I counted the cards last night. Put the ones aside for my DH and then for the other wife. And guess what....I am sending Tawnya 400 cards.
That means:
I got 350 cards
The other wife here got 50
Tawnya got 400
AND I am sending another 200 to a soldier I found on anysoldier.com that is going to do the same as mine and Tawnya's DH.
WE GOT 1,000 cards...how cool is that.
Im guess that means we met that goal. As stated before...after we reached the goal I asked that if anyone had any extra cards that you wanted to send over to get on anysoldier.com and find a soldier and send them cards. I would encourage you to do that. You can even find soldier from your state or even in a particular branch.
I truly want to say thank you to everyone. My DH still can believe I actually got as many cards as I did. Thanks a bunch. And Tawnya…the cards are going to be coming in two flat rate priorities….so, tell me when you get them.
Love all you guys

Not sure if this is the place to post this or not. I posted this on another discussion board and it was removed so I am going to try here...I hope it can stay up ;)
Ok…I have been thinking of this for a while and now the time to act is now. Currently my husband is deployed in Afghanistan. He will not be home until next February. So, I will be sending Christmas stuff to him (little tree, tensile…etc.) But I would like to put in the box a card each soldier there with him. DH has said before that there are some guys that never get anything and that breaks my heart.
Now, what I would like to ask of you…I am going to try and collect 350 card (yes, I said 350) that is how many men are there and will miss the Christmas with there family. Is there anyone out there that would be willing to help me? If I start collecting now…my hope is to send it right before Thanksgiving to assure they get there on time. I would have my husband hand them out to everyone.
So, what I need is a Christmas card and envelop from you guys. If you could add a note of encouragement and a wish that would be great but if you cant just send the card and envelop and I will have people here locally fill them out. I know this can be done (I pray that this can be done). I know this Christmas is going to be hard on my husband because this is our second daughters first Christmas. I know of 4 other guys that will also not be here for there child’s first Christmas.
Send the cards to:
I will take the cards up until Thanksgiving (if any arrive after that I will send them separately to have them handed out).
Surely we all have at least 1 or 2 holiday card fronts we could make into full cards and send to Heather! I just found a couple myself and plan to make some.
Heather,
What a great idea. I ran a soldier drive a year ago for a friends son. When he came back he came to thank me and said it means so much to the soldiers to know that Americans support them even if they don't support the war. I will send you some cards. Also God bless your husband and all the other soldiers with him. I also would like to say God bless you and your two daughters for sacrificing for the rest of us to maintain our freedom. Take care.

Hello Heather,
Yes I will help out. What a wonderful idea. I will mention to my card stamping freinds and have them make a coupld also. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Have a wonderful day.
Heather, I am new to the forum but sure would be willing to make a couple cards and get them mailed to you. I think the soldiers are doing so much for the USA that we should be able to do something for them during the holidays.
Thanks for doing this and I will get cards made the next time I sit down to make my cards.

Heather if you provide me with his APO address, I will happily send several hundred cards complete with envelopes for them to send back to their loved ones...this is what I do! Please PM me if you would like me to send him a box.
Count me in. Just sent an email to the Cardswap group (only five of us) to see if they would make an extra card for our November 6 swap. I'll be gathering my "extra" holiday cards from past years and making a few more. DH is retired after 20 years in the Navy and only missed one Christmas - our DD was 20 months old that Christmas so it was the first Christmas she could "get what it was about". I'll send what I can. Wonderful idea!
There are a number of us on board that send blank cards to the troops. We have no problem getting the donations of cards from members when asked. I'm sure you'll have your 350! I'll be sending you some as I make them.
Might I suggest that you rename your post to something like "holiday cheer for the troops" or something like that. Also, put another post in the Need a Lift forum and place one at 2peasinabucket. There are quite a few stampers for the troops over there.
First, I would like to extend my thanks and prayers to all of the soldiers over there. I definitely will be sending you some Christmas cards. We send regular cards during the year also so if that is a need for them, let us know! We'll be willing to oblige! TFS!

