2011 Cards for A Cause ~ AUGUST MISSION ~ Stamp from the Heart!
ORGANIZATION BEING FEATURED:
Hugs and Hope Club for Sick Kids!
Hugs and Hope is an internet-based group of caring people who are devoted to providing smiles for kids with serious illnesses, injuries or handicaps. The Club was created by Marsha Jordan in October 2000, as a ministry of encouragement for children battling critical illness. Visitors to the site pray for, encourage, and send these children cheerful, special, handmade cards (a.k.a."happy mail").

TYPE OF CARDS REQUESTED:
Happy Mail Only Please. The special instructions listed below are taken directly from the Hugs and Hope website:
We like you to send cheery cards that say things like "Thinking of You," "You're special," or "Hope you're having a great day" etc. We do not send "Get Well" cards because some of our club kids will not get well. Everything sent to our kids should be positive. Please do not say anything that could upset a child or a parent. For instance, do not write about inappropriate topics, such as the prognosis of the child. It's not appropriate to say, "I was sorry to hear the bad news," etc. Remember that the goal of each message is to bring JOY to the child. [B]
Mailed my card to Angel P (#5) this morning. I've been visiting SCS for several years but only noticed Cards for a Cause last week and knew I wanted to participate. I made several Fluffles Thinking of You cards during a bout of paper therapy last month and am really happy to be able to use them in such a worthwhile way. I hope to send a few out every week this month.
Hi everyone! Wowza! When you click into the thread for the instructions you will see that with Teapot Tuesday having had these kids featured as the destination this week, we have already run through the list and each child will be receiving a card. Since many of the stampers have enjoyed reading about the kids and making a special card specifically for them, I have changed the procedure so that you can pick and chose what kids to mail your cards to from the list.
In addition, if you have several cards you want to send, like so many of you always do, you can send age appropriate cards by reading a little about the kids on the site! Thanks so much everyone! You just make everything a huge success! I love SCSers!!!
Please do not send cards directly to Hugs and Hope....in this situation, cards only go directly to the kids on the list. That means addressing more envelopes! Yikes!
My card went out yesterday. I had a hard time making a card and writing a message...it went to a 13 year old boy. I'll be sending another and like that I can pick out the recipient.
I just finished picking out and getting ready to mail 16 cards. I liked that I could pick out who received them since I did not initially read the directions and I made all these kids cards and when I went to post them, I read what to do. So it was good to match the cards to the kids. As I read their ailments, it just broke my heart. I will be making more SpongeBob and John Deer cards next week to send to those that liked that.
Sophie and Diane.....Can you go tothis thread and post the name of the children you sent your cards to so Brenda can record them on the H&H site? She is watching that thread. If you already did, never mind, I could have missed your post!
Rita ~ 30 cards! Thank you so much for going to the address thread and making your individual posts there! That is very helpful for Brenda in reporting the mailing of the cards!
One quick question, I see that siblings (and their ages/interests) are listed on the Hugs & Hope website. Can we/should we send cards to them as well? Or are we only supposed to send them to the 85 kids on the list posted on SCS? Hope this wasn't already stated in the instructions somewhere and I just missed it.
Just don't want the siblings to be left out, I know it's pretty hard to have a brother or sister who is ill.
Thanks for the info. Getting a late start this month but hope to get a few cards done soon.

Hi Amy!
Absolutely you can go to the website....you don't have to be limited to the list. I think it would be wonderful to include siblings. I dont think you could do any wrong when it comes to kids getting hand made cards! Thanks for participating!
I got my card for Cameron S in Lafayette LA back as undeliverable. I will go to the site and report it.
Hmmmm....wonder what happened there? Rita, I know another person who had sent their card to one of the kids and got it back as well. But in that case it was because the child recently passed on. I hope that is not the case with Cameron as well...its a very sad thing!
I mailed out five cards today. They went out to Ariel, Hosanna, Eric, Bryant, and Conner. Thank you very much for the opportunity to send our cards to the children. Looking forward to next month! You can view my cards below.
