Years ago, I received a note from a friend actually written on a (deflated) balloon. I'm not sure how she did it -- blew up the balloon, wrote and then deflated it? -- but it was fun and would be easy to mail. Crafting-wise, off the top of my head, you could cut (die cut if you have the shape) the card itself into a balloon shape, and then do some invitations in each of the colors. Or you could do a clean and simple invitation with four balloons stamped across a white card front (one balloon in each color) and then "You're invited" underneath. Or maybe stamp a number 1 in one of the balloons. Sorry those aren't terribly original ideas, but I'm sure whatever you make will be adorable -- and appreciated!
Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but this is what I did for my nephew's birthday. You can always change the colors as needed. One year old invite
Last year my son was invited to a party where they put the party information on a paper with confetti inside a balloon and then had it blown up with helium. I'm not sure how it was done, but my son loved getting to pop the balloon and getting sprayed with confetti to get the paper. Of course, this only works if all the invitations can be hand delivered.
Might be too bulky for invites but thought I'd share this for party decoration. I just cut lots of circles, folded them in half and then glued them together accordian style with a pipe cleaner up the middle. I used red line tape for the pip cleaner and twisted 2 together so they would stand up in the bottle better.
