Ok everyone. My DH thinks I am the biggest wimp ever. I stamped wedding invitations, reception cards, and reply cards (125 of each) in one night. It was a lot of repetitive stamping. I woke up the next morning and my right arm and shoulder hurt sooooooooo bad!! Is it just me? Has anyone else had this happen before? I know I should exercise some more, but come on!!!! Pathetic I know, but am I the only one?? Please tell me I'm not!!!!!
You are definitley not alone!!!!!!
My wrist often gets sore from stamping and scrapbooking!!!
I bet you DH would be tired just after doing 5 cards, let alone 375!!!!!
In the fall I stamped at a church for a big shipment of cards going to Iraq...I think from 8:30-1:00. Talk about a sore right forearm and wrist! I thought I had seriously wrecked it!LOL But, I, too bow to your amazing endurance! Wow! Mona
Wimpy? Not at all. I have tendonitis and cannot take on such projects as that . . . it is not worth the severe pain from my finger tips all the way up the arm and over the shoulder and into the back shoulder blade . . .
You are justified in whining. Also, have some cheese with that "whine". Better yet, have some truffles. Yes, have truffles. And plenty of Ibuprofren.

Hmmmm....
- stamping and dry embossing vs pushups
- mousing & keyboarding vs wrist curls
- bending over to pick up dropped projects vs toe touches
-reaching for sets stored on high shelves vs good stretch
-stooping to get tabletop, paper & stamp are at eye level for perfect alignment vs squats

Two solutions I've discovered as a member of the "repeditive strain injury" club.
1) Don't do so much. (Yeah, I know.) But seriously, break it up by not finishing any one section before proceeding. (ie, don't cut all the paper at once and then stamp, do it a little at a time.)
2) play-doh, silly putty, unwrapping chocolate...spend 5 minutes out of every hour or so consciously doing something else. (And yes, the last is my favorite. ;)
And 125? I hope they're paying you well, or kissing your feet. I love my sister, but I'm not sure I love her that much!
Tell your DH that you've consulted with experts and you have Repetitive Stress Injury aka RSI. (Yes, that is an actual medical condition. Been there, done that.) The recommended treatment is relaxation and massage. So, you'll need to avoid gripping things like the vaccuum cleaner, handles for pots and pans, etc., while you recouperate. Plus, any repetitve motions are definitely a no-no so your DH will have to feed you popcorn and m&ms while he gently massages your hand, arm, neck and back during the movie he had to go rent because it wouldn't be safe for you to drive when you can't grip the steering wheel properly.
I don't have any advise, but I just wanted to ask if your name is Amy Louise? That's my name too! lol
Yes Amy, that is my name too!! How cool is that? It is nice to know there are more Amy Louise's out there. I used to hate it, but now my DD has the lovely middle name too. Alyssa Louise!! We all call her Lissa Lou Lou!
And 125? I hope they're paying you well, or kissing your feet. I love my sister, but I'm not sure I love her that much!
Kate
Actually Kate, I'm doing it for free. It is my Mom's best friend and my Mom bought all the supplies and I am doing all the work as her wedding gift. I would charge someone else out the butt after what I've been through. I'll have to post a photo (I need new lithium batteries for digital camera disk). Being nice sucks sometimes!!!!
Whoa! I can't believe you stamped all that in ONE night! My arthritis in my fingers and wrists, and tendonitis in my elbow would be killing me! Seriously, I made wedding invitations for my daughter and then my niece this summer - I spread it out over WEEKS! You deserve a medal.
Here's to hoping you post samples of your hard work!

Keri, I'm not so sure she was joking! No smiley faces, no LOLs... and it is a real condition. Do you think we can get away with it? I'm willing to try!
Amy, I would suggest that the next time he calls you a wimp, you hand him the stamps and let's see just how far he gets with it!

Sorry - forgot the italics for that part.
But the rest is serious - RSI really does happen - often it's a precursor to carpel tunnel. Since gripping (the stamps) and repetitive movement are what inflamed the muscles, you really do need to avoid both of those things so the muscles can recouperate. If you have a double sink, you put very warm water in one and very cool water in the other and you alternate soaking your hand/arm a minute or two per sink and end with the cool water. That's supposed to encourage blood flow which is supposed to help with the problem. (Or maybe it's just something doctors made up so they can spend part of their day laughing at the thought of all their patients playing in the sink!)
I posted a couple of days ago on shoulder pain!! I know exactly where you're coming from!! I found this Stamp Press but would love to find one a little more cost effective:
yeah, watch out for those RSI's. That would be why I'm not supposed to be stamping for at least another week  , notice I said *supposed* to be. My stamps are so lonely though!
I love stamping, so when I get on a roll I just keep going disconnecting from everything including me and my body...then when I stop, OUCH! But I love it anyway!

I think it's time to re-post this.
STAMPING AND EXERCISE
We all understand stamping and scrapbooking as a hobby, but what about their merits as exercise? Ladies, I believe we have inadvertently overlooked the physical benefits of stamping and scrapbooking!! For example:
CYCLING: Take out your stamps and pads, make some projects, clean the stamps, put them back, take them out, make some projects, clean them, put them back. . . .sounds like cycling to me!
SIT-UPS: Like. . .duh! You have to SIT UP to stamp!
RUNNING: Constantly running out of cardstock and adhesive!
SKIPPING: Skipping your lunch and stamping right through the day!
CRUNCHES: Trying to finish stamping the birthday card as you are running out the door to the party! = time crunch!
JOGGING: Great scrapbook pages are perfect for jogging the memory!
SWIMMING: Swimming in supplies! Woo hooooooooo!
PUSH-UPS: Push up the total sales on your workshop and get more benefits! Yipeeeee!
FAST WALKING: From your stampin' area to the front door and back again, constantly checking to see if the UPS man has come yet with your new stamps!
AEROBICS: an exercise used to increase the heart rate. I increase my heart rate by cruising through the catalogue and finding great stamp sets to order and very cool projects to make!!
LOW-IMPACT AEROBICS: Setting your budget at under $100!!! (Tricky)
STRETCHES: Stretching the amount you have to spend to get the most bang for your buck!
. . .and don't forget:
DANCING: dancing the happy dance every time new goodies arrive at your door!!!

Just remember to follow these exercises faithfully everyday and you'll have a happy, health long life (don't know if your family will, but you will)!
For real when I was at the pain Drs yesterday I was asked if I had any repetitive motions that I did and I said "Yes I rubber stamp" The gal looked at me funny and said "OOOokay" and I thought "She needs to know what she is missing in life!" LOL ...So when I go back on Monday I am bringing her a card!!!!! LOL
I just wanted to tell you all thanks for all the comments! You all have had me rolling in laughter for the past few days. I feel much better now. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!
