Default Can any Canadian SU demos please answer a couple of questions for me?

I am am American living in Canada waiting for my permanent residency to go through. I want to take the leap and become a demo for hobby purposes (later for profit when I am a legal resident).

Can I sign up like this? Do I HAVE to have a social insurance number to become a demo? Can I put my Social Security # instead, or none at all?

Thanks
Suzy

As far as I know, you do need a Canadian Social Insurance number, but I can't be 100% sure. I've only been a demo for 1 year now.

If you don't find an answer from anyone here, I can always call Demonstrator Support and ask them for you.

Let me know...I'll help if I can.

I'm pretty sure you DO need a Social Insurance # in order to sign up - however the only way to know for sure would be to ask SU - the # is 1-800-STAMP UP

I HTH!!

Be careful doing this before getting your residency! Since being a demo is considered being self employed (in other words, working) it could jeopardize your residency going through! When I was working on mine, they actually revoked my Visa in a similar situation. Expensive and a huge headache! You may want to check with immigration before you sign up. Or just wait till your residency comes through. It also would depend on what kind of Visa you're on. When I finally did get my work Visa (which was very specific to what job I could have and how many hours I could work) they gave me a SIN that marked me as a non-permanent resident (I think it started with 900 which indicated my status). Once my permanent residency came through, I was issued a new permanent number. Hope that helps. Good luck with the whole immigration circus! Have fun jumping through their hoops! After 10 years up here I'm finally applying for my Citizenship and I'm just dreading it!
