I overheard my sons (8th and 7th grade) talking of a classmate whose birthday was the next day. She is an exchange student from Korea and will be here for 2 years. I quickly went and grabbed a b-day card I had made and told them to get some friends to sign it and give it to her. They somewhat reluctantly did so, knowing it was a nice thing to do.
The next morning my older son said, "you're famous!" Several of the girls (some cute ones, I'm sure!) were very impressed and asked my son if they could get cards for their mom's birthdays, too! I'll be sending him in with a stack, soon! Such a small thing, but I have to say it made my day.
I can understand why that would make you feel great. I know my 9 yo DD is always gushing about my cards. And I feel very grateful that she thinks I'm so talented.

That is a great story. Both of my sons are in junior high as well and it take ALOT to get them to get a card signed for a friend like that. That is so neat how young girls want a card for their mothers from you!! How special!!I'm happy for you.
My DS is 15-1/2 and he WON'T give a girl a store bought card anymore. He has some girls that he is very close with and when their birthdays roll around I either find him going through my cards looking for one to give...or he comes and asks me to make a special one. Of course the girls love him for this (just remembering the special day gives him brownie points).
At Christmas time last year he comes to me and asks me to take him shopping for a very special female friend. He bought her some sterling silver hoop earrings and he picked out a Lia Sophia necklace that I had in my "emergency" stash (I go to all these parties and stock up for just this type of occasion). Anyway, he then brings the two boxes to me and asks me to wrap them for him. He says, "Make these beautiful mom...and make sure you put one of those beautiful bows you make. You make such pretty packages with them." Ummmm....I almost had tears in my eyes...to think that a teenage boy noticed something like that.
Hooray for you! My son picked a card for a girl in his class from my stash, I did not make it, one of my best friends did. Anyway the girl told him it was the only card she saved. He told her that my friend made it but I make nice ones too! He is 14. They do pay attention sometimes!
