I have learned so much from all you on how to find my stuff! Thank you for sharing your stories.

I'm going to lay down flat on my floor, with all the lights off, and use my cell phone light to hone in on a little reflection. Course all pets have to be locked away because if I lay on the floor with the lights off, I will become a chew toy or be fought over (like prized real estate).

I don't vacuum, I sweep. And I run my hand through the filthy, disgusting broom because clear stamps always stick to the broom (or the cat) and that's how they travel all over the house. Just like cat litter...

I use a shop vac to vacuum, so the panty hose idea is very smart. Usually I open the shop vac and use my Misti magnets (purchased on Amazon) backups to pick up all metal objects in the dirt before I toss it out. I've found earrings, a ring, a die, pins, screws, etc. Those magnets are very strong. Won't find gold jewelry worth a darn though.

Thanks for all the great ideas on searching for things that walk off.

Janet1000 your post gave me an instant mental picture of me getting out my son's metal detector and going over the contents of the vacuum cleaner! This thread has been fabulous - though I'll never again view a Misti without a certain visual image popping in to my head!!

The thought that so many of you will flash images of my fanny when you use your Misti... color me Kardashian! (OMG I can't believe those people are on TV-stop watching that junk, will ya?)

It amazes me what my back end picks up in the crafting area. Its disappointing that it hasn't picked up any money though. On the other hand, it hasn't picked up any diseases either so it's all good.

OMGosh! So glad I'm not alone in the "Where the heck IZ that?!" dilemma!

A week or 10 days ago (+/-) I laid out 4 Little Letters dies to spell a word ... lining them up precisely ... got distracted away from my stampin' seat super-briefly, and POOF!!!! Down to 3 letters and the "S" is missing.

Searched floors with a roofer's magnetic "swiper-on-a-stick", emptied trash, sorted trash, DH repeated (stampy zone trash isn't nasty ... so that's good), have just done & opened everything to look for "S". If it shows up on your doorstep, would you please give it a swift kick in the seat and slap a postage stamp on it to Texas???

I googled it, trying to find a picture of it so I could get one. That just sounds too cleaver to not own. I haven't really found it yet.

What is it? Is it a couple magnets duct taped to a stick?

Forgot I saw my roofer using this all around the building after he was finished! They come in lots of sizes, including one that looks like a Swiffer. The thought of this one in my craft room tickles me:

Attaching a pic ... I don't know it's actual item name. The long strip on the horizontal bar is a strong magnet. Roofers use a larger version of this in the grass beneath your house after finishing up a roofing job. (At least, they should use it ... )

I must admit I have planned to crawl over my floor with my Big Shot magnetic platform should the need arise! But love that last "buy it for HIM" suggestion 8-)
This thread was in my mind as I moved the die I was using late last night from my bed to the floor thinking "I should put this away now but it is just one die and it's not tiny." (It wouldn't fit on my 2" x 2" currently available desk space).

I have a very strong magnetic pin dish on my sewing machine for all my pins (instead of a pincushion). I usually hover it all over just above the floor to pick up pins when I have been sewing. They just jump right onto it. I bet it would work for other stuff too.

That's what my googling pulled up also. Can't imagine running this over a large dog and 2 wild cats... I was thinking it was like a magnetic windshield wiper on a stick concept. Like a mini metal detector...

Guess we could make our own, a la MISTI Who knows where all it would lead perhaps we'd have to do a huge production run in a factory due to the demand!

I never thought about getting a tool - I just super glued one of my strong magnets to an old extending pointer I had from giving presentations. I use to find things on the floor and grabbing all the stray brads./other metal objects on my desk. It's also great when I want to pull a punch of brads out of my storage boxes.

This was a great forum that I've finally taken time to read! LOL items and I've been in each of those situations too many times, seems like. But now when I'm looking for a card I was just working on and haven't left the room and looked over all the surfaces to no avail, I (1) check the scanner, (2) I make sure I didn't put it under something heavy for the wet glue to dry, (3) I resort to going throughout the house looking to see if maybe I had after all left the room and forgotten that I had, (4) start lifting up all pieces of paper laying on all the work surfaces - and this is the mostly likely place I end up finding the missing object. I inadvertently cover it with "something". Or I'm looking for the face of the card and it's turned face down so I don't recognize it at all. If all this fails I close up the room for the night and in the morning walk in and find it in plain sight! AAAaaarrrrrggghhh! is right!!

