I'm a lefty to!!!! In my family I also have 2 brothers that are left handed but I have 2 brothers and a sister who are right handed so we are kind of split down the middle!
This has really gotten me thinking about how I demo things because I never thought of it being odd that I would do things left handed!!!! Interesting. It really made me think about how I stamp...lefty or righty....(lefty by the way!)

I'm a lefty, but can do most things with both hands. DS a righty but nearly ambidexterous. DH definately a righty! Funny how arty and creative types are usually lefties Hope I've opened a whole can of worms with that statement
I'm a lefty too, but cut with my right hand. I could never get the hang of using scissors with my left hand when I was little so taught myself to cut with my right hand. Having said that, I'm terrible at cutting things out - my family teases me about being scissor impaired.
Any other lefties have trouble with directions? I can't tell my right from my left and usually give directions to people backwards.
My daughter is a lefty. Noone else in the family is lefties. DH's oldest half brother & the other half brothers ds is both lefties so it must run on DH's dad's side (half brothers & DH have the same dad). I tie my shoes left handed & so it was easy showind DD how to tie her shoes however not been as easy showing DS who is right handed. DD is also slighty dyslexic. She doesn't tilt her paper or bend her hand all up either but she hates how she gets pencil marks all over her left hand from writing.
I'm a lefty too! (and so is my DH) My mother always makes fun of me because I taught the dog to shake hands "left-pawed"!
I can do lots of things with my right hand though. It comes in handy when stamping/making cards if I have to do something fiddly or if my left hand is full of glue/ink.
I'm a lefty, so is DH, but so far none of our kids seem to be. I also have a SIL and BIL, nephew and an uncle who are all left handed. I actually stamp with both hands depending on which side of the stamp I'm trying to line up. hmm... interesting. I've never really thought about it b-4. this is a fun thread

did you know that August 13 is National Left-Handers Day?
Didn't know that! Very cool.
As I've read thru this, the more I think about it I realize that I'm actually quite a bit ambidexterous (sp???). I think that for a lot of us, it was just easier to adapt to what everyone around us was doing - we just copied what they did.
I play the piano and it is a MAJOR advantage to be a lefty. Most people really really struggle with the lower, left hand because it's so weak. But being my dominant hand, I picked it up really well.
And I can stamp with either hand, so that comes in handy when one hand gets tired!!!
For anyone that lives close to or will visit San Francisco, there's a lefty specialty store on Pier 49 (or is it 59??). It has the COOLEST gadgets for us southpaws! Stuff I'd never have thought about, they have!!!

I had the hardest time learning to tie my shoes -having 2 righty parents.
My lefty sister just learned to tie them right handed. I used to smoke with either hand . I can cut with either hand-but not small detail work with my right.
I hate can openers! I stamp with either hand. I unzip all zippers and unbutton all buttons with my left hand. I don't wear jewlery on my right hand not even my watch.
I'm a south-paw in the North West! I eat and write with my left, but do most other things with my right. (My right hand is actually a bit stronger...strange!)
colleen

Count me - I'm a lefty from Minnesota. I have 4 children, 3 out of the 4 are left-handed. The one that's left-handed is a twin. I have a set of mirror identical twins - one is left handed and one is right handed.
Lefties have wonderful imaginations.

How interesting that you got one of each!
I just remembered a funny story from my childhood. I was the only lefty in my family and I desparately wanted to change that. So I started taking the crayons/pencils out of my 2-year-old sister's RIGHT hand and putting it into her LEFT. She would stare at me for a second and then put it back into her right!
I kept this up for a few weeks to no avail, so I finally gave up! I just decided that I was meant to be unique!!!
Me too! Me too! And we are very creative because of it! I also cut with scissors right handed, throw a ball right handed (?) and CROCHET right handed, because my mommy (who God Bless her is 81 years old) taught me by putting her arms around me and showing me, and she's a righty. My DH and DD are RH'd but DS is a LEFTY too so I'm not alone. Also my very cool SIL (hi RAESTAMPS) is a LEFTY.
The similarities here are frightening! I'm a lefty, throw a ball with my right hand, use scissors with my right hand and I crochet right handed -- my MIL taught me that way. My dad taught me to golf right handed but I can golf right or left handed but can only hit a ball with a bat left handed. My husband (nancystamps brother) is also a lefty but our two kids are righties! Go figure!
Another lefty here!
I used to hate getting bumped at the dinner table when I was little because I was the only lefty in the house.
And, don't get me started about those crappy 'lefty' scissors they used to give us in school. Those things wouldn't cut hot butter!!