Heather,
What a wonderful idea! And I'm so happy I ran across this. I had to cancel last minute on a craft fair I had planned on attending. I have quite a few Xmas cards that I planned on selling and will be happy to send them your way.
Thank you soo much ladies. I am so happy that with your help this goal is going to be met.
Heather
ps....just so you know...I have had several people tell me that I should just donate to some organization to have the cards donated. While that is wonderful there is no guarantee that they will go to my husband’s station. Unlike the other three groups that are spread out in Afghanistan (that are from the same group here in KY), his group is the farthest out and sadly are forgotten (IMP) about most of the time. For example, if a helicopter can’t bring the mail (because of missions that are more important) they get nothing. There shop (BX), that is only open a few hours a day if that, has three magazines (that is not 3 types...that is actually 3 magazines). I have sent him so much stuff because they don’t have it…like razors and even toilet paper. I don’t want to step on any toes…I just want to explain why I am going this route…understand
Heather, I have a bunch of holiday cards I can send as well. I'm already going through a huge bunch to get a box ready for Amber, so it's no problem to find holiday ones to send you. Are you wanting blank cards for soldiers to use to send home, or for cards addressed TO soldiers with "Thanks," "Thinking of you" type sentiments?
They are Christmas card to the guys. It would be nice if you could put a special note in them ... like we will be thinking of you during the holidays or something like that. This is not a must because I can have people locally do them here. They dont have to have anything on the envelop...my husband will just give each guy a envelop. No postage needed...I will put them all in one box and send them to him.
If you can only send one card GREAT!! every card counts. Please dont feel as though you have to send alot.
While that is wonderful there is no guarantee that they will go to my husbands station. Unlike the other three groups that are spread out in Afghanistan (that are from the same group here in KY), his group is the farthest out and sadly are forgotten (IMP) about most of the time.
Thanks for explaining why you need to have the cards sent directly to you. It is good knowing that our cards will be going to those that hardly ever receive any!
Count me in. I think this is so cool. Just imagine the Christmas those guys are going to have now! Not only do strangers care enough to make cards for them, but one of their own (your hubby) is hand delivering them! There is NOTHING like a personal touch.

Great idea! I'm stamping tonight. I would be happy to make some Christmas cards for the troops. I am thankful for all they do to protect our freedoms. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to do this for them! The cards will be on their way to you soon.
Thanks for posting so we can have a chance to take part in this. I will get some done and I want my 3 children to help, too. They need to appreciate these guys, too. Thank YOU for making the sacrafice that you make by letting your husband go to protect our freedom. All of our troops and their families deserve our heartfelt thanks!

stop it..when i read the part that some don't get anything i teared up (sniffle sniffle). i'll be sending some cards your way by the end of the week. won't be too many though because mid-terms are this week too ( :( ) but some is better than none right ??
Just saw your post Heather. Will get some Christmas cards together and get them out to you within the next 2 weeks. This is a great idea. Thanks for thinking of the guys and gals.
I will be getting a bunch out to you soon. My DH will be spending a few weeks in Kuwait, but will luckily be home on the 23rd of Dec. so I can send what I would normally send to his unit to you! Do you want Christmas decorations also? I bought a bunch last year to send to DH's unit, but they won't be deployed over the holiday. Please pm me or email me at [email protected]
Bless you for doing this for our troops, especially those who are often forgotten!

I am in charge of Alaska's Operation Military Kids program ~ and a military spouse too! . At one of our 4-H/Military Kids camps this summer, we made about 60 Christmas cards (the kids did). They are very sweet cards ~ I tear up every time I read through them! I would love for them to be distributed ~ and so would the kids. A number of them that made the cards have a parent deployed as well.
I would be happy to send them, along with some envelopes!!!
Thank you for doing this!!! I know that the soldiers appreciate it!!!!

I was a consultant for three years and have many cards from hundreds of swaps. I was just getting ready to get rid of them and this is much better use. A dozen are on their way tomorrow and when I find the rest, there will be more to send. Thank you and they guys and gals in our military.

Was speaking with Shirley Rae today and she told me about this thread. I would also like to participate in sending cards. I also would like to know if their unit could use cards with no messages on the inside to send home to their loved ones. I just finished designing a very SIMPLE (that would be only three steps, a miracle for me) card to send to Iraq but I would LOVE to send them to someone in Afganistan. I'm so very proud of your husband and his unit for the sacrifice they are making for our safety here in America. I thank you also for your sacrifice as you keep the home fires burning for him. Looking forward to your reply about the "empty" CHRISTmas cards.
