I just got back from Michaels, and thanks to this thread I asked for the Sr discount. She gave me 15% off!!! Guess I look REALLY old!!!!!!!!!!
LOL!
I checked some of the senior discount websites and they still have the senior discount as 10% with AARP card on Tuesdays. However, as a courtesy to their loyal (or not) customers, they should offer it anyway.

Reason: More info
You should be contacting, emailing Michaels head office, or actually the manager of the store should be checking on that for you. There is probably something in writing on their website about the senior discount everyday that could be printed out and taken with you. I have had no problem without the AARP card in Washington State.
My dad was one of the original extreme couponers. When we were kids, he would send us through separate lines at the grocery store in order to use as many "limit one per customer" coupons as possible.
Now that he's a senior, I'm going to take him to Michaels and make HIM go through a separate line for ME. LOL
I just looked it up on the michaels website. According to that it is a 10% discount with the aarp card. I guessing some stores might be lax in checking for the card. If that's the case good for you in that store. Lax application in some stores doesn't make the stores following the corporate statement wrong. I think it's like my aaa discount at a hotel. I have to show my card or I will pay the non aaa rate. I don't have to join aaa but then I wouldn't expect to get the lower rate that aaa negotiated for there members.
Since I am a teacher I'm better off with my teacher discount. I have to show my work ID card to get that.
Glad to hear for the discount. I'm also an AMAC member due to AARP policies that go against our beliefs. In regards to the discount, I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the info.
I tried to use the discount of a clearance purchase the other day and their computer wouldn't allow it. So the discount is good for regular and sale items but not clearance apparently. I have to the give the girl at the register credit for being willing to try for me though. Lol I think she was more disappointed than I was that it didn't work.

Coupons Never worked on clearance items. It states so on the coupon, if you read it.

I would never expect the everyday 10% off for seniors to work with a 20% off coupon when they have so much on sale for 50% off already, they would be giving you 80% off, I am very happy to get 10% off sale prices. None of the Michaels coupons work on clearance and neither does the 10% seniors discount.I am fine with that!

What I bought was not on sale at all so I use the 20% coupon. In the past they have let me use the 40% one item +10% AARP. I am fine with whatever discount I receive.

40% came off the highest non sale item. Additional 10%AARP came off the other items in your purchase. The AARP can not be applied to the 40% off coupon item. You did not receive 50% off for that item.

I don't think anyone here was complaining about not getting the additional discount. I for one was just letting others know that I tried and couldn't. Nothing wrong with trying IMO though.

Actually at one point coupons did work on clearance items which I always found to be astonishing! The Michael's store I frequent the most changed this a number of years ago which is totally understandable! Got to admit it was nice while it lasted
I was at Michaels in Langley BC Canada today, was going to ask if there was an everday seniors discount, but I didn't have to ask.
There was a very prominent sign by the cashiers that said 10% Seniors discount everyday on regular and sale prices.
That answers my own questions about if the discount was for Canadians too , and great news it is!!!!
First time I hear of this...
Wowww...good to know for sure!
I am assuming, though, that by 'seniors' it means to be age 65?
In that case I'll send hubby to pay!! Lol. ;)
PLEASE check out AARP politics before you join them just to get a discount at Micheal's, because 10% off at Mike's is NOT worth it if you don't agree with AARP politics!!!!!
And YES you need this card for the seniors discount a drivers licence will not do. I work at Mike's for a year and a half and my manager refused all diver licences as per Corporate
I totally agree, you should check out AARP, the organization is by seniors for seniors and has probably done more for the health and safety of the elderly than any other organization with a membership.
Our area is getting a Michaels this year and I am so stoked can hardly wait and now I get a discount!!! How good is that.

Yeah! Congrats!!
While I live in a large metropolitan area and have access to most big box stores, Michaels is the only one that is close enough to pop into on a whim. Even if I don't buy, it sure is nice to wander the aisles for inspiration.

What age to they consider seniors in Canadian Michaels? 55 as they do in the US? 60? 65?

In the U.S., AARP starts sending cards out at age 50. So at Michaels, you can get a discount at age 50.

Yep. I joined a few months before I turned 50. I'm 52 now, and don't usually think of pulling out my card. For some reason, I have it stuck in my head that most places don't begin offering "senior" discounts until you're 55 at a minimum.
I typically have a coupon when I pop into Michaels (I love the phone app!), but it's good to know on the odd occasion I don't! Thanks!
