$15 for Shipping??

I was going to order 3 Cuttlebug folders from an online U.S. company. (I don't want to mention any names, because the purpose of this post isn't to trash the company.) When I got to the shipping section, my mouth dropped open when I saw the options. The cheapest way to ship was "Parcel Post," and it was $15! When I bought my Cricut, if I hadn't received free shipping, it would have been $17 to ship it. I just can't understand how 3 little Cuttlebug folders could cost almost as much to ship as a large Cricut Expression machine. That is absolutely outrageous!! It's probably the way that company makes up for the free shipping they offer for larger purchases.

It might have been a blessing in disguise, though, because I ordered the Christmas folders from HSN yesterday.

It's good to know I'm not the only one who thought that was outrageous. BTW, with HSN I used my 15% off coupon, AND got 1/2-price shipping for the second item. (I ordered 2 sets: one for me and one for my Mom. )

I completely relate. I've wanted to order from Sizzix and the starting cost for shipping is $15 to me and I have a US address! (I don't live in the US though.) Needless to say, I've only ordered once from them, any future orders will have to be sent to my family then mailed to us here--even that is cheaper. With flat rate shipping and priority rates, I don't know why they can't accomodate those of us who don't have access to UPS.

oh well, somebody probably wants to make money on shipping... there are plenty of other online companies around with very reasonable/sometimes free shipping... they'll wake up when they lose their customers just for this reason.
Some companies are not interested in small orders so they exagerate the shipping on small orders to discourage people...maybe that was one of them...

I don't do much online shopping, and I have decided against ordering from a couple of places because I thought their shipping was too high (and in one case, like you, all I wanted was a Cuttlebug folder!). I've found a couple of smaller, owner-operated online shops that have more reasonable shipping prices and ship very quickly. They'll get my business.

I work for a company that has an online store. For some companies {such as the one that I work for} it's hard to get an accurate shipping cost calculated. We try to charge as close to the actual cost as possible. If we overcharge by quite a bit, we'll normally include a gift or even refund some of the extra cost. I'm like you all, I try to find the best deal possible.....MOST companies don't purposely try to overcharge on shipping...however, there are the rare few.

I would NEVER pay that either. The actual shipping can only be a few dollars on CB folders. There is no reason for that kind of shipping and I'd say FORGET IT!!!

Wow! I hate to find that at the end of my order. I do the same thing as most of you would...end the order right there. Shipping is way out of hand on some of these little items.

This has happened to me many times, and it burns me up! If it's an online store I like I will email them to let them know why I will not be purchasing from them. Quite a few times I have gotten a reply saying that they were sorry and could adjust my shipping, or use another delivery method easier on my wallet. We have to let these stores know why we're not shopping with them. Customer feedback is the only way things will change, so send that email.

Good point. I should e-mail them and see why they charge so much for something that shouldn't cost $5. My first experience was with trying to order their Scrap Pink kit that was just $6 and they wanted to charge me the $15. Hubby ordered it from the E-bay store and thought he had it set up to mail to him parents where the shipping was going to cost just $3.95. Surprise, surprise when it showed up here for that same cost! (Guessing they must have gone off the paypal address, but really makes you wonder why they couldn't just charge that to begin with.????)

I hate when that happens. I have cancelled many sales because the cost of shipping does not justufy the purchase price of the item. I like the idea of emailing the company and telling them why I cancelled the order.

If I place an internet order, I make sure I order enough to reach the minimum amount for free shipping if offered. If no free shipping, I will order enough to keep the shipping charge for the item I am first after. I don't ever place an internet order for just a few items.....to me that's not worth it. I also look to see how long it will take to receive. I don't wait more than 7 days total.

I think more of us, should email and protest; this shipping cost is unreal.
They are probably picking up more of the cost from other cuttlebug machines sent out

Question: How do you know when they are going to feature papercrafting supplies on either HSN or QVC? Is there an email list or a way to see their upcoming programs?

I searched around but had no luck...it is usually accidental when I do catch anything paper related on those networks.

Thanks!

Shipping is one of those nasty things that we have to deal with, but it's even worse when you live outside of the U.S. I went to order something a couple of weeks ago that cost me $38. The shipping on the order was $45. Apparently the company sends everything out of the U.S. using Priority Post so that they can track it and insure it. I sent it to my SIL's place instead. Shipping cost to New Jersey? $7.95.

Insane.

I had a mix-up on a $55 order from Papertrey. I have an american PO box and somehow my mom forgot to pay the renewal fee, and my PTI package was returned. I had to then ship it to my Canadian address.... Wanna know how much?? $23.50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HALF of my purchase was then shipping!!!!!!

Needless to say we got that PO Box thing figured out and I will NEVER ship to Canada again!!

I've done that too, but this time I was so outraged that I refused to order $20 more worth of merchandise that I didn't want just to get free shipping. Still waiting for a reply from them.

I have my DVR set to record all the sb shows on HSN & QVC. You can also go to their websites and look at their monthly/weekly/daily schedules.

I heard back from the owner today. She said that she didn't know why their shipping charges were showing up so high, but that I could phone my order in (or request to pay by check), and they would calculate the actual shipping charges for me. I might do that, and I'm glad she had the courtesy to reply, but I also wonder what would have happened if I hadn't questioned the amount. Hmmm.

Ruth, You can sign up for e-mails on HSN, and QVC has a feature where you choose what category or vendor you want and they will send an e-mail to let you know when it's going to be on. You can watch the live TV on your computer.

I don't order online often. But when I find a site I might be interested in, the first thing I do is go to their "shipping information" section and see what the charges are. If they seem very high then I don't even bother looking at the items for sale. That way I don't waste my time shopping just to determine that the shipping is more than the items I want to purchase. And yes... that happened to me. A certain Canadian company that sells unmounted stamps (therefore, very light weight). I was interested in two stamps that added up to about $8. The shipping was $10.35. There was no way I was going to pay more for shipping than the item cost so I did not order from them.

I always do that, but this site didn't have the exact prices listed. I agree that I won't pay more for shipping than the items I'm ordering.
