Can anyone help me? A couple Qs about Papertrey Stamps...
I have never used these stamps before, I just got to looking at their selection tonight and I must say I really like many of their sets!! Now, can you help?
Q: How is the quality of their stamps?
Q: How hard is it to mount their stamps? They come clear correct? And they get mounted onto the acrylic blocks?
When using clear stamps, you don't permanently adhere them to blocks, you just stick them on (they stick by themselves), stamp, peel them off, and put them back in the case. I don't mean to insult your intelligence if you already knew that, some people think they get permanently mounted.

No, not at all... I thought they were permanently mounted. I have never worked with this type before so I appreciate your input and information!! Thank you!!

The first time I saw clear stamps in the craft store, I thought they were just fancy stickers, and couldn't figure out why they were so expensive! hehe
Recently bought 2 sets from PTI, like you, never owning any before. I am pleasantly suprised by the AMAZING quality image you get from them (every time)! LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!!!!!!!!!! You will not be disappointed if you buy
I just wanted to chime in on the quality. And if I were to put my finger on it...even the smallest stamps make clear sharp impressions. The smallest sentiments are always legible. I've had problems with other company stamps (from Michaels etc..) where I wanted a small alphabet and the stamp actually smooshed down making the words blurry and illegible. Never with PTI. Sharp impressions on detail. And they have a large selection of bold stamps too. ;)
And if you are just getting into clear stamping, I'd suggest collecting as many acrylic blocks as you can. Multiples of the same size are actually helpful when working on projects. You can have everything you want to use mounted and ready to go.
I just have to chime in and agree that their stuff is great quality! As you may find out, sometimes after a lot of use, the stamps don't stick as well to their case or the acrylic block. If you notice that happening, just wash the stamp really well, and it will restore the "stickiness." Oils and dirt and build up with use and make them not stick as well, but a quick wash takes care of that problem. I don't think you will be disappointed at all if your try their stuff!
I might suggest if you get the Paper Trey stamps (which are wonderful, by the way) that you also be sure to have the right ink to use with them.
I personally like Versafine Onyx pigment ink, and I think lots of people use Memento inks. It seems some of the dye inks don't work very well with the clear stamps.

Their quality is excellent. You don't "mount" clear stamps, per se... you temporarily smack 'em onto an acrylic block ;) . Then whip 'em off when you're done.
You can buy acrylic blocks with gridlines on them if you want them lined up perfectly on a block and the gridlines can help you place them. I tend to use the SU grid paper as my scrap underneath my project. When I need to make sure something will stamp exactly in a line, I test stamp it on the grid paper first to make sure I can eyeball it and stamp it straight. Actually, I even do this extra step when I'm using blocks with gridlines on them!
I spoke to a new stamper not that long ago who told me she'd be interested in purchasing some of my used acrylic stamps and that her husband would "cut the acrylic blocks for her" - thinking they each needed their own acrylic block. Quite the revelation when you go from that to learning that you only "mount" them temporarily!
Also, something about Papertrey. There are a ton of companies with great rubber stamps, cling-mounted for use with acrylic blocks, wood-mounted, bare rubber, and clear stamps too. The huge advantage of clear is of course ease of placement. Papertrey, I think, has made their mark on the stamp world by focusing on elements in their stamp sets. Most of their sets are designed to take advantage of stamping various elements together. The first set I used from PTI was Green Thumb, and it was quite a different experience to compose my own image by combining the pieces in different ways.
Also, since you are new to clear stamps, let me just say that Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamps are some of the highest quality stamps I've used. I'm telling you, I literally *gasped* the first time I used one of their stamps. Their style is pure vintage.
But back to PTI -- if you order from them, try the assortment of their cardstock. It's heavier than SU and fabulous to work with. I will not be without their white and ivory. And the ribbon... the buttons.... good stuff.

BEYOND the best quality! EVERYTHING they have for sale....AWESOME! Might explain why I have a LOT of $$$ invested in their products! Do NOT hesitate to buy ANYTHING from them!
Lots of great comments...but I want to double-up a couple...they are important!
If you are only an SU ink user, you most likely will not be thrilled with your first stamped PTI images...they do better than most clear stamps with the SU dye inks, but they look SO MUCH BETTER with the hybrid or pigment inks!
And the tip on having LOTS of Acrylic blocks...I definitely agree!! And especially with PTI, get some TINY blocks, I find that they are so much easier to use with some of the tiniest pieces of the images.
And like everyone said...PTI is SUPER quality!!

Me too! I had NO idea what they were the first time I saw them. And I remember a friend of mine thought you had to have an acrylic block for each stamp.
I love my Papertrey stamps. Try some of the matching papers and inks as well. Tonight is the blog hop, great way to go through their forums and see all the projects people have made.

So I would assume that PTI's own inks work well with acryllic stamps right? What other inks are the best to use with the acryllics?
I really wish SU inks worked better with the acryllic stamps.
I don't yet own any PTI products but I definitely intend to buy some soon!
PTIs ink are custom colored versions of Palette ink. The Palette brand is a hybrid of dye and pigment inks that work really well with ALL clear stamps. To make the SU inks work well, I first ink the stamp in versamark, then ink with my SU pad -- this really mimics the hybrid qualities of Palette and helps the image stamp very nicely.

I have no trouble with SU inks and PTI stamps. I just stamp in Versamark first and then in the SU ink. Perfect images every time. AND my stamps don't seem to stain this way nearly as badly. Double bonus. LOL!

Colorbox pigment inks work well, also. I've started getting the PTI inks because they have matching colors, and I love that they don't take so long to dry.
I don't have any problem with my SU inks. I condition my PTI stamps before the first use using a sanding block, very gently, over the stamps and then clean them with my stamp scrubber. After this the ink sticks without any problems.
I just wanted to add the nice thing about most of their images is that they are solid options. So if you need to make a quick card you don't need to worry about coloring in or paper piecing. But there are still nice design elements, like with the Tea Set, the different pots have different designs in them (flowers, swirls, dots, etc.) And if you do get some of the matching sets of cardstock, pp, ink, ribbon, buttons, it all works very nice together.
Whenever I need to get something done quick or do a gift set of some sort I always reach for PTI!
