me know and I will get those off to you ASAP. If you want others (ie -if you have ROOM for more) I will add those to the envelope as well. I understand not to send envelopes, is that correct? Also, keep the embellishments from being too bulky and blank inside except for Christmas. I'm excited to be able to show my support, so looking forward to a PM from you with more details. Thanks so much for doing this!!!

Hello and hope you're okay after your little fall. ;)
Christmas cards would have to get to me quickly - I'm still waiting to hear from the Edmonton Garrison but I anticipate taking the cards in very soon. Express Post works very well for timeliness and it seems to be the cheapest (someone can correct me if I'm wrong). You can stuff it as full as you can for a flat rate.
I always love other occasions as well! If you have envelopes you're trying to get rid of, that's fine. If not, I still have a stack. I'll have to start looking again soon, but I'm still good for a few hundred more cards.
Flatter, well attached embellies are good, and verses inside are fine, as long as it still leaves lots of room for the soldiers to write.
Hi Carolyn - I had a big demonstrator meeting yesterday and asked for donations of Christmas cards. If I get them Express Post tomorrow, can they make it with the rest of them?? Some have envelopes too. They are all Christmas cards if that helps. Please let me know. Can you e-mail me at home at [email protected] as I don't get on Splitcoast that much these days. Thanks Carolyn!!!

Hi Carolyn ... we were out of town, but as soon as I got home I got to my card boxes. I have a box packed and I will take it to the PO tomorrow. I'll have it go the fastest way, as there are Christmas cards included.
Each of my cards has an envelope slid inside it, so you won't have to bother with matching sizes up ... and the "Birthday" and "Christmas" are each in their own ziplocks. Hopefully that will make things somewhat easier for you at your end.
Thank you so much for all you do, so that we may offer our support in this small way.
Cheers!

The box arrived last night - thank you! I'm looking forward to getting through the box to count and update a new total.
I too just stumbled onto this thread. I would love to make and donate some cards. Do you still need some. If so, pm me with your address and I'll get scrappin!
