Bird-ectomy? Anyone tried it yet?
I really like the French Flair BG stamp, but I am not too kicky on those birds. Has anyone tried a birdectomy on this stamp? I am thinking I could cut them out rather than having to mask them all of the time.
I bought that stamp at a workshop last night...and it was the first time I've noticed the birds. I thought Hello where did they come from. So maybe they aren't too noticeable on the card? I've looked at tons of cards using that stamp and I swear I've never seen the birds.

I've seen where stampers have 'omitted' the bird and replaced with a flower or something. I thought maybe if I was careful, I could always pop them back in if I wanted to.
I don't care for the bird either. I wonder if you could ink up the stamp without inking up the bird? I don't know how hard it would be since I don't own it yet. It definitely is on my list so I better hurry and order it.
gee, I guess I am in the minority - I like the birds!
I like them too. I love watching swallows as they swoop across my garden or a lake. They are so graceful. The ones on the stamp are exactly like that --- just flying circles around the clumsy robins and hawks.
I looked in the gallery and some gals have even added more of the little swallows. This one -- French Flair Thanks -- by SaraFrawley, especially caught my eye this week.
But, to each his own. If you don't like them just delete them -- either by masking or cut them off the stamp.
Another idea is to look for the Rhona Farrar clear stamps at Hobby Lobby....she has two sets of flourishes...you could use those instead to get a similar look! and they are 50% off right now.
Just wanted to say that the title of your post is hilarious!! I like the birds, but would love the background without them as well. Never occurred to me to go the surgical route. Great idea.

Exactly!

I haven't mounted mine yet but when I do the birds will not be on it. I really like the barn sallow look of the birds just not on the background every time I use it.
I also take sentiments off the images, even the tiny ones with the Miracle of Life and they come in so handy to mount on the ovals punches. Craft knife is a must for this task!
I love the stamp, but really had to think about getting another enormous BG stamp, as I have very limited storage space. I had never thought of a surgical removal, but think I will do that too. It's not that I dislike the birds, it's that I like them so much that I would use them in other situations as well. I bought Carte Postale, and the bird in that set looks larger than the bird on the french flair stamp, so that is a plus. Hmmm..., now I have to start looking at all of my stamps and wondering who needs a lil' nip and a tuck.... Between lurking here on the board, working to support my rubber habit ( and shoes too, but we won't go there now!) and cutting up my stash - who has time to stamp!!!
I did something similar to this on a different brand stamp. you could do how I did it- cut out with an exacto knife, cut the same part out of the index sticker, then apply that to the back of the stamp. If you want to stamp the bird in your background, just put some double stick tape on the back of your birds and put it in place like a jigsaw puzzle. sounds complicated as I write it, but its really not hard to do.
If you dont want to use the index as the backing, just put the sticky part to your hand a few times to take the tackiness down a bit so it wont permanently stick to your block. or put some tack it over and over glue on it.

Calm down, calm down - it is going to be OK.......I like birds too (after all my name is Robin) so I don't intend to chop their little heads off :-D Nobody call the SPCA please LOL
My problem with the stamp is that I wanted something 'windy' for fall leaves, snowstorms etc, but Carte Postale is not my style, and I wouldn't know what to do with it, and since the birds are the same style, I had no clue which of my stamp sets I would use with them. They just wouldn't match at all, but I still wanted to 'save the birds' just in case.
Plus I have decided from now on not to mount my BG stamps because I always use them belly up, and not having the wood will make it easier to brayer, so I thought it might be easier to perform a bird insert later.
Laura - thanks for the idea of using flourishes instead. I have some TAC ones that I haven't used yet, so I am going to dig them out and see if they will work.
Some time ago there was a very funny post by someone who had done surgery on the cowboy in the "Cowboy Kid" set. She cut his mustache off. If you can find it, it is really funny.
I think it'll be on my next order, however, the birds will be GONZO. I ezmount my stamps now, so I think i'll mount the entire stamp (birds included) on ezmount, then cut them out. That way, I can use them if I want, which I doubt I will!

I used these at a LSS class. They are great!! There are two sets to choose from. The results are fabulous. The surgical removal of the bird sounds like a lot of work, for that basic look.
I like the birds, but think it would be a good idea to cut them out and mount them separately. They sometimes make it hard to design a card because of their placement. Separated, you could use them or not, depending on the design. Thanks for the idea!
