Yesterday I came here to find the Amazon ad so the Moderators would get a commission if I went to Amazon from here. The ad was simple to find, I clicked, and went and bought an expensive piece of equipment from Amazon.
But then last night I realized I didn't sign in here first, before I clicked on the Amazon Ad. Does it matter? Does anyone know?
I don't think you need to be signed in - the only way I can tell it worked is when it goes to amazing I see a referral code in the address. But now that it is after the fact... I don't know how you would know. Maybe Lydia can help provide an answer.

I usually forget to go to Amazon from here!! Not that I shop often during the year but around holidays it's a life saver. Need to make a mental note of stop/shop thru here.
we have five subscription lines thru amazon (coffees, dog treats) and I am a regular buyer for kindle. Then there are a LOT of other items we buy thru Amazon. I would hate to total up our yearly spending there!
However, I have never done this link thing for many reasons. One is that I worry that it compromises the security of the account. I remember reading something once on that (not here, obviously, but not sure where). Can anyone answer that?
I have other reasons for not doing this but the one I would want answered today is about security.
I use amazon a lot.. can someone tell me how I can be sure our moderstors benefit? I thought it was only at Christmas.
Thanks
It's all year - the affiliate fees we get accumulate throughout the year - we just reward them at Christmas, but we'd love for you to help us with that all year. We have hundreds of volunteers.
You can use the link on the home page to jump to Amazon - then just shop. It doesn't cost you a thing - just the time to click & some love for our mods
Ok...told hubby I was going to shop on Amazon so the mods on SCS get paid and he told me it woukd be cheaper to just send te mods the money....lol...I really like to shop!

It does not compromise security - not sure where you heard that Affiliates don't get any information about you, your account, etc. All that is between you and Amazon.
Amazon runs the largest affiliate program on the internet, and they also provide IT support to most websites you use - their content delivery network is huge - they provide cloud computing services across the globe.
While anything at all you do on the internet involves some amount of risk - malware, spyware, adware, your own computer, software and browser vulnerabilities etc. - you're probably safer with Amazon than with any other site.
I never ever thought about going to Amazon from here. I will from now on. I just became a prime member and plan on taking advantage of a lot of free shipping from them. lol I would love to support SCS through my amazon purchases.

Thank you!!!
( I don't remember life before Prime - I'm SO spoiled with that shipping! )
Okay, Lydia, I clicked on the Amazon link in your signature line, and am going to pay for my items. I think that's all I have to do from what I've read, right? I know I did it last year (I don't shop on Amazon much), but I don't remember it being that simple. We'll see...

From the Amazon site: "In most cases, you earn advertising fees for visitors that come to an Amazon site and place any qualifying items in a customer's Shopping Cart within 24 hours of their arrival at most Amazon sites."
OMG I didn't know about this - I use Prime a lot so now I'll come here first. I just bought a BS Plus as my first purchase through the link so I'm off to a good start to thank the volunteers (love you all for your service).
okay so, if I have SCS open on one tab and am shopping in the other that works right? or do you have to come here and click the thing first? ( not sure ) I only clicked that thing once and I shop at Amazon frequently so, I want to make sure I am doing it right.
No - Smile is an affiliate program benefiting those specific non-profits. To benefit us, you have to click our link and then shop.
That's a bummer you can't do both. I shop through Smile to benefit a local animal rescue group, and Amazon conveniently reminds me to start at Smile if I forget. :-|

The tab you're shopping in needs to have been opened from a link here... if that's what you're doing you're golden!
The percentage increases based on the volume of sales in a month's time - from 4% up to 8.5%.
That's a lot better than what they contribute through Amazon Smile. I also shop through Smile for an elephant rescue charity, but they only receive one half of one percent of my purchases. I shop there a lot, but probably not enough to make any difference to my charity. I mean $5 for every $1000 I spend is pretty piddling. I do have the Amazon card that gives back 3 percent of my purchases as points to buy more stuff, so maybe that is why the contribution amount is so low.
