Here's another site that shows how to use the prisma color pencils, stumps and gamasol.
Just thought you might like some more ideas. Actually I think this site has better explanations and examples. Now to just get that silly stuff out and actually try it!!
What an excellent tutorial! I haven't gotten into this technique, but some of the tips might help me with my watercoloring...just got the aqua pens and I need to try them out!
Hopefully this isn't a stupid question (or one that;s already been answered), but how are the Prismacolor pencils different than regular colored pencils or watercolor pencils? I have Kodak watercolor pencils, and I'm wondering if this techniqe would work with them. I suppose I could try it, but I'd kinda like to know before I go buy mineral spirits. TIA!
You cannot use watercolor pencils with the mineral spirits. It doesn't work, because the leads are different. The Prismacolors are the same as pure color pencils--they are oil based, so water won't spread them, so you cant use blender pens with them. apparently, Crayola pencils work with the mineral spirits the same way, it's just that Prismacolor had a huge sale/rebate thing thru Viking Office Products, and we all cashed in....
Glad I could help--been playing alot with my pencils...The quote is courtesy of my DH, who observed recently (rather sarcastically, I might add), that all I needed to make me happy was books, cats and stamps--I think he was feeling ignored that day. So of course, I made it up to him
Okay, this seems to go against what I've heard others say, but... I tried it the SU watercolor pencils and they did work. I tried it with crayola and didn't think it worked very well at all. I do like the look of the SU pure color pencils and the prisma color pencils the best.
Has anyone else tried watercolor pencils? Why do them seem to work for me?
