Actually I have both ;)
I have folders for words, organizing, etc. and the bookmark text that is displayed is be something like "great card racks" but the properties is the actual url.
To see how this works in IE
Display your favorites
Put your cursor on one of your bookmarks
Right click and select Properties to display the properties window
Select the Web Document Tab
The actual name of the url will be displayed
When you rename you are just changing what is displayed in your list of favorites. HTH
If you right click on the name that is displayed in your favorites, select properties
