Default Can sponge daubers be washed & reused?

I know I should just try this, but the sponge daubers are expensive. Has anyone washed and reused them successfully? Did you soak them in dish soap? Dishwasher? Other technique?

Thanks in advance!

I do it all the time. I clean mine with Simple Green and rinse until the water is clear.
The daubers will remain stained but will sponge cleanly.

I have used dish soap to clean mine. I just lather up come soap in my hand and rub them against my hand then rinse really well.

I have three of the big ones ... I use one for light, med and dark inks and wash them with dish soap after each use. I've had them for a while and they seem fine.

I rinse mine until all the ink comes out in the sink and then re-use them.

i wash mine in my kitchen sink with my dish soap & then dry them on the window sill. If I use a sparkly ink with them, I wash them twice or I end up with left over sparkle on my other inkpads. JIL

I have this container by my stamp table. After I have used a sponge....any kind....I throw it into the container and when there are a number of them in it, I just throw them into the washer with the towel load. I don't even put them into anything. I do NOT dry them in the dryer though. Seems to work great. They are stained but the color doesn't come off.

I love the washing machine plan -- I've discovered that I'm getting lazy as I age.

I like that idea. I do a lot of sponging and it would be nice not to waste time searching for a specific dauber.

I'm sorry I can't remember who listed this tip, but a SC stamper suggested buying chair tips (they come in many sizes) and then put in makeup sponges. I do this all the time, and they are super cheap, work as good as the "real" ones and of course, not only can you wash them, but if one ever wears out, just pop out the sponge, replace, and you have a new sponge dabber!

Didn't want to hijack the thread, but if you want lots of washable dabbers for super cheap, this is the way to go.

chair tips come all kinds of different ways, I think she was talking about the one's that are felt, and they come in all kinds of different sizes too! If you have a local hardware store you can find them there too, heck even the grocery store might have some!

Hi, sorry to be slow to respond!

Chair tips are a hard plastic piece that is to slide on the bottom of chairs to keep the chair legs from scratching floors. They are very similar in shape to sponge daubers, but they do not have the place/hole where you usually place your finger. I have found them at Home Depot, and Menards type stores. They come four to a package. I then buy a large bag of cosmetic sponge rounds and fold up the sponge and shove it into the chair tip. You then have something that is very much like the commercial sponge daubers. You can buy them in several different sizes and so I have a separate one for every color I sponge/distress with. They work great and are very cheap.

I do the same thing. I have a small SU clamshell box and I just label them and you never have to clean them. I don't have one for every color, just general colors, like light blue, red, pink, etc. Works great for me and no dishpan hands!

I have to admit I have a floss box full, too. I seldom wash mine, but on occasion I do, and it works fine.

I just wanted to add that if you are considering buying chair tips and make-up sponges, you may want to look at a hardware store or home improvement store for the chair tips. I was in WalMart this AM and they sell rubber chair tips. I have always bought plastic tips. I am not saying that the rubber ones won't work, but I have not tried them. I like the feel of the plastic ones and they are quite similar to the "real" ones.
