Although I am new to this site, I have high hopes that you will be able to help me. I've tried to post this on the SU! Demo Forum, but haven't seen it posted. So I turn to you all.... There was an article in the paper the other day (see attachment), and it was about my next door neighbor's daughter, who was a helicopter pilot in Iraq. My family and I refer to my neighbor as "Auntie Li", she is currently with her daughter in Washington D.C. Although the article is about her daughter, I would like to tell you a little about "Auntie Li".
Prior to Thanksgiving 2004, Auntie Li received the heart retching call, that her daughter was shot down, while flying her helicopter in mid air. Her daughter was critically injured (see article). What made it worse was that Auntie Li's husband, was very old, and sick, and doctor's wouldn't permit him to fly. Therefore, Auntie Li packed up and flew to D.C. alone. She stayed there for 2 weeks.
When Auntie Li returned, her husband had a heart attack. He stayed in the hospital for 4 days. He begged for his doctor's to allow him to fly up to D.C., and see his daughter, perhaps for the last time. After convincing the doctors to allow him to fly, he flew with Auntie Li to D.C. No more than 3 days after arriving there, he was admitted into the hospital there. He had another heart attack.
With Auntie Li's daughter in one hospital room, and her husband in another, I can't imagine the enormous grief that Auntie Li must've been going through!!!
After 20 days, her husband passed away. He was able to see his daughter one last time, and still be in the presence of his strong loving wife. Auntie Li will be returning to Hawaii in about 2 weeks.
After seeing her go through all of this, and waiting for her return, I wanted to do something special for her. So, I turn to all of you, my Stamping Sisters.... I am asking for those interested, if you could make a "Thinking of You" card for Auntie Li. I am compiling a folder with all the cards received, and will be giving them to her, upon her return. I know these will brighten her day, and she'll be able to open the folder any day to bring smiles on days that she is down. With the help of all you, we can make her days better, one day at a time...

Thank you all so very much, for your kind words & gestures!! Auntie Li's daughter lost her right leg above the knee and her left leg below the knee when a rocket-propelled grenaded took down her Black Hawk helicopter in Iraq. She is now undergoing intense treatment and rehabilitation, but earlier last month, she appeared before a Senate panel - not to talk about her own challenges but those facing the Dept of Veterans Affairs in caring for wounded service people. What tremendous strentgh she has, and with such courage!! She along with the other Soldiers sent over seas are Fearless Heros!!!! And I Thank You all for helping with sending her mom thoughts and prayers, through your hand crafted cards. She will truly appreciate it!!!

Thank you for sharing this family's story with us. A card will go out this week. Is there a way to get one to her Daughter also?? My Nephew's Bradley was hit by a suicide car bomber His injuries are not near what Hers are but the mental stresses are still there. The Men and Women that fight for our Great Country are ALL HEROS to me .I will consider it a priveledge to be able to send a card out.
Thank U, Shelly! If you or anyone else would like to send her daughter a card, you can send them to the same address - and I will have Auntie Li send them all to her daughter! What a delight it will be for her to open an envelope full of beautiful cards!
On the same topic, please allow me to send YOU, Shelly, a card for your nephew! Sending a little aloha is the least I can do. I know that these cards serve as little "hugs" for all the recepints out there!!! Please PM me with your address if you wish.

Oh my.... I just saw this post. I will be sending cards for both Auntie Li and her daughter to you. My nephew just made it home safely after 14 months in Iraq. Please keep us posted on how they both are doing.
I saw her story on a news or public information channel like CSPAN. I will make a card tonight and send tomorrow on 4/6. It is such a small world. I don't usually stop on CSPAN, but she caught my attention. Your beloved neighbor is in my thoughts.
PS: I hope I am not thinking of the wrong person. If so I apologize.

YEP!!! That was definitely her, alright!! You know, we've seen pictures of Tammy (Auntie Li's daughter) before she was shot down, and after she was shot down. The amazing part, is that she holds herself together so well - and she still smiles just as she did prior to the incident! Such a strong woman!

Count me in as well for a card for each of them. Mine will go out on Monday.
Is the name of the street Hoohulu? I just wanted to make sure no letters were missing - it just reminded me of Honolulu. lmk
I will keep them both in my prayer this morning.
Blessings to you for being such a kind & caring friend to them both during this difficult time,
Debbie