Mememe!! For almost 50 yrs!
Parents are both right handed, my older bro is a lefty too. So I was able to follow him around! I'm SURE he loved that! lol! My daughter is lefty, son is righty.
I do lots of things ambidextriously, play baseball lefty, and can switch hit. Taught myself most crafty things by just turning it around and doing it backwards. I can even write backwards! (Can't have ppl copying your notes if your writing backwards! Hey she was a NASTY mean person.) Now if I can just learn to type backwards! j/k lol!
Oh and forget the writing paper turned in the opposite direction...mine is straight up and down. So is my handwriting. haha

I agree! I play too and it really makes a difference.
It's also funny how, over the years, I've noticed the number of things I do the "right-handed way" just because that's how I learned them. For instance, I wear my watch on my left wrist when you should wear it on your right (opposite writing hand). And I cut meat with my right hand, making it *better* than switching utensils around like righties do. *grin*

OMG soooo true! I ended up grabbing a rightie pair and cutting left handed with it anyway. Still worked better than the crappy ones. And is it just me or were the lefty ones always getting lost? So then there weren't enough anyway....
Anyways... LOL Another lefty here, and I do some things rightie too. And I sure am outnumbered here. The only one in my household that's a lefty. No wonder my husband is the only one that can teach them to tie their shoes!! LOL never thought of that ;)
I too am a lefty but do alot either or and switch without knowing it but I am bow challenged which is a pain. Yet I do knit and lots of fine needlework with no problem. I am the only lefty ever in my family and my mother thought it was the best thing in the world. and went to war with the sisters when they tried to fix my defect or as my family saw it MY GIFT(probably the only time she ? the sisters) needless to say she sorta won but I did adapt so I am as my husband says the most ambidextrous person he has ever seen. I write with my left and am very neat much better than 90% of righties that was also a biggie with Mom prove the sisters wrong so it was practice, practice and I can write prettygood with my right but I hate it it is just wrong. I love being a lefty and hope we get another one soon as I still remain the only one.Mom is very disappointed as she has 5 children,11 grandchildren, 6 great, 1 great great and numerous neices nephews and that is always one of her first ? are they a lefty
I never noticed 'til now the thumbs up is a lefty!
raising my left hand here! (= reading through all the posts, I am realizing there are so many tribulations we lefties were made to go through for being the other 10%.
I agree with the poster who hates 3-ring binders! I always had to take the paper out and then return it into the binder after writing on it. I actually use scissors with my right hand but when I use my paper trimmer, I have to turn it "upside down" (numbers are upside down anyway) so I can pull the blade down with my left hand. sometimes I use a box cutter and I always disasemble it and flip the blade so I can use it with my left hand and retract the blade with my thumb, otherwise it's useless. I also hate most serrated knives because the serrated teeth are always on the wrong side, making the knife really hard to use with your left hand.
my younger sister is also a lefty so when we go out to eat as a family, we sit beside each other so there are no bumpies. she and I are the only crafty people in our family. my mom is somewhat but she was forced to be a righty as a kid.
on the flip side, I was trying to teach a righty friend of mine how to tie a perfect ribbon bow but she couldn't get it because I was holding everything dominant left. she finally got it after many tries but couldn't translate it to dominant right. that kind of reminded me of when I was trying to learn how to use a lot of stuff and felt so clumsy because I couldn't understand how to do it.
