Burnished is a technique that was taught at the DC Regionals meeting. Basically, just take a sponge and ink it up good with a color. Now, rub it onto your cardstock in a circular motion. Repeat randomly all over the cardstock. Now, take another sponge and repeat again with another color. Let the colors overlap a bit (you might get a new color, so be sure to use colors that compliment each other, especially when combined.) Keep doing this until your cardstock is completely covered to your satisfaction. I would suggest not using more than 3 colors. Always start with the lightest color first and work up from there. You can do this on Ultrasmooth Cardstock and it looks very nice. If you do it on Glossy, it looks awesome! Hope this helps. Have fun!

This sounds like fun. Now I have to go try it.

The definition I've always used for "burnishing" is basically just rubbing -- like polishing if you want to bring out a shine, or, after gluing two pieces together, rubbing all over to get complete contact with each other to make sure the glue holds.

What Michele is describing sounds more like Direct to Paper (DTP), although since it involves rubbing, lol, I imagine it's also burnishing! I never thought of it that way...
