Default Adhesive for small pieces

So how does everyone adhere small items to a page or card? I saw in the alpha-bits thread the suggestion of the Xyron - how does that work? I have ordered that set and also have the problem with sizzix cut letters. I haven't really looked hard to find a solution, I have just used the CM mini tape runner to place one little square at a time along my letters. It is very tedious . I ordered the SU! 2 way glue pen and hope that will help. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a small Xyron..the X one. you run it thru the little slot, and pull the tape out the other end...and it makes it a sticker...puts adhesive on the back. I have a Quickutz and this Xyron X is GREAT!!!!!

the 'X' xyron is a godsend when it comes to little bits and letters from sizzix and stuff. Works great for punchies, and anything that is small enough to fit into it (about 1" wide).

Thanks. That is really helpful. I went and checked out the Xyron X online and it looks like it could make my life a lot easier.

I was wondering if you use the permanent or repositionable adhesive.

The mini glue dots work pretty well. Still rather tedious if you are doing many at the same time but not too bad for the onesie-twosies.

I really need to look into the Xyron X, thanks for the thread and the replies.

I use the permanent one. I think the temporary adhesive would work like the sticky part of PostIts? I love my little Xyron!!!!

Whenever I scrapbook and use lots of letters, I use my 2-way glue pen and just dot the page where I want the letters to go, then I stick the letters on the glue dots. It's usually easier than gluing the backs of the letters themselves. HTH!

Are you ladies talking about the Xyron 250? I just got that one @ Mike's
today with the 40% coupon, but haven't played with it yet. It almost
sounds like you're talking about a smaller one. Thanks in advance for
any replies!

The "X" is 1.5 inches wide. The 250 is 2.5 inches wide for bigger die cuts and the 500 is 5 inches wide for things as big as a picture if you cared to use it for that purpose. Frankly I wouldn't bother with QK alphas or anything else small if I didn't have my "X". You can get one at WM for under $6 and the refills are cheap there, too. You can also get them with 40% off M coupons a lot and they go on sale there for 40% off quite regularly. It's a definite must have!

Ericsmom,
Would you recommend that I exchange the one I just got, for the smaller
one? Or keep it and just keep an eye out for the smaller one, too? I have
a storage issue, as most of us do, and I'd like to have the one that I would
find the most useful. Thanks again, in advance!

Great, I'm off to Wal-mart to get one today--I ordered the small alphabet set too and was wondering how I was going to work with all those small pieces, thanks, Donna.

Happy Heart,
How do you put your e-mail address so that it appears with your posts and does it appear with all your posts? Thanks, D.

She has the link to her SCS gallery as part of her signature. You can do this by going to your profile -- not with the button under each of your posts, but in the links across the top of the page (under the gold title bar). You also have the option not to include your sig in your posts by unchecking the box that says "attach signature", located under the window where you type your posts.

I would personally take it back and get the 'X' one. There are a two punches that I have that wont fit into the 'X' xyron. They are both quite intricate, but I survive just fine using the Zig 2-way glue pen. Plus, the refills for the 'X' are cheaper then for the 250. JMHO. But take a serious look at what you would use it with. If 80% or more of what you would use it for would fit into the smaller xyron, then you will probably be just fine with it. If alot of your stuff is over 1.5", then keeping the 250 would be a good idea.

Good luck!

I usually use hermafix. This way, if I run over the edge, I can 'rub' the excess right off.

I went to Michaels today and bought the Xyron X with a 40% off coupon (only $6). I haven't tried it out yet but was wondering do most people punch or cut first and then run it through or run a strip of paper through to punch or cut?

Wish I had time to play with all of this tonight! Thanks for all of the great advice,
Dana

If it's small , I punch/cut first because sometimes I can get more on the strip that way (side by side).

What is hermafix, never heard of it, and where do you get it? It must come in a bottle? Thanks, Donna

I bought the Alphabits set and the 1/4" square punch. I was hoping that I'd be able to run the stamped card stock (cut into strips, of course) through my larger Xyron machine, but the adhesive REALLY gunked up that little punch. I thought I had ruined it, but I just kept punching through aluminum foil until it "got normal" again. Since then, I've just been using 2-way glue. I hold the tiny punched letter with tweezers, apply the glue, and then use the tweezers to position the letters where I want them. I have the "X" Xyron, but it's never occurred to me to run those tiny punched letters through it. Duh! I'll have to try that. It seems that it would really speed up the process!

I have the "X" one and I often wish it were bigger. It is very narrow. I use my most often to attach vellum. You won't see anything thru the back like you do with the monadhesive. They are wonderful for small things too.
