Brain hiccup--what are those junk credit cards good for?
I know that I read somewhere in this forum that the junk (phony) credit cards that you get in the mail are REALLY good for something to do with stamping. I remember thinking that I hadn't received one in awhile, but as soon as I did I would set it aside. My problem is, now that I have one, I can't remember why I needed it! LOL
Was it something to do with embossing?
Please help this feeble brain--give me a clue about why I need it.
They are most excellent disposable scrapers (to use to level off embossing paste when used with a brass stencil)
They also work quite well when gluing - if you squirt a puddle of glue on the back of whatever you're gluing, those fake credit cards work really well to spread it around thinly and evenly.
There's probably more than one answer, but I remember seeing a tip about using one to distribut the ink when re-inking a stamp pad. I saved an expired credit card for this purpose, but usually end up using a piece of cardstock instead because I can toss the inky mess instead of having to clean it.
Wow! Love all those suggestions. I'm afraid in Montana we need something more durable than a phony credit card to scrape the frost off our windshields, tho...they are already predicting snow for tomorrow!
I think it was the Cosmo Cricket website where I saw a tutorial for one of their blackboard albums and they used it to put paint or ink onto one of the chipboard pieces ~ sort of like spackling, I guess! I'm going to hang onto a couple when they come, too... which they invariably will!
My daughter received a cute graduation card made with the credit card and a saying something to the effect of you deserve a lot of credit. In addition to saying congratulations, you could use them for thank you or appreciation cards.
I have many of them & throw them away when they get icky. One of the uses is with the shaving cream technique. It swirls color around in the shaving cream.

I use them to add gesso to my projects. Gesso is a canvas sealer and if you use the phone card (or hotel room key) to apply it and just move it around you can get interesting texture on your projects. I don't smooth it out - I scoot it around!

So many uses for what I used to think of as junk! I like the idea of using them to swirl and scoot. They are also intriguing for thank you or appreciation cards, tho' my guess is that the recipient might be very disappointed to find out it is just a phony card ;)
I'll have to try edge distressing with it. I usually use my scissors, but sometimes worry that I am going to poke myself and bleed all over the card....
Any reason they couldn't be used on a layout? For example a graduation layout using the same "you deserve a lot of credit" theme as the previous person mentioned.

For for all the suggested uses. Keep 'em coming!
That's for sure!
Great ideas! I'll keep those fake credit cards next time!
Cover them with DP and decorate. Make your own gift or coupon card by putting what you want it to be for on the front, like a back rub, doing a chore for someone, etc. I also use the gift cards that have already been used up, like Wal-Mart, Fazoli's, etc. Once it is empty, it goes in the stash for altering!
If you don't get credit cards in the mail, a friend of mine asks at Target to get the used gift cards - her kids collect them.

That's exactly what I always use them for.. to make my own gift certificates. But wow..I'm getting a lot of excellent tips
Wow! Thanks for all the reminders and new ideas about how to use these cards. Now I know why I was so excited about the idea of having some. I felt bad about not being able to remember what to use them for, but it sounds like other people are getting some good ideas for using them too, so maybe my brain hiccup wasn't so bad afterall (at least I will keep telling myself that.)
I cut one of mine diagonally and use it as a scoop for getting the embossing paste out of the jar. I also use the edge of one for cleaning up spills of embossing powder or glitter, etc. I have covered them, punched them, added a keyring and used them for name tags on my tote bags and rolling sachel. Helps me to indentify my bags at a glance when many gather for swaps, workshops, and card club. We all seem to like the same bags from the same manufacturer's.
