I've just finished my first VSN I'm exhausted!! I managed to each one, had a break for 2 hours tonight and have just uploaded my last card. It was a challenge to get some of the cards finished in the time but I did it. It was great fun, I tried new techniques I'd only seen on the tutorials and I learned a lot. I didn't have stamps that worked for some of the challenges so I had to improvise- it didn't matter, because people all over the country were doing the same thing. I'm stamped out though and thinks its time for a glass of wine.......Good night all
This is a threadjacking! Everybody down or the rubber stash gets it!
Ok, I'm sorry. I just couldn't resist -- and I really love that silly little woggle-eyes smiley.
ROTFL!
This site should probably have a curfew. Things get a little wacky after hours.

I made it! Dec 2006-July 2007!
My nonstamping, weight-loss blog sort of.
My only "problem" with them (for lack of a better word), is when people are encouraged to "post as many comments as you can, we're awarding prizes for whoever posts the most comments". To me, that just encourages people to mindlessly post "great card!", "cute!", or some other one or two worded comment in an effort to post as many comments as possible and win a prize, they probably don't even pay all that much attention to your entries. I would rather get one or two genuine, thoughtful comments than a million ones that people posted in a frenzy just to win a prize. In my opinion, this activity detracts from the VSN's.
I post "great card" and "cute" all the time, but I certainly don't post it mindlessly. But this is why I have backed off in leaving many comments at all...too many people think it is not genuine. And if leaving a "thoughtful" comment means I have to type a certain number of words constructed in a way that points out all the admirable qualities in the card...well then that probably wouldn't be very representative of who I really am. My comments reflect my initial thoughts or feelings about the card.
VSN has improved my stamping a lot. Sure, the samples I upload may not be my best all of the time but they help me to improve upon my future cards. I have also made some great friends in the VSN forum. Have you looked in the VSN gallery lately? If you haven't maybe you should check it out Vee. There really is some fantastic stuff there. BTW, where's YOUR gallery??? Are you not willing to open yourself up to the "honesty"?
I love you too...but I've never been called siggy line before ;)
Just kiddin! Thanks!

I have to say I have now participated in two VSN and I have enjoyed them. I am not the worlds best stamper and yes this VSN I was disappointed in a few of my cards but I got to try a few new ideas and I think I did turn out a few good cards once I got going. My upline is not near me so I have to depend on this sight here to teach me new techniques and ideas for stamping. VSN helps me do just that.
lol. Ok, so I've never seen Grey's Anatomy. Is that bad? Someone offered to loan me their season one on dvd... should I take it?? I saw this "McSteamy" character on Ellen one day. He's kinda hot. Like, a lot.
Kelly, I think SCS may have just the solution to your cardmaking problem . . . a little TLA (three letter acronym ;)) for an event that occasionally has a controversial thread started on it in General Stamping Talk....

For the first part, nothing at all wrong with saying someone's card is beautiful and leaving it at that! And for the second part, you just need Firefox and some of its tabbed-browsing love!
Thank you ladies for not taking my comment about threadjacking personally. I know it happens regularly for many different reasons, but the chit-chat kind generally just makes folks have to skip through several pages of chatter to read posts relating specifically to the topic at hand, if they even make it that far to start with. If a thread needs locking, the mods will lock it I'm sure. Until that point is reached, I myself would prefer for people to choose to stop reading a thread on their own rather than be pushed into it after being overwhelmed by chit-chat. It's all about personal choice rather than someone else choosing for us that we should stop reading. I am really not into someone else making decisions for me.
And to tie it back into the OP, I agree with many others that VSN is all about personal choice and encouraging all our wonderful stampers and papercrafters!
(now I can wait for someone to throw that post in my face two years from now, I'm sure :mrgreen
I haven't participated in them in a few months, because I've been working 12 hour shifts, had some overtime, and had a gravely ill aunt (doing fine as of now, after having a kidney removed). I just haven't had time or energy for much other than work and sleep lately. But now that my aunt is doing better, and I am off the 12 hour shifts (at least for now), I am finally getting caught up on rest and managed to stamp some stuff last week for the first time in I dunno when.
The VSN's made me try things I might never have tried, and I think all in all, they're a good experience. My only "problem" with them (for lack of a better word), is when people are encouraged to "post as many comments as you can, we're awarding prizes for whoever posts the most comments". Hey Juli, Just FYI, VSN has run this way in a while. There is no prize for the mosts post to a card. I think a lot of people post comments to cheer others along. I know it sounds corny but I think it's true. Thanks for not being negative

what? I am not knowing. Having to much fun talking instead of complaining.

I think Juli was referring to how prizes have in the past been awarded to prolific VSN commenters. I've got no strong opinion there, but can see both sides.
So, may I ask, are you all drunk? If so, I will open a bottle of wine?
No. Unfortunately this is me stone cold sober.

You are totally right! I don't have a gallery because I'm seriously lazy and I don't stamp nearly enough to justify the thousands of $$ in my stamp room, but I love looking at the galleries! I don't post comments often because of 2 things - the first being that I can't ever think of anything other to say besides "gorgeous" or "I love it!!" and the second being that I have trouble navigating to the next card without several backspaces in my browser, which I'm sure is just user error on my part.
I love looking at all of the cards in the gallery, and even if something is not to my taste (which is different than saying sub-standard KWIM?) I treasure each person's upload because she/he took the time to share it with us.
Cheers,
Just to let you know...I for one LOVE all comments...if you took the time to look and like it, I don't need a paragraph, a Lovely or Cute makes me smile just the same!!!
