Splitcoaststampers.com - the world's #1 papercrafting community
You're currently viewing Splitcoaststampers as a GUEST. We pride ourselves on being great hosts, but guests have limited access to some of our incredible artwork, our lively forums and other super cool features of the site! You can join our incredible papercrafting community at NO COST. So what are you waiting for?
There are snippets of JavaScript you can add to website code to disable right clicking on an image but the truth of the matter is, there are just as many programs that will allow you to do a screen shot. If someone really wants an image they will get it. This is the dark underbelly of the internet. The very thing that makes it a wonderful resource for meeting and interacting with others on multiple levels also makes it a place where some of the more unscrupulous people can take advantage of others. All you can do is try to protect yourself as much as you can and focus on the positive.
Makaren
Makaren is right.
To the OP, I am so very sorry this has happened to you. It is very unfortunate that many of us have been victims of image theft (a.k.a. harvesting).
I've learned, through some awful past experiences, that I need to watermark every single image I upload. I also often place the watermark on a location on the image where it cannot be cropped off without butchering the image, because often times, they will even deliberately crop it right off.
Watermarking cannot stop image theft, but, I hope it deters it, as Makaren said.
Image theft hasn't stopped me from sharing, but, sadly, it has impacted how much and how frequently . . . :(

You know, in light of my bad news earlier today, I'm off to spread some cheer around the SCS Gallery and post some lovely comments to show MY appreciation for my fellow SHARERS!
It won't be all of you (I'd be here all night!) but I wanted to let you know that you are ALL appreciated.
So to everyone of those lovely members who share ideas and gives us all inspiration -
you know, etsy has a forum on their site. maybe someone should start a thread and let them know about their fellow member....
It's against the Etsy TOU to call someone out on the fora. The owners of the photos can contact Etsy admin to have them removed, though, which would effectively stop the seller from doing this.
I have just had a message from the Etsy Seller - telling me she will remove my photo and that she never "passed it off as her own"!
I suggest others do the same if this happens to them - it will hopefully deter others from doing this.
All's well that ends well!
that's absolute crap. unless she specifically put your name under the picture and a statement that it was made by you, then she passed it off as her own. just because she didn't use those exact words means nothing. it's on her site and she's using it to make money.

Here is what I wrote:-
wasn't being nasty - just really upset and annoyed that you used my photo without permission!
In case you are unaware, it is actually breach of copyright to "steal" other peoples photos from websites. I work in a Copyright office so I know.
Although you have not physically stated that you made these items you have implied you have by not saying you haven't - false advertising and very misleading.
I am also aware that you have used other images which do not belong to you and no doubt these people will be in touch with you shortly as all are extremely annoyed.
The crafting Community is a very tight-knit place to be and we are all protective of our little pieces of art.
My photo is the main one you are using with the cream gerbera flower and the "sweet memories" tag on it.
Wow! I am so sorry this happened to you! I can not believe someone would be so brazen to take credit for your hard work! She would have had a hard time reproducing your beautiful tin, keep on crafting!
I'm so sorry this happened to you! I've had pictures stolen and feel your pain!! I'm so glad she removed it...I'm really surprised she boldly stole so many photos from SCS. Wow!!
If you need a watermark Beth does beautiful ones. She's awesome to work with and just recently had her blog name/ business blog stolen. The domain was purchased and redirected to another watermark, blog banner site!!!! Now that's some nerve!! You can read it here. http://freckledandfun.blogspot.com/2...d-and-fun.html
You can get your Watermarks and Blog Banners from her. The prices and info are listed if you scroll down Also protect your websites!! Everyone needs to read what happened to Beth!! It could happen to you?
My thanks to you Cupcake Angel. By the time I got around to emailing her this morning. I noticed that she no longer has anything up at etsy. I'm going to start watermarking my photos too.
Just an FYI-
You can't prevent people from downloading images on the internet to their computer. Script that prevents right-clicking is worthless because all web browsers automatically download the webpage and pictures on the page to a temp folder on your computer.
By the way, that's also a method you can use to check what websites and pictures have been surfed by your teenagers!
