Who else is going to follow along with Tim Holtz 12 Tags of Christmas this year?
I've been looking forward to it all year, and this year I'm actually going to try to make some of them! I'm even going to splurge one (or two) days and get what I need to fully make a tag. Hopefully I'll have alot already!
Sure do wish the supply lists could be posted early - but I'm excited!
I'm going to be following as usual, but I've never actually made one of the tags. I think he is a great technique person and I watch him because I always learn something. I have used his style and techniques. I don't make a lot of fancy tags though. I'm pretty much done with my Christmas stuff and just want the eye candy.
I'll be following along. The first year he did them, I made one. It turned out to be so nice that I didn't want to give it away. So I made another one to keep. If I didn't have a supply, I substituted what I had on hand. It worked just fine.
awesome preview he has going, did he hire Francis Ford Coppola?
No kidding right? LOL. I wonder if the tags will be videos this time - I don't think he's done that in the past. I've been enjoying going back through tags from previous years.
I'm glad I splurged and bought his birdcage die a few weeks ago - I saw it in the preview.
I'll definitely be watching. I haven't done them but do get inspired to try the things he shows us. Tim Holtz is a genius :-) I've been fortunate to take one of his classes at my LSS and he's such a nice guy.

I really want to do this but I have a question or two. First of all how do you prepare for this? Do you follow along with his video each day?
Also, what do some of you do with the tags once they are made? I would love some ideas.
I had thought about doing these this year even if I don't have the same stuff he uses. I love getting ideas from what he does. Always gives me ideas on what to do with stuff I already have.
I plan to put them in a frame and hang them up. I've seen a lot of tags that have been made and framed--like gifts or something. I always thought that would be a unique gift.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do to prepare - unless Tim actually puts out a shopping list of some sort beforehand (which I haven't seen in previous years). As long as you have some of the basic stuff, you will probably be ready. Things to find in your craft room might be:
tags - I don't have "Tim's" tags - just some large manilla tags I found at Hobby Lobby
stickles
distress inkpads
sponges/Tim's blender tool doo-hickey
alcohol inks and felt applicator tool doo-hickey
grungepaper - he uses this for those awesome roses
paint dabbers
distress crackle paint (LOVE the Rock Candy)
permanent black ink such as stazon or archival ink
scissors
ribbon, brads, charms, various embellishments
stamps - don't worry if you don't have Tim's stamps - just find other Christmassy stamps you like
These are just things off the top of my head. He may have new stuff that he will surprise us with, or he may use a whole bunch of one item and never bring out the stickles. We'll just have to wait and see.... :-) Should be a fun ride!

Did you see the cut n' dry felt gem of an idea that he did today?!! Wow, what a timesaver! If you're not following this, you're missing out IMHO. What beautiful tags. This has sure jump started my mojo! Can't wait to see the tags and techniques each day.
Thanks so much to the OP, Aimee, for starting this thread...I wouldn't have known otherwise. Merry Christmas!
I don't know how many of these I'll be able to do because my husband and I are going on our Anniversary Trip next week (25 years--they thought it wouldn't last), but I'm going to keep up as well as I can. I may do some of them late.
I'm glad there's a post about this!

I've used baby wipes when I didn't have cut n' dry felt, and it works great (and way cheaper). Just put something plastic-y underneath because the ink will bleed through.

Ellen Hutson has a good selection of Tim Holtz supplies ready to order. Be warned, though, that she has already sold out of several things. After Tim's first tag went live, the rickety house and the picket fence dies sold out lickety split.
Click on the "12 Tags of Christmas" link on the left to see all the supplies she has for Tim's tags. She is also doing her own "Feminine Tags of Christmas" versions on her blog here - such a wonderful alternative to the masculine looks of Tim's tags.
I hope this helps someone. I don't work for Ellen and I'm not affiliated with her in any way. Just a very happy customer of hers for a long time now. :-)
Baby wipes instead of cut and dry felt? Do you need a thick pile of them? Are they still wet or do they need to dry out? do tell, I can't find the cut and dry felt here at all in my city.
Wow Vic!! I'm very impressed with your determination to stay on course!! Very nicely done!! I did make a Christmas card today, but I don't know how to scan it!!
I so want to do that cut 'n dry felt method. I don't know where to purchase cut 'n dry felt. I need to get reinkers because I have none.
I have tons of tags that I purchased from Michaels and Hobby Lobby. I also make my own with my cricut.
The first two tags are really cool. I'm such a Tim fan.
I saw that product in Aaron Brothers art store. If you live near one you might want to check them out. They have a new selection of Ranger/Tim Holtz stuff. Their website has a 50% off coupon on any reg. price item thru Dec. 4th. Aaron Brothers
