I think TAC has a block close to the size you are seeking. Probably other places as well. Have you googled for acrylic blocks? Can't say that I have, but maybe it's worth a try.

I have a brand new one from Prairie Stamper -- these are wonderful blocks. I am asking $7 plus shipping for it.
If you are interested, please let me know.

TAC and Cornisheritage farms both have them. I love Prairie Stamper too.. you get those through www.smartrubber.com now, she sold the block business to them

Some people don't use a block at all for the backgrounds, just ink and lay the paper on it!

Good luck!

I was going to say that I don't use a block for my bgs. I can't ever get them straight that way. I lay mine on the table, ink, put the paper over, and brayer or rub over it. Works every time.

I was thinking of sacrificing one of my SU! backgounds wood blocks... adding tack 'n' peel and seeing how that worked... aren't the backgrounds actually slightly bigger than 4" across?

That's pretty much what I do. I did, however, stick a piece of heavy cardboard on the sticky side to give the rubber a little more support.

Mine are all on ez cling, so they have the padding. But I've also heard that a squishy mouse pad works just as well. There are so many ways to achieve results in this craft. It's why I love it so much!

SU background stamps will fit. CHF sells their own line of background stamps which are the same size as SU's, and this acrylic handle fits them.

Yes, I have this one and my SU bg stamps fit it perfectly! There is extra room around the stamp even

Here is paisley on TAC (left) and CHF (right) blocks. I like the one from CHF, it's thicker....

Just use the back of an SU background stamps. Unmounted stamps with cling vinyl stick great to the sticker side of any SU block.
Hugs,

I was just going to post that same thing... If you NEED to have it on a block, just use one from SU that has the sticker label on it and use that side.

I was at a rubber stamp store in Peoria, IL that had acrylic blocks that were 6 x 6 and bigger. So somebody must make them. I bought a 12 x 2 inch one there for $4 which I though was a steel...esp if I unmount my wheels!

I was going to post this too, but the two of you beat me to it! It works great for me, I get all my backgrounder stamps mounted on cling foam now and just stick them on the back of my SU background stamps. I do use the stamp with stamp side up, then cardstock, then scrap paper.

Since I do the "BG's flat on the table and put the paper on top" thing, I only needed something flat to put the rubber on. I went to the glass store and asked for a piece of 1/4 inch plexiglass that was 5 x 6 inches big.

I don't like using the wood...I find that it has a slight warp over time, in fact, some of my blocks are cracked. The plexiglass works great.

I have the background size block from both TAC and CHF. I prefer the TAC one because the CHF one is too heavy for me!

However, since I was taught to lay it on the table, put the card on the top and then put a scrap over it and press, I don't use either anymore.

Check out your local glass (for windows) store. I got all my acrylic cut to size there and it was really inexpensive. The blocks may need to be sanded a bit on the sides and they are not as "pretty" as the ones you buy in the craft stores BUT they do the job just as well. I think I paid about $8.00 and I got 4 4x4" pieces, 6 2x3" pieces, and one 4x6" piece. I'd rather spend the money on the stamps than the blocks, wouldn't you?

Check your local awards stores too, they usually have all sizes of acrylic pieces. Sometimes they'll let you have them free or cheap too if they have a mark or something. If they laser engrave, they can mark grid lines on it for you too...
