Wow!

I was trying to leave comments each week also. If I open a card to see it - I generally try to leave a comment.
I got out of that for sometime now but will try to continue it again. Thanks for the reminder.
Holy Moly is right, Batman! I had no idea how many of what for a given day or month. Very interesting!
And to any who said they quit posting due to lack of comments, PLEASE don't stop. I know this had been said before, but it's true. It's not a reflection of your art; it's a matter of time, quantity and visibility.
Yes, the challenges get more comments. You might want to consider joining some.
Yes, the more visible you are, the more comments you tend to get. You may want to consider joining in on some of the forum posts (like this one) and also the more you comment on others' work, the more visible you become to them. I'm funny that way, if someone leaves me a comment, I will go visit their gallery and comment. I've found so many galleries this way that I missed before. It makes me sadder to see NO GALLERY than it does to see a gallery w/ few comments.
Do it because you love it. In the beginning, my stuff had very few comments and some even had no comments for the longest time. Some were favorited way more than commented on.
I wish there was a way to make sure everyone's cards had comments and favorites. But there just isn't. The best you can do is all you can do.

Wow!
I've been a member here for years. ;) My uploads don't get get anywhere the comments they did way back when I first became a member.
At risk of sounding like a broken record:
A lack of comments on anything one happens to upload cannot be interpreted as a lack of appreciation or interest, rejection, or that the creation is unappealing.
With stats like this, the ratio of comments to image signifies to me that an incredible amount of time is being devoted to commenting in the gallery by community members.
It is phenomenal!
I happen to suck at math, but, even I can tell from those figures that what some claim to be a lack of comments, is anything but; it's simply spread out over an incredibly high volume of uploads. ;)

I feel there are some cards that have ZERO comments but at least 50 people who marked it as a favorite.
My way is this...........If I can take the time to mark it as a favorite, then I should and DO leave a comment.
I have a few cards that have 1 comment but lots favorited it.
Oh well...I wish everyone here....that if you can take the time to click favorite, at least take the time to leave a short comment.
I googled it - "Don't take yourself too seriously" apparently. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong here - please!)
but the story behind the rule is equally as important....imho!
the way it originated was there was an organization that formed, and in doing so, they kept adding rules and regulations on what new members had to do/be/act like in order to belong to this new organization. they got up to 61 rules, and no one was able to keep them all. this created a lot of tension and discord among the members, and one of the founders of the organization, who saw that it was getting out of control, came up with "rule 62" which is "don't take yourself so damn seriously"
I think that's amazing that there is so much more favouriting than commenting! But that's me - if I favourite more than 3 uploads a week it's a lot for me, LOL.

Wow!
Dang, no wonder y'all got 6 servers. WOW. I sure would hate to see the Admin panel y'all got going on. Talk about being overwhelmed. Great stats though. It's awesome!
Hello....this is topic is something that comes up all the time around here. Yet, lack of commenting goes on. Like Julie said, my cards don't get near the number of comments that they use to. It was smaller back then. Look at those numbers that Jenn posted...I guess we are lucky if one person notices our thumbnail pics at all! LOL!
Over the years, and still now, it seems to be those most active in the forums and challenges that get the most comments. Not necessarily based on card attractiveness.
That said, I agree that it is nice to receive comments. I try to to leave a comment on any card that I click to see larger. And certainly if I favorite it I leave a comment.
My $0.02 - there is no doubt that reading comments on your card make you feel good but not having them on your cards shouldn't de-motivate you from uploading to your gallery.
Even if I have zero comment cards, I feel happy to see that so many people have viewed them. There are zillions of cards being uploaded every day so I don't expect that each and every card of mine would have at least one comment.
Is there a way you can be informed that someone has left a comment on your card? And how do you find out which cards of yours have been favorited? See I told you these are not the only reaons I upload cards to my gallery

On the first page of "Upload my card", at the bottom of all the information, under extra options, you can choose from the dropdown menu to notified by email if a user replies.
When you open a card in your gallery, under your description, but above the additional information, it has the date it was uploaded, the number of views, and the number of favorites.
I love seeing all the cards in the gallery and check it almost every day! Thank you to everyone who takes the time to upload their work - especially after taking the time to create it! I, too, will do a better job at leaving comments.
I do have a question.....how do I find an individual's specific gallery or blog? Even though I look for inspiration frequently, I don't have very advanced skills in using SCS - lol!
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me!

A lot of people have links to their gallery and/or their blogs as part of their signature. You can just click on these.
If they don't, put your mouse over their name (if you're reading a post like this or a comment in your gallery), left click on their name and a drop down box will appear. You can then view their profile, visit their gallery, their homepage (if any, usually a blog) and so forth.
If you're in the main gallery, click on the Member Galleries and an alpha listing of all the galleries will appear. You can go to the alpha letter you want, or you can click on the Search feature (on the left sidebar) and type in the name you're looking for.
I have a teensy gallery - the only reason I started to use it was to enter some challenges, which were a ton of fun! I don't have a blog or anything like that, and have only ever uploaded 3 cards. I didn't expect or look for comments, and was in fact shocked that anyone even found their way to my modest cards! So for me, not having comments (& I did have a couple of lovely comments) is not an issue at all. It's just fun to make a card for someone and have a chance to win something.
Good morning, Julie!
Thank you so much for the information/instructions. I appreciate it. I'm checking out SCS before work as usual.
Thanks again!
Loretia
....Is there a way you can be informed that someone has left a comment on your card?
There is also a clickable option Receive Email Updates at the bottom of the information box for each card in your gallery. Just click that, and you'll automatically receive email updates when someone comments.

If you happen to know the individual's SCS "userid", you can also just type this text below into your web browser and get directly to their gallery here: (I used my SCS userid as an example)

My fan club membership lapsed for a short time, and while I was not a member, I realised that for the non-fan-club people who upload, their cards have first appearances on pages (assuming 96 cards per page) 4 to 7 (not on page 1) of the "most recent uploads" (because of the time passed between initial upload and moderator's approval). By then, a lot fewer people (and potential commenters) see them, and that is my theory on why there are so many lovely cards with no comments.
I like it when my cards are favorited, and I don't mind at all if the favoriter doesn't comment.
My thoughts and feelings are pretty much the same as yours on the issue.
Ditto! I make cards and stuff because I like to do it. It feeds my creative mind...if I did it because I wanted recognition for each button I place and every stroke of my Copic marker, I'd be well discouraged since most of mine don't get comments. Doesn't bother me a bit!
If they like it and want to comment, fine! If they like it and don't want to comment, fine, too! If they HATE it and comment how much they hate it, then it would really hurt my feelings. hehe