I had forgotten this thread. Reread everyone's posts and felt better about myself all over again. It's the gift that keeps on giving!

This truly was one of my favorite threads. I laughed all the way through this (while trying to find my dies and stamps).

I reread as well and laughed all over again!

Also want to report that I bought another alphabet set to get that little...shall we just say, "I" and I have yet to find the little missing booger. I haven't thrown the packaging away yet on this new set, though, so we'll see if the theory holds up when I do.

Janet, do you have a link to the MISTI magnet on Amazon? Speaking of losing things, that one disappeared after all the Christmas re-arranging. I'm sure it's stuck to the back of something...somewhere, but I should probably just get a replacement.

I re-read a lot too. Still cracks me up. Great thread!

I am so happy I learned about that magnetic tool. I cant tell you how many times contractors have worked on my building and left screws and bits all over the sidwalk etc...we are still digging them up in the garden years later. It is very annoying and potentially dangerous as they rust...so between that and the dirt...I am not wild about the tetanus idea. I want to bring that up now when we have work done! Or just get one and do it myself. I am also going to ask my friend whose husband does roofs if he has one.

Sadly it wont pick up clear stamps.

I'm so late getting caught up with my forum reading, but I'm so glad I found this thread! I have been laughing at all these stories, and I wanted to share my own. This one is craft related, but not stamping. I was moving my laptop into another room, so I could cut out some things with my electronic die cutter. Now we are only talking 8 feet or so from one room to the other. Along the way my mouse dropped off the laptop table I was carrying. I heard the mouse drop and didn't stop to get it until I set the laptop desk down where I wanted it, figuring that the mouse would be right there on floor. I continued to set up my laptop, plugged her in and turned on my die cutter, then went to pick up my mouse. I followed the path I had just taken, but no mouse. I looked all over the floor, on the stairs that I passed, moved the file drawer beside my desk. No mouse. Now where could that little rascal have gotten off to in such a short time? I moved this and that, looked under here and there, flipped a chair over and no mouse. I called my husband to help me find it. We looked and looked. Didn't find it. I had to die cut without my mouse. Well the next day I knew I couldn't do that again and we moved everything in that tiny little room and that mouse was no where to be found.... then I had a thought. Wait. a. minute. I moved my sons boots, but surely... nah, no way. I had put the boots in the closet in my searching frenzy the night before, so I went and pulled those boots out and low and behold that mouse was hiding down inside that boot! I couldn't have dropped that mouse in the shoe if I had tried! Now when my mouse drops, I make sure I look to see where it's running away to before I take another step ... LOL! Thanks for the smiles tonight ladies!

I'm so glad this thread floated back up to the top because I wanted to report that I lost yet another microscopic clear stamp! It was a teeny tiny flower center… I have a new approach now, though: I take the clear plastic sheet off a stamp set with lots of teeny tiny images, and I say "Hello beautiful stamps and goodbye, you teeny tiny ones, it was nice knowing you."

Not sure if the Universe recognizes reverse psychology, but this is the only one I've lost so far :-)

I loved this thread. Learned lots here. And I felt normal, part of a large community of people who are constantly searching for supplies that made a prison break.

SouthernMrs, your story is too funny. This thread is hilarious and it's so nice to know we're not alone with the craft room gremlin issue.

In prepping for last weekend's VSN, I had the perfect card in my head. Stamped the sentiment, gathered the pp and dies and then went looking for the stamp for my image. An hour later after going through every one of my stamp notebooks repeatedly, I gave up. Found it a couple of days ago on the back of one of the notebooks. Those craft room gremlins are tricky!

I keep a telescoping magnet similar to these 18" Telescoping Magnet and 15 Lb. Capacity Telescoping Magnetic Pickup Tool in my craftroom because I was always dropping brads.
Love this thread. So been there.

Now I have the opposite problem. The gremlins are returning things I didn't know were missing. In cleaning my crafting area I found a little die on the floor, but I have no idea what set it comes from. It's got sizzix and some numbers stamped on it, but a google image search returned lots of images. It's a star so I'm betting I'll figure it out when I start making Christmas cards.

I love the magnetic pick up tool. I "sweep" my craftroom floor with it from time to time just to see what I didnt know I had lost. I have a magnetic sheet handy for my dies-- now why dont I work on one when I spill brads to find the right color. Sees too easy. I guess I'd rather pick theem up one by one. LOL. Great thread. Nice to know we are not alone.
