The retired list is now on the demonstrator website. Looks like a made some good choices over the last year. Not too many of the sets I purchased have retired. I was surprised to see "shapes & shadows" on the list. That is one of my favorite sets. Anyone else surprised by any of the retired sets?
Thanks for list - got my highlighter - ready to shop!

I'm very surprised about Shapes and Shadows! That was a great set and so versitile - I just have to keep reminding myself that they are probably coming out with something even better but similar! I do look forward to getting the retired list - but two months before the new catty? Oh what awful suspense that is....Now I'm dying for the new catty to see all the great new sets that will replace the old great sets.
I was also very surprised with crayon kids! I'm so awful, I'm trying to decide which background stamp I'm going to have to have some day so I'm not tempted to pay $60 on Ebay for it - I am so bummed about not getting paisley and I've considered $50 for it.
Forgive my ignorance as I have never had any experience with SU, so can someone explain to me what the big deal is about the retired list? Does it affect demos in some way? Or can you sell them for more when they are retired?
I am so bummed out that my two favs to emboss are going- sketch an event and something to celebrate. But, what is worse, I am a new demo and just lost all but 4 sets to retirement! I guess I better demo the crud out of them while I still can!

I'm not a demo, but I can image that it would effect the demos.. They can't demonstrate those sets that have retired - so they store them? sell them?...etc. So if a demo has a lot of the ones that have just retired, her whole collection may be cut in half or more and she will have to buy lots of new ones to demonstrate, which could be very spendy!
You can sell them after they retire and some of those retired sets go for big bucks on Ebay!
Also, the big excitement, I think, for the retired list, is really the anticipation for the new catalog, which is a HUGE deal around Stampin-UP folk!
Oh, and then you have to decide on which retired sets you just can't live without plus try to save for July with the catty! It is a very serious thing! ;)
Demos are only allowed to demo sets that are currently available, so if you have a set you really like, say, for instance, Shapes & Shadows, then you can't use it to do workshops and parties after June 30. That's why everyone gets so excited about the list...that and seeing what they HAVE to get before it's gone forever!
Some retired sets sell for a lot more than original list price on eBay, but some you can get for cheap. If it's retiring now and you want it, might not be a bad idea to check out what's for sale since some demos will be getting rid of what they can't use in workshops anymore.
Really I think most of what's going bye-bye is the stuff I didn't want anyway...but now I'll just have to buy Charming Children before it's retired....I am SO just kidding!! Demon children!!! For reals, there isn't too terribly much on the retiring list that I have to get...I think seven sets? Last year I bought 12!
Retiring wheels are never listed. Its usually a safe bet that if a set is going, the wheel will go too. The reasoning behind this is, SU does not manufacture the wheels and cannot control their stock to meet possible runs on certain wheels that they would not be able to meet.
Demos are only allowed to demo sets that are currently available
It's not that we aren't allowed to demo a retired set, but it would be in our best interest as a demo to only demo current sets that are available to purchase by customers (from us) Why create a need/desire that we would would not be able to fill?.

Is there any demo's out here willing to share a Canadian version?
I know it probably won't be that much different but we do have a couple of french stamp sets (which may or may not be in the US cat.) and don't have that "star spangled" set in ours ...
Thank you for the list! Just a few on the list that my daughter and I want. So we'll probably go together and get those and then wait for the new catty!
I know they dont list the wheels but why dont they list any accessories.. like punches etc.. or should we assume if they dont list them they wont go away.. I would hate to miss out on a punch or glitter and not even know it wont be available.. and certainly to order all the punches in a mad fear is not a good idea..
Well, as a demo, I must say I am a little miffed. 17 of the sets that I have are being retired!!!! Luckily my hubby said, "You'll just have to buy some more!" He's so wonderful! I am sad to see Shapes and Shadows, all Little Layers, and Good Times. They are very useful! As I scrolled the list I was just waiting to see the next stamp set that I own on it! Thank goodness my latest alphabet purchase didn't retire (like last year!).

A lot of mine retired too! I am going to sign up probably next month or the month after to be a demo, and this really gums up the works. Oh well. Any word yet on whether there will be a sign-on special in May?
Haven't seen anything for May, but maybe in June...

Well I just became a demo this month and only 4 of the sets I have right now retired... so that is nice for my business... but a bunch of sets I want and looked forward to demoing are retiring... hmmm.. now do I buy them for myself or wait to see what is new and buy them for myself and my business... hehe - oh the decisions!!
I can honestly say that this in my 3rd year as a demo... I own 81 sets in the current catty (does not include any sets from mini cattys, retired sets, Sell-a-Bration, or non-SU sets, either - ugh) - of these, 21 are retiring... I ordered sets from both of the last 2 cattys before they were "gone forever" and I have only put 1 of those sets to really good use. I personally feel I've learned it is better to wait for the new catty to see what goodies I can actually use in my workshops... I have people ask about sets no longer available from cards/gifts I've made and had to tell them that particular set is not available... I will be selling any & all that I can to put towards the stuff I want from the new catty! If you are a big scrapbooker, there may be some things you can't live without for your scrapbooks - those are the sets I keep & "stash" for use in my kids' scrapbooks, or let my DD lovingly adopt to practice being a future "Stampin' Up Girl", as she calls it!! HTH!
SU! has the retiring sets on their site but a while back I'm sure I read a thread in here stating that some of the inks were retiring or that new ink colors were coming out? I've searched and searched but can't find any mention realting to the inks? Does anyone know if any of the ink is retiring or if any new colors are being 'added' to the sets? Or if any ribbon is being retired?
Stampin' Up! mentioned the release of some new colors in the "In Color" line. These will be additional colors, not replacing any of the color families.
There is no hint from SU about retiring accessories - they don't produce many of the accessories, so they can't control a run on sales that announcing a retirement would cause.
My favorite version of the retired list is on the regular website it is ordered by page number. The other 2 on the Demo website are alphabetic and by item number.

I'm not sayin' I do & I'm not sayin' I don't, but I *may* have access to a picture of the new colors. Same with the Summer Mini for those that haven't been blessed by it's beauty yet.

Last year, most demos got their catalogs on June 30. But a couple demos got theirs early and let us know what accessories were retiring.
I believe they don't announce those because they aren't made in-house, and can't handle a rush on the items. So if you've been eyeing something, I'd say get it. I'm just ordering some punches for myself, with that thought in mind.
