What a GREAT idea!!! The guys & gals would never think ahead of time about taking cards with them, but with the cards sitting there in front of them before they leave, they can plan ahead! WHAT a great way to keep them connected to family and friends...LOVE IT!!!!
Carolyn, you're an amazing woman!! What a kind and generous heart you have!!!
Thanks for your kind words, Chris. It's all of you that even make this project possible.
Thanks for joining in! What do you mean by how do I want them sent? If you're in the Spruce Grove area, you can hand deliver them. If not, send by our "wonderful" Canada Post. ;) Most ladies find that using the Express Post envelope works best - buy the size that will work best with the amount of cards you have (it's a flat rate), then jam it full! Other than that, you are charged parcel rates and they are ridiculous. I find it's best to wait till you have a substantial stack to make it worth your money. Not that I don't like lots of little packages - I just want people to feel they're getting the most bang for their buck.
I will PM you with my address.
When I said how do you want them sent I meant boxed or envelope. lol sorry about that, sometimes I get ahead of my self. thanks for the info, I will do as you have suggested.

That's funny! It's amazing how we can't read each other's minds on SCS (sometimes I think we can which is really scary!) :p
Unless you have an obscene amount of cards that would be better sent in a box, send with the Express Post envelope. I haven't had any damaged yet!
Hi Carolyn
I am just stuffing an Xpresspost envelope with cards and will put it in the mail today or tomorrow morning.I needed to purge my stash so I could justify some new purchases!
Thank you so much for continuing to work on this project.
Jackie
Carolyn, mine will have to wait until the first week of Aug. to send I haven't had any time to sort and stuff!! If they don't make it for mid Aug, they can go with the Oct. batch! Sorry!
Carolyn, didn't get out either Thursday or Friday to mail but one very large Xpress envy left today. Am working on getting another one out before the end of the week. So many card fronts to make into full cards. Quite a few of the next envelope will be Christmas ones. I'm having a real big purge on all theses swaps I've collected over time.
Ruth, your package arrived today! Thank you! - wow, you sure can stuff cards into that express post envelope - you are the master! :p
Once I get them counted, I will update the card total here.

Thanks for purging, Jackie! Anything to enable your buying power. hee hee

Just hoping it didn't crush too many! I think they should all be okay!
Next envelope will be going out tomorrow, Carolyn! Not quite as stuffed full but still plenty! I also have the series of cards I started with cuttlebugged b/grounds to finish and will get them to you again sometime, possibly early August but if not early September as August is going to be busy with visitors!
Thanks, Ruth! I'll let you know when they arrive. LOVED the cuttlebug backgrounds. My SIL bought the system and we had fun playing - almost tempts me to buy it! ;)

Jackie,
Your cards arrived today! Once I get them sorted and counted I will update the card total. May be a couple of days.
I was just looking around and found your wonderful thread. Please count me in. I'm going to be doing a card class with a number of seniors at a long term care nursing home my dad is in. I know they would love to make cards for our troops.
Please let me know your thoughts on making christmas cards now, they can be held until closer to christmas.

Hi Katy,
Thanks for doing this with the seniors! I had another lady do it with a group from where she works - she said it was quite a challenge, but the cards were great.
Christmas cards will need to be here by the beginning of October in order to make the turnaround time (sent from here overseas, signed, then sent back here to the families), plus that gives me time to sort, bag, box and deliver.
Just totally tidied and 'reworked' my stamp room so now I'm going to sit a stamp a while to relax! Hopefully I've made it easier to find all my stuff.

Wish I could rework my area. I live in a mobile home, so I have some crafting stuff in our addition (which is huge and serves as our office), in the laundry room and in the living room. I work on the island in the kitchen, but then have to tidy everything up to make supper. I would love to have my own crafting area!!
I tell you, we crafters will do anything to be able to craft! Even clear up every time before making dinner! I didn't have a dedicated craft space in our other house so this is a luxury.
Have a good day.
Thankfully today I had the house to myself - didn't have to clean up at all! I'm trying to catch up on my journalling, and by "catching up", I mean getting through the first half of 2007!! :p
Bira: your package arrived! Once I get them sorted and bagged, I will update the card total. I took a personal day - once in a while a girl needs one of those.
Quick update: neet (Anita) - your cards arrived yesterday. Now that I have a couple of submissions, I have a new card total and we broke the 5,000 mark!!
We are at 5,079!! Give ourselves a round of applause!!!
ValH: I received your cards from Laurie today - thank you! Once I get them officially counted I will put in the new card total again.
Thanks to all who care so deeply for our Canadian Military - YOU ROCK! :p
Carolyn, do I still have time to mail these last cards to you for the August pickup? I'll go to the PO this afternoon and get them in a large Xpress envelope. won't be as stuffed as the ones before but there are still too many for the smaller size envelope! Dont' think there are any Christmas cards in this batch but I can't entirely remember all that I made.

Yes - you have time. I'm expecting company next week, so I'm thinking the week after that I'll be doing a run into the Garrison (unless I can convince my SIL to take a trip there with me - she's my company!)
Heidi Kimmerly - I picked up your cards this morning! I'm looking at them as I'm munching on my lunch. Now I need to get my butt in gear and get all these cards sorted and counted! I'm feeling the crunch though - with our +30 weather the last couple of days my friend's apple tree is about ready to go and I want to do some picking to make some jelly, and when they're ready, it needs to be done (I'm sure alot of you know the "preserves" window we work in!) Plus get ready for company! UGH - where did those extra hours in the day go!?!!?
Cards were mailed yesterday afternoon, couldn't quite make it to the 100 mark but fairly close!! Actually a few of them got sidetracked to the Hospice as I'm now in charge of the Art Cart(therapy for both patients and their families) and we needed a few samples to let people know what I would and they could do over the next few months! Another good cause.

I have a bunch to send to you, so will try to get them out this week. I deleted all my pm's by mistake, so please send your address to me again. I promise to be more careful.
Christmas cards by the beginning of October? Ok - gotta dig those stamps out of the basement.

Sounds great! I will let you know when they arrive here. The Art Cart sounds awesome! Do you actually help with the "creating" part, or do you supply the cart? There are so many worthy and amazing causes out there. It's hard to not want to be involved in them all, especially when they help feed our own addiction! ;)

Yep, the creating part is mine and the organising of the goodies available! I'm allowed to purchase some new items such as a decent paper cutter, cardstock, punches, stamps and ink as well as help use up the HUGE available supply of 12x12 scrapbook paper ! I'm going to make up goodie bags for visiting children with non messy art supplies like crayons and colour pencils, glue sticks, little punches from $ store and note /sketch /colouring books and stickers etc so they have something positive that they can also take home with them. I'm 'throwing out' the liquid glue and paints, it really is not the right environment for that unless heavily supervised!!!
You're right, so many good causes and not enough time or resources to fill them all!
