I was curious, does everyone, Demos and non-demos, but their ribbon from SU!?
i would love to have a spool in every color of grosgrain and organdy, but.... is there a less expensive place to get the same ribbon? Would there be a color match problem?
I'm going through a ..I want it all and I want it now thing... :?
I am sure there is a place to get it cheaper....
When I have looked at other stores for this type of ribbon I have noticed that the price may be cheaper but, the amount of ribbon is less that SU!. I am a huge bargain hunter- clearence queen and I have noticed that SU! ribbon is very comparable with other stores that carry these types of ribbon. I hope this helped answer the question. I'd be curious to see other answers.
For the longest time, I bought my ribbon locally and did not order from Stampin Up. Then, I bought some gold cord and figured out that, yard for yard, it's no more expensive to buy it from SU. You're just buying larger quantities. I think it works out to something like 25 cents a yard. You have to be careful with some of the discount ribbon spools - it will look like there's a lot on there, but there's really something like 3 yards.
Not sure about the cost comparison but I have gotten the thin sheer type ribbon from walmart (I get them when the seasons are changing now they should have summer on sale and putting out the fall colors in the craft section)- have something like 15 colors probably and I get them when they go on clearance for 44 cents or less (77cent reg.). They are only 15 foot which is 3yards but you can get colors that match SU colors. I have one that looks great with t.turqoise I used just last night.
I do have to say I purchased a whole set of SU ribbon and I LOVE IT... Got it from one of the ladies here that purchased them all and then sold per yard. The only way I could have gotten all the colors. They are just beautiful.
I compares and yd for yd SU is the same price if not cheaper than craft stores. I have found this especially true since if you push up teh side of the spool of an SU ribbon spool there ribbin goes almost down to teh center, which is not the case with craft store ribbons.

I find that SU ribbons are not only a great value...but also great quality. I also figured that since I am a demo, if I buy for myself through SU, then I get the benefits in the long run through the sale, it adds to my monthly total; it adds to my rebate; it adds to my Great Rewards, etc... I think awhile back I went ahead and ordered all the ribbon that I didn't have and so I had enough to make a hostess order and then got all the benefits from that. I am glad that I now I have a great stash and all the colors. You really can't beat the value and quality you get with SU ribbons.
I have bought off brand ribbon before, but I like SU quality and quantity better. You may want to look into a swap. I do them for my customers. 10 People needed and each person gets 2.5 yards of each color. Once I did a swap I then just replace the colors I use most with whole spools. ( Not as expensive that way) If there is enough interest I might think about hosting a swap. Price is $8.54 plus shipping for narrow organdy; $17 plus shipping for wide organdy and $13.68 plus shipping for grosgrain. Interested pm or email me.

I was going to suggest a swap as well. A few of my fellow demonstrators and I are going to buy 4 each until we have them all. It's a little easier on the pocket book for me that way than a total swap of all the colors at once. I'm sure there are many people in your same situation who would love all the colors but don't want to sink all their cash into ribbons.
There is a sheet you or your demo can download at the Stampin Up site which lists them all, and you can punch the holes to thread each color though. Then, you've got all the colors at your fingertips. I'd like to do that with the larger ribbon sometime, too.

I am not a demo so I have no limit on the materials I use. My stash includes many various ribbons, threads, etc. from many years of sewing and embellishing. At the present time I am having to move the machines, etc out of the way to make room for my stamps. I have purchased 3 or 4 collections of the current fibers but not from Stampin' Up, I find I do not use large amounts so therefore prefer to have a variety.
