Yes, it is worth the drive. The closest one to me is about 2 hours, too, and I have no problem making the trip! They have a ton of wonderful stuff that Michaels and Hobby Lobby don't carry...Primas galore, lots of stamps, tools, great paper, alterable items, embellishments, Ultra Clean. My daughter and I have a blast there. Go, you'll be glad you did!

The Archivers in Madison, WI is a great place, lots of fun things, the people are wonderful and will answer any questions and show you techniques on the spot, lots of classes and work space. That said, I wouldn't make a 2 hour trip if it was the only thing I was going for. Are there other places that would be interesting to check out, too?
One just opened up 5 minutes from me last weekend. I really like it...but not enough to drive 2 hours to get there.Everything they have you can buy online from somewhere.I'd rather pay the postage and sit home than spend that money on gas..teehee
I think it is as a road trip to check it out. I don't know what you expect from it, but I doubt you'd be disappointed. They have a great selection, and it's a great opportunity to SEE stuff first hand that you hear a lot about. Lots of pretty colors!
I was at Archivers last night--it is about 20 minutes from my home. It is a fun store--sensory overload would best describe it! But I would probably stay home, shop online with the gas money I saved!! JMNSHO
I live in NE and we have an Archiver's nearby, but I know the Archiver's you're talking about (Jordan Creek Mall) and you'd really enjoy the rest of that mall as well - it's a gorgeous outdoor mall.
Also, there is a kick-butt stamping store in Valley Junction - it is probably cooler than Archiver's!! They have a ginormous room of embossing stuff, lots of stamps, among other scrapbooking stuff (papers, embellishments).
Do you mind swing by to pick me up before you go? I live in Los Angeles. A bit out of your way, but the closest Archeivers is about 1000 miles from us!
I think they are over-priced...also more geared to scrapbooking than stamping...I would say go if you have another reason to be in the area, but not worth making a special trip.
My girlfriend and I made the 2 hour drive and we'd say it was worth it. We only have access to Mike's, Wally World and Target, so to find different types of patterned paper, stickers, got my first primas there. I think the prices were (ok). My first time going we ended up spending an hour and a half in the store and ended up spending $65.
Mine is also about 2 hours away. I go about 3 times a year. But....I am just starting to scrapbook so I might like it better. It's o.k. but I find the same stuff elsewhere.

I agree! I went for the first time a couple of months ago, but I was pretty disappointed, I guess I am spoiled by online stores that offer just as much for a lot less. They have to pay for that overpriced mall space somehow right ;) LOL
To me, if I'm near one, I might stop in, but I would not make the trip "just" to go.
OMG! I would make a special trip myself. I love that store. They have a great dollar section too. Since moving to Oklahoma, I miss the one in Missouri.

yes..ours is Definetly geared towards scrapbooking(which I don't do)..not very many stamps at all....mostly paper and scrapbooks.....
I had never been to an Archiver's until the one opened a few miles from my house. I can tell you IF I had been to one, and didnt have one near me, I would drive to one two hours away. They are wonderful.
Ours has tons of stamps and stamp accessories, a stampers paradise.

Jen,
I work in Des Moines and can swing by Outstamping Designs or Archivers anytime I want. Archiver's is more into scrapbooking which I'm not. If you are into scrapbooking you should also go to Memory Bound in Ankeny as well. Outstamping Designs is rubber stamping and scrapbooking. It's a really nice store. You might as well hit Michael's and JoAnn's while you are in town!

It all depends on what you are interested in. I made my first trip to Memory Bound earlier this year. There is a very limited supply of rubber stamping items, lots and lots of scrapbooking items. I like to go to Archivers. It is geared more to scrapbooking, but does have some general craft items (cutters, punches, stamps). The couple times I have been there I have been able to take my time and spend a couple of hours. (I am like you - these stores are about two hours away). Outstamping Designs has more stamps and stamping supplies, an entire room of brass embossing templates (along with all kinds of card fronts to tempt you), a small clearance room and of course items geared to scrapbooking and lots of patterned paper. I am hoping to maybe be able to swing by one of the stores next weekend when I am in the area.
I love that store, and they are equally for scrapbooks and stampers, they have 6 bays of stamps, plus 2 fixtures, and a ton of cardstock. Everything in there can be used for both cards and books.
Make the drive, you will never know unless you try. You get to try everything in the store, just ask them and they will demo it for you. Also they have a ton dies you can use for free.
Also, check them out online and see what classes they will have that day.
YES!!!! But be knowledgable of what Hobby Lobby or other B&M stores sell that you can get on sell that Archiver's sells...like Basic Grey or K&Co items or some other items. I bought some BG paper and then saw it at HL.
I have to drive 90 minutes to the closest Michael's...another 30 minutes for a much better craft store is worth it.

My friends were in Houston and had stopped at Archiver's. She called me to see if I wanted something and I asked where she was...she said "I'm in Heaven."
LOL!

You are all going to be sooooo disappointed in me, because I decided not to take the trip to Archiver's today!
I just decided to go to the stamping store that I *love* in Davenport, and it's only 35 miles away. I thought that if I saved $$ on gas, then I could spend more on stamps! LOL!
Plus, they had the new Hero Arts collage stamps in stock and I wanted to check those out, along with some stamping bellas that they just got in.
Also took a trip to Michael's and got some of their newest wood mounted dollar stamps -- too cute!
When I do make the pilgrimage to Archivers, I'll be sure to let all of you know how it is!
I just went to Archivers today. They always have alot of great stuff on clearance. I got a large tin of Primas(fall colors) half off, cost me $7.50. I bought a alphabet set made by Fanci Pants, I love it. I think their prices are pretty reasonable on most stuff. There are some stuff that you can just buy at Michaels with a coupon.
