Default Brushed Silver Card Stock - Anywhere else cheaper?

I have picked the card that I want to do for my Christmas card this year, but it is 5.5 x 5.5 and I want the base to be the brushed silver card stock, BUT...

I just looked in the catalog and saw that it is 6.95 for ten sheets and it only comes in 8.5 x 11, so it would cost me a fortune to make it. I need at least 50 cards so that would be $35 just for the base, not including all the layers, ink pads, embossing powder, etc.

Anybody know of any other source for it?

Thanks so much!!

I bought some at my local stamp store for either $.35 or $.40 each, but it was still just 8 1/2 x 11. Sorry, that's not much help.

Thank you Jennifer, that would save me half if my local store has it, plus I have a coupon so that might be the way for me to go.

I know a lot of people have posted websites for ribbon and other embellishments so if anybody knows of a place online for card stock I would love to compare prices.

Thanks again!

You can try Marco's Paper. They have a huge selection and reasonable prices. Their web site is http://marcospaper.com/ I order white and cream c/s from them. Never looked to see if they have silver, but take a look.

I bought some of this from SCS member spammie, which she had ordered from a discounted CS source. I am sure if you pm her she can tell you where she got it! I do think she had to buy 100 sheets, though, that is why she sold some to me! Good luck!

I didn't look to see where you are from, but do you have a PaperZone near you? They have a brushed silver cardstock, just like SU, in a package of 50 for $17.99. Through Sunday, they are having a sale. They have a coupon for 40% off any one item. That would probably cover the extra for shipping. I just went there today to see if they had it, and they do. I haven't checked their website yet, but I'm sure it's there, too. Let me know if you want the coupon code.

I just went to paperzone.com and they do have this paper, 50 sheets per pack. The total, after the coupon, and with shipping, came out to less than $17. Again, let me know if you want the coupon code. Good luck.

Here's a total sidestep approach, but have you considered putting Silver PearlX in a hairspray bottle and spraying grey paper. When I did this with going gray, it look remarkably like the brushed silver, although not quite the same texture.

Grey is much, much cheaper. You use the cheap $1 hairspray you find in the samples section and add 1/2 t pearl X to the bottle and shake often. Looks great and is really cheap.

I have ordered the Stardream metallic paper from paperzone in the sampler pack and ohhhh my gosh, it is wonderful paper..... so pretty, it is hard to decide what color to get....
is there any way you can change your card so one sheet would make two cards,, i think you are going to run into postage problems too with the bigger size, it is just a a thought....

Another good point. Square cards are extra postage, I forget whether it's .10 or .11 now?

I bought some brushed/metallic copper from Marco's Paper. Good quality & good price (forget # of sheets/$$) but it is not a heavy c/s weight so it wouldn't be good as the actual card but is perfect for layering on a the actual card base. Marco's Papers are excellent quality & they have a good selection but can be pricey depending on what you get.

The surcharge for odd sized items to mail is .12 cents.

Ooh, I hadn't taken the odd size surcharge into account, thanks for the heads up.

Also, thanks for all of the ideas and suggestions. This board is such a great resource.

The Stardream silver metallic is also available from California Paper Goods. I've ordered several times from them and their papers are beautiful. Excellent customer service.

http://www.papergoods.com/ZSilverMica.shtml

10 sheets for $3.28. They also sell several pre-cut sizes, card scored for folding, and matching envelopes.

This is a great idea! I'm going to try it and see if I want to use this technique on my wedding invitations.

Just an FYI... you can get Pearl Ex at a great price from fusionbeads.com and there is NO SHIPPING charge!

At cutcardstock.com they have Curious Metallic Galvanized which is a perfect match for Brushed Silver. Also, Cyrogen is perfect for Shimmery White and Gold Leaf for Brushed Gold. Prices start at $9.95 for 25 sheets and get cheaper in larger quantities. They run sales and specials occasionally.

You could also buy the SU Platinum Shimmer paint ($5.95) and a small spray mister and mix 6-7 drops with some rubbing alcohol and spray the Basic Gray cardstock ($6.95 for 24 sheets)....you'll get a nice shimmery look (technique is called Shimmer Mist). I agree also with trying to change the size so you don't have to pay extra postage....but I'm cheap like that especially if it's for 50+ cards.

Lol, I needed this look for the background on some wedding invites I made and I just inked the paper with the stardust silver ink pad. I couldn't find any and couldn't justify the online prices I found.
