ok so im joining the Stampin Up family
now what do i actually need to have for when i do stamp a stacks or workshops
i know i really need the grid paper but what else?
thanks for all the help!!
Really everything you need to get started is in your starter kit. Once you get up and running you can add to your collection. The grid paper is nice to have, but not really an immediate need (in my opinion anyway) Best of luck to you in your new business.
I agree that the Grid Paper is nice to have, but not a necessity. If you want to do a Stamp-A-Stack, you may need more paper than for your first few workshops, depending on how many people you would have attending.
For my initial workshops, I looked at what came in my kit and went from there. Then for my larger events, I decided on the projects first (trying to utilizing what I had, again) and ordered accordingly. For instance, I have two scrapbooking hostess clubs. I need lots of 12 x 12 cardstock, so I started buying it in individual color packs based on the seasons - I knew I would use bright colors for summer projects, earth elements for fall, etc.

And make sure you join the demo side of the forums, you will find a TON of info on this very question!!!!!!
And welcome and congrats on signing up, you'll have so much fun!
You really can get started with what comes in your demo kit. BUT remember that your first workshop (or demo order, whichever you chose to do) will earn you 30% instead of the regular 20% (if a demo order then a 30% discount instead of 20%) if placed within a certain time frame, which I can't remember right now, can anyone help me out here.....
SOOOO, if there are some things you've really been wanting it may be a good time to get them with the 30% off. That being said, I would probably wait until June 1 (if that's within the extra percentage time frame) to see the last chance list and what stamps will and will not be carried over. That way you don't "waste money" on a set that will retire. Make sense????
I will take a moment to note some of my "must haves" that I really like having or wish I could have gotten sooner! Here goes:
Stamp-a-majig
Grid paper (although plain old copy paper or scratch paper works just fine as well)
Ribbon (I love using it on cards)
Ribbon keeper - very good for organization
Dimensionals - one little thing can add so much to a card!
Good luck! And get over on that demo forum, you'll learn so much reading old threads there!

Thanks!!! I couldn't remember....so maybe you should wait until pre order on June 1...see what is going to retire and go from there and you could also get the extra discount on the pre-order stuff.
On June 1 SU will post the retiring stamp set list (the "last chance list") AND they will post a file of NEW items for pre-order that will be in the new catalog that will go live on July 1. SOOOOO June 1 is exciting...I took it off work so I can stay up until 2 am or whatever time everything should go live, lol. How pathetic am I????????
Another thing you might think about using your first order to do is buy duplicates of things you'll want multiples of for a class or workshop. For example, classes and workshops run much more smoothly if people don't have to wait too long for basic tools (bone folders, SNAIL or other adhesive, paper snips, etc.) so you might want to have enough of those to limit the amount of sharing people have to do. If you're going to be using clear-mount stamps, you might want extras of a couple of the most commonly used sizes of blocks. Make sure you have inks and embellishments that match or coordinate well with the papers you're using. Have fun, and best of luck as you build your customer base!

I don't know if it okay with SU, but my demo has us bring our own adhesive...saves her money and we all gladly do this. We also bring our own scissors, bone folders, etc. Other demos in my area do the same thing.
Also, I never thought enough paper comes with the demo kit....

I encourage people to bring their own adhesive as well. Everyone has a favorite and it might not be snail....BUT newbies often don't have any or sometimes people forget it so I have some on hand to use.
In the grand scheme of things, I don't think SU is too concerned with adhesives...other stuff maybe:-) BUT adhesive is such a personal preference!!!!
