I like rubber mounted or not. I have a soft spot in my heart for wood and will always prefer wood. I'm cutting back on acrylics. They aren't going to last and I love my stamps too much and would hate to hold little memorial services for the dead stamps.... oh, but I could make a little card for them... Oh dear, I need to go back on my meds! snicker.... hmm chocolate...

I love my wood mounted and I have more SU sets than I can shake a stick at. I have been ordering from places that are unmounted rubber and have found I am okay with that and am actually looking for that option now as I do have limited space. I may at some point unmount some of my SU sets that I know I will never part with, but I can't see myself going totally unmounted. While I am liking regular unmounted rubber(with foam or without), I still have a hard time warming up to clear stamps. I do have several papertrey sets and love them, but I really have to like the set to buy it. Not sure what it is about the clear stamps, as I like the fact you can really see where you are stamping, but I do just fine with my regular rubber that is unmounted.
I am tempted by many of the clear designs, but haven't caved and bought any yet. . . I do love my wood mounted stamps and after reading this, am getting the impression that I don't want to do the mounting and unmounting.
I, too, love wood mounted stamps. Before I really got into SU! I had both wood mount and acrylic. It seemed like I was always reaching for the wood mounts. I ended up getting rid of all my acrylic stamps.

I like both. I tried unmounting a few of my SU sets and hated it. I remounted them and now they're fine. I have acrylic sets that I like just fine, but I just hated my SU unmounted...weird I know.

I don't think you're weird at all. I can't stand unmounted rubber, though clear stamps are fine for me, too.
Don't out me for this, but, I came into the stamping hobby just as acrylics started to become popular so I'd rather have the acrylics. I think they're easier to store and easier to use. I've read a lot on this thread about acrylics images not stamping crisply. I'm sure most of you have tried this techinique for conditioning them, but, if you rub the stamp with an eraser it will condition it and the image will stamp just as good as a wood mounted rubber one. I, too, found that (some) acrylics didn't give a crisp image until I found out this little hint.
I prefer wood mounted. I have tried acrylic stamps - the clearly see through ones and liked that I could easily position them. But, I just could not get a nice crisp image - even using chalk ink. Nothing I have tried has convinced me to give up on my good ole wood mounted. ;)
I have some unmounted stamps because that's how the images I wanted were available- BUT I love my wood mounted stamps the best. The thing I like the least about clear stamps on acrylic blocks is that if I need the block for another stamp I have to clean it and put it away (so I don't lose it) before using the next stamp. With wood mounted stamps I just clean it and put it aside and put all the stamps away at one time.
But my number one reason for loving wood mounted stamps: Nothing beats the feeling of a wood block in your hand.
I love my wood mounted stamps too but I must say that I have a lot of clear ones now cuz I love some of the designs. I do worry about their longevity though.

i gotta say i love them all . . . . .but i will raise my hand for the minority and say i LOVE acrylic . . . .BUT only if its GOOD acrylic. October Afternoon and Close To My Heart are my favorite clear stamps. (Those dollar clear stamps don't work worth a darn most of the time!) I haven't ever felt like I wasn't getting a clear image, (although I find no fault with those of you who feel that way!) and I just like to SEEEE where I am stamping! BUT, I have a new love of unmounted rubber, since finding Kim Hughes stamps at Cornish Heritage Farms. And I am really loving Unity Stamp Co's THIN wood mounted, and unmounted stamps. I would have to be DYING for the stamp set, to buy a regular wood mounted set. (They just take up too much room!!!) Unity's thin mounted stamps, unmounted, and clear are all good with me!!!
I LOVE WOOD MOUNTED STAMPS
A few years ago I went through an unmounted phase, but they ended up sitting in a shoe box unused, so I sold them on ebay...I don't like the clear stamps at all, I'd rather have them on wood ready to use! Of course they take up more room, but who cares :P
Thanks for the question! I have felt the same way! I love my wood mounted rubber stamps. I have some acrylics but prefer my wood mounts!
I hope that SU never feels the need to keep up with all the acrylic rage like CTMH did. Or maybe I do b/c then maybe I wouldn't buy as many stamps! LOL!
It seems there are really two parts to the OP's questions. 1.... do you like rubber stamps or clear polymer stamps 2.... do you like wood mounts or acrylic mounts
1.... I have had good stamps and bad stamps in both categories -- rubber and clear. I do not like extremely thin stamps, no matter what material they are made of.
2.... I started removing all my stamps from the wood 10 years ago, when I realized that I could line up the image without standing on my head to see where the rubber part was under the wood. I LOVE being able to see where the stamp is going -- rubber or clear.
I love my wood-mounted rubber stamps -- far more than any of my other stamps. I like that they're ready to play when I'm ready to play. I own plenty of clear stamps, and have no trouble using them/getting a nice image . . . they're just not my favorite way to stamp. In fact, I've stopped buying the clear stamps mostly because I don't use them enough to justify buying them AND I'm concerned about their longevity. I think I'll always be a wood-mounted rubber stamper at heart.
WM is my preference; but, if I love an image, and the photopolymer is high quality, I'll buy it that way if that's the only way it's available. Cuz, well, in the end, if I *must* have it, will be mine, Precioussssssssssssss!!!

hi all - another vote for rubber on wood - I too love the feel of wood - there is just something timeless and comfortable about the wood mounted stamps - I have a few acrylic and a couple blocks, but it isn't as fun or cozy or something...
Digiden - try these sites for wooden blocks - rubbercottage.com, woodforrubberstamps.com, impressrubberstamps.com - I did a dogpile search and those three came up on the first page.
No, you are not alone. While I also have a few acrylic sets; I much, much, much prefer wood stamps. I beleive they stamp better, are more durable and better quality for the long-term.

I will buy an acrylic if I am forced to for the image...but I prefer red rubber....MOUNTED on wood. Its like the others have said, the feel of the nicely sanded wood block, the weight... the grooved sides... there is nothing like that!
I keep my collection on shelves so I can enjoy the images, and treasure some that are from companies that have long since gone out of business...like my Stampassions Dianna Marcum images, Personal Stamp Exchange, and older Campbells Soup Kids, or Our Kids from Stampendous, just to name a few...
Im glad I am not alone! Its great to read all these other opinions here!!
I am preferential to acrylics because I am a freak about perfection. I really like seeing where I am stamping. I also like the limited amount of storage that is needed, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that I don't have to cut and mount them. I can use them right out the gate. However, just when I think I am over wood stamps, I see a cute set from Stampinup posted here, and that's it, gotta have it. So I have both. I only have 3 unmounted stamps all Bella stamps and I have to admit.... all of my acrylic stamps are Papertreyink.
i definately prefer rubber stamps, and like the wood mounted, however, i do like the clear blocks to see where i'm stamping... *sigh* if only wood were clear ;)

1. Never found a really good way to store the acrylic ones.
2. I was shown a good technique with fantasy film which works very well with wood mounted rubber stamps but when I tried with an acrylic stamp it melted!
3. The ones which need some sort of means to attach them to the block are just toooooo much hassle to clean up - takes away too much stamping time.
Just out of curiousity, am I the last person on the planet who likes woodmounted rubber stamps? Seriously, I have a few acrylic but I honestly don't think they stamp images as clean as my rubber ones. And I like the feel of the wood block in my hand. I feel it has more "give" and that I have more control over the stamp.
Just wondering.
Listen...I LOVE wood mounted rubberstamps...I even mount the clear and the unmounted stamps on wood!!!LOL!
