Default Bazzill Marshmallow cardstock - opinions

I am doing an online course and the instructor is using Bazzill Marshmallow card stock. She said it was very good for techniques that are wet, not as good as WC paper but better than regular card stock.

I looked at this card stock online and it's expensive - $12.25 for 25 sheets on Amazon and I have not seen it cheaper. They really can't intend it to be used for card bases at that price. ???

Has anyone used this card stock and what for and is it worth the money? If I could do some of my semi-wet techniques on it and save my WC paper for when I really need it, I might consider trying it.

You can get Bazzill Marshmallow by the piece at the 12 x 12 size at Frantic Stamper for .69 each. Probably this would be available at scrapbook stores/sites as well. I have water-colored on Neenah Solar White 110# which is not as great as regular watercolor paper but in my opinion equal to the results you would get from Bazzill Marshmallow. It's just a little harder to get the colors to move and blend on these card stocks as they get "sucked in" on the surface quicker...if that makes sense

I use Strathmore 90lb Mixed Media paper for alot of my wet projects. Especially if I am shaping flowers and need to color and shape them while they are damp. I have used it a bunch with my Spectrum Noir Aqua markers to watercolor, Zip brush markers and other watercolor mediums and it works really well and there isn't alot of texture. I bought mine from Amazon.

I do use a nice watercolor paper for my wet projects - it's a Fabriano Aquarelle hot press that I love.

I'm thinking the Bazzill sounds like a heavyweight version of SU Whisper White - a coated card stock, but thicker than the SU. Which is why this instructor would like it for the techniques she is doing - mostly Distress Ink Blending with some limited water misting. And I do find that I don't get as good a Distress Ink blend on my WC paper as I do on a coated paper. The coating seems to help move the ink better when you're doing sponging. So maybe it's worth a try.

I used to buy it at Joann Fabrics and an LSS (if you can still find one), so I could get it on sale. I never really considered it for wet techniques - it is just a heavier weight cardstock from their Card Shoppe line.

I have seen online descriptions mention that it is able to hold up to markers and sprays, but I assume it's only because it's heavier. There is no coated surface to it.

Nancy - thank you. Mystery solved. I already have heavyweight white card stock. No need for more. Probably better off with bristol board.

You've answered my question! !

You're welcome. I started using it when it was required for some work that I was doing, and I really did like the heavier Card Shoppe cardstock (vs. the regular Bazzill cs).

I actually checked and still have some -- it is a very good quality and even thought not coated, there's a nice surface to it. If you'd like me to send you a couple of sheets to try it out, just PM me your address .
