I just heard about this on another board. I don't know a lot about it...don't know if they are Sketch or Ciao markers. There are limited colors, but right now you can use a coupon and get them for around $3.25. They are not in the marker section in the M's of the people talking about them, but near the manager's office door. When people have asked employees about them the employees don't know what they are....surprise, surprise.
If anyone has more information, please share here.

That's interesting!!! I'll have tocheck my M's next time I am there.
I went tonight and found the copic airbrush system back with the art markers, but no copics. Asked 3 employees and no one knew what a copic was or if they would be carried. But, I'm thinking if you have the airbrush system you will probably carry the markers. Crossing my fingers. Thanks for the heads up.

I saw them at my Michael's last night, near the CASHIER, and sort of mixed in with some other marker brands. Not a huge selection for shading, sort of a sampling of colors, maybe about 50 or so markers. I did not see a price or code on them, they must have just put them out. I didn't ask since I just ordered a bunch from Dick Blick, last weekend they had 15% off their already discounted price and free shipping on $100 order (and that included the refills). FYI Dick Blick is also on e-bates, I got another 6% rebate!
Knowing the Michaels in Canada they'll probably be double the price of what I can get them for at other stores. Even with coupons up here I can buy a ton of stuff cheaper at the LSS.
I get my Ciaos in Canada at Curry's Art supply for $3.50ish each

There sketch are only $4.75

In my Michaels, they were in the art supply section with the prismacolor markers, etc... They are the sketch markers and are sold individually at $6.99.

Wish I had read this before I went shopping yesterday. I was in Michaels but didn't look. But $6.99 is rather ridiculous for one marker, don't you think? I thought it was bad when I paid $5 each for four that I got at a local art store.

I know a mgr at a Michaels, and yes it is confirmed they will be carrying copics, M's is not sure yet if it's sketch or ciao but airbrushing is a definate also. It will be arriving in a month or so. I asked about using coupons and as far as mgmt knows, its a yes.
It has to be hard for stores to know which are passing fads and which things are going to be around a long time. So many things come and go so quickly. I still see the old style punches at ACM but what are they to do? They need to make some money so they need to try to sell out before they order the flat ones....
If any of your stores are like mine they have a better choice on line. My Joann's sucks, hardly any stamping crafts so I always have to order on line. I think it's Michael's that has copics on line.
I saw Copics in Michaels this weekend. They are over by all the art supplies/canvas and it's in the back of the store. You can't see anyone back there. I asked where they were and they showed me. She shows me the bins and is surprised there are only 12 left because the bins were full that morning. She checked with the manager to see if they were getting any more. According to their inventory the bins should be full. They only sold twelve. They must have all been stolen.

People are really "low life" when they steal any hobby/craft stuff!! No one " needs" this stuff, it is not like food.
Quite a few years ago I worked part time in a craft store and I was shocked at the amount of theft .
Michael's better start keeping the Copics near the register .

I agree. I worked part-time in a chain craft store for a few months in between jobs. The issue of theft was shocking to me, too. Typically, though, the theft is not by people who will be using the stuff, it is by people who plan to re-sell it (hence stealing not a handfull, but a bucket-full of whatever). Whether it's individually on an ebay-type situation, or in an unscrupulous person's 99 cent store... They can sell it at a cheap price and still have a huge profit margin, since they got their "stock" for free by stealing it! :(

Occasionally I'll make a trip to Curry's for this sort of thing. Good prices, and since it's only art supply, their staff is very knowledgeable (I think a lot of them are college graphic arts majors working part-time in their 'medium' -- compared to a general craft store, where staff have to try to cover knitting, embroidery, cake decorating, wedding crafts, floral arranging, and the list goes on and on).
Jennifer R, do you mind my asking which LSS you shop at? I'm in Ontario, too, but not sure what part you're in. Of course, if you live in/near London, ON, I am very jealous of you because that's where my favourite stores are (but 2-3 hours away from me!!)!

That happened with the Nesties also, both Hobby Lobby and Michaels had to put them in the back and you had to get a tag to get one because people were stealing them blind and selling them on Ebay.
There are a lot of people on Splitcoast and we CAN make a difference.
If ALL of us refused to buy anything from e-Bay, Craigslist or flee markets that is advertised as brand new in the packaging if it is priced well below what they could have paid wholesale, then they will stop stealing . They will have no market for their ill gotten merchandise.
None of us need any of this stuff bad enough to encourage thievery
Supporting business so they continue to carry what we want is in our best interest.
Sorry for being a tad off topic!

That's amazing about the copics and spellbinders being stollen. No wonder they don't keep them where people can see them. I'm still shocked that the Cricut cartridges are in a locked up cage! It makes me feel funny when I buy them at my M's because she has to go to the secret cage with a ring full of keys that's over in the other corner of the store!!
If the thieves where selling their Spellbinder booty from my Hobby Lobbys they couldn't have said "new in box". The box was left in the store! They slid the die cuts out the side and just stole them.
Sheesh! What did they think they were real copper or something?
My concern is if stores have too many items that are magnets for thieves and they need to keep them under lock and key will they decided it is too much of a bother to sell them? Then we all lose. I like having things I can see before I buy them

I'm hoping my teeny-tiney Michaels will be carrying them soon. I have a few of the Prismacolor ones to try out since that's all my M's carried at the time, and I didn't want to spend a ton on Copics just to find that I didn't like that type of markers (regardless of manufacturer). Well, I do like them for the little I've used them (since I have such a small selection). I was in M's today getting some new Tim Holtz stuff that my M's just now started to carry (tiny selection, but it's better than none at all). I had a question about a product and was able to track down one of the very few sales associates that actually knows anything about the products or what I'm talking about. She was in the middle of re-doing a big section of the fine arts supplies. Hope that means mine's getting Copics - not that I really need to spend anymore on this craft that what I already have, but there are so many times that water based just doesn't cut it for what I'm trying to make.

I can't believe people steal craft supplies... sheesh....
That worries me that stores will quit selling the supplies and then I will have to order on line. Don't get me wrong, I like ordering online, I also like being able to run to the store and play the same day....
This will be good if we can use coupons on the copics. 6.99 seems a bit much.

I think the question is where *DON'T* I shop LOL! I'm in Burlington but work in Toronto so I shop at Stamping Bella, Scrapalicious and Scrapbook Queens when I'm at work or on the way home. Locally I tend to shop the most at the Memory Keeper in Hamilton.
I buy most of my stamps on line directly from the manufacturer's in the U.S. (Unity, My Favorite Things, Purple Onion Designs). I also go to Buffalo shopping pretty regularly since we're less than an hour from there. I get most of my adhesives and cardstocks at AC Moore or Joann's over there. It's sooooo much cheaper!
My Mom actually lives in London so I also buy a lot from Scrapping Great Deals. I usually go to the store when I visit her but I buy stuff on line from them and my Mom picks it up for me. Great store!
My Michael's in Pittsburgh, PA has them. Sketch. Not all colors, maybe 3 dozen different colors. $6.99. Much better deals at iCopic where I usually purchase.

My Michael's in Ogden, Utah has the same.
I am awful. I couldn't wait the whole five days it would have taken to order them online, at more than $2.00 per marker cheaper, so I went ahead and bought a few at my Michael's. Well, more than a few. Well, more than more than a few.

I'm too embarrassed to actually say how many! But I did have a coupon for 15% off my entire order, excluding sales items, which went toward the price of the markers. So, that's my justification for having no willpower whatsoever.
