October 12 is still the official grand opening date. BUT, if you are anxious to check out the store, I am pretty sure that it will physically be open to the public a few days earlier.
If you aren't signed up already, be sure to sign up for the email list: http://www.hobbylobby.com/email_subs.../subscribe.cfm
If your zip code is within several miles of the store, then you should get an email with a special grand opening coupon in it on October 12th.

Do you know how close you have to be to the stores zip code to get the grand opening coupon? I'm about 20 minutes or so from the store (less if there were no trafic and street lights). I would love to get a coupon for it. I have already signed up for there emails. I did months ago when I found out one was coming here. In fact I am the one that posted it on here.
Coupons????????????? I want one, too, Gail!! Maybe in the Sunday paper??
Nancy says the dry run should be on 10/9 - one week from today! WOO HOO!!!!!!!!!

I'll let you know if I find/get any coupons. Maybe we can finally meet each other too!!
It would be fabulous to meet more fellow SCSers in person (I've met several but only one lives near me).
And, NANCYRUTH I have a card you sent me carefully packed away (in our storage unit) because I knew our apartment would be too small to organize my stash and i was afraid some stuff would get lost or damaged. But our downsizing is (relatively) temporary (from 3BR house w/ finished basement to 2BR apt.)
Don't forget you can check out the specials and coupons each week. They can be printed from your computer. I print out my coupons and keep them in my purse so I always have them should I be passing by. I do print extra just in case I have somone with me that can use it or just by an extra item for me (Hubbys are great for this). The store has 50% off sales a lot and the clearance is great too. I picked up the house-mouse with the pacifier today for $1.68 and the mouse under the water spout for $3.59. Happy Shopping!

Janice ... unless you're planning to be in the area for another reason I would definitely call the store first!
I drove by it today and all I saw were signs on the doors with the official opening date (10/12) and lots of work still going on inside (involving ladders and power washers). Perhaps they had a "dry run" on a weekend because there would be more traffic than on a weekday?

Good Idea! I was planing on trying to call tomorrow anyway!

Please post here if they're actually open for customers!
I may have to reschedule a maintenance call (the dryer vent isn't connected properly but all the week's laundry is done but the maint. "dept." for my apt. complex hasn't set an appointment yet 'coz I said to just let me know what day you're coming.)
It all depends on where in CT you are coming from. The new Hobby Lobby is in a shopping center just off of Route 9 in Poughkeepsie (next to a larger K-Mart and the center also has a Christmas Tree Shoppe and a Bob's Discount Furniture). This is the Short Hills Mall which is next to the Poughkeepsie Galleria mall. Lots of shopping opportunities!
I think you'd have to take I-84 West (but if you knew me you'd know to use mapquest instead of me LOL!) to exit 13 (very close to the Walmart) and drive several miles north on Route 9 (this could be slow depending on traffic patterns).

Janice,
When I signed up at HobbyLobby.com I received an e-mail coupon for a percentage off kids crafts this week.
Hi everyone. I just got back from up there. They have a sign on the door saying grand opening Oct. 12th. If you didn't know about them you could miss it. The Hobby Lobby sign is a coming soon Hobby Lobby banner type sign. The name is not on the building yet. i looked through the door and they are still setting things up. If anyone hears more about them being open before the 12th PLEASE post it!!! I can't wait!!:-D
I just got off the phone with the Chambersburg store and they are OPEN!! I think she called it a soft opening with the Grand Opening being on Monday. So I know where I'll be headed tomorrow!

Hi Janice,
Did you get to go? Are they really opened? If so I will be going there tomorrow for sure!!!!
I think Janice is going to a store in PA not the one in Poughkeepsie. I might drive past it tomorrow (but I'll be w/DH) and will post any observations/purchases I make!
I live near Chambersburg, PA, and am happy to announce that their Hobby Lobby store will open on October 12. I called the Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce and received that information. I can't wait!!!
I'm getting very excited for the NY store to open in Poughkeepsie and would love to read the experiences of anyone that has gone to a "soft" and/or grand opening of any other Hobby Lobby!
A "dry run" is scheduled to start on the 9th, but you might want to call the store before you make a drive up there just in case.
If you are on the email list, you will get a coupon on sunday. You can also go to the website and get the coupon every week here: http://www.hobbylobby.com/weekly/coupon.cfm
There will also be a special grand opening sale at this store starting on monday I can't tell you what is going to be on sale, but I can tell you that I think you will like it!
This week's coupon is just for kids actvity kits, but there are frequently "40% off any one regular priced item" coupons posted. The coupon changes every week (it's updated on the site on Sundays).

Cool update! Thanks so much for sharing. DH and I will probably be busy on Saturday so I guess I'll make my first trip Monday (unless I can swing by on Friday!)
THEY ARE OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nancy called and spoke with a salesperson named Kim. Hobby Lobby in Poughkeepsie is OPEN OPEN OPEN OPEN OPEN OPEN OPEN OPEN OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to Hobby Lobby today. I have to go back again to see everything. The store is big and has alot of stuff!! I had to leave so I was able to pick up my son from pre-school on time. I did get a stamp set that was only $5. All the clear stamps are 50% off until Saturday.I am hoping for some really good "Grand Opening" specials!!;)
I did make it to the Hobby Lobby in Chambersburg yesterday!!! The paper and ribbon was on sale for 50% off so I didn't leave empty handed! I'm even more anxious for the Hanover store to get here!!
I went to the HL in Poughkeepsie today! I love it ... very friendly staff, big store - still being stocked. Bought some Spellbinder dies and ribbon, a few markers and pencils and 2 magazines (nice selection and every once in awhile I need to flip pages instead of click next.)
Might go back next week (Monday if possible) for the grand opening but I really shouldn't spend anymore money and temptation is too ... tempting LOL!

Sounds like you had fun!! I went and did buy a few things and wanted to get some spellbinders but I am waiting till they go on sale or I have a coupon. I really want to go on Monday too. My boys are off from school so I will have to see how it goes. I might have to bribe them with lunch or Dunkin' Donuts...LOL!!!;)

I tried to wait but since I have wanted them for a long time already I caved. Plus, if I waited then one or both of the following would have happened: the coupon wouldn't be a general-% off type and/or the dies I wanted would be out of stock .
A friend and I are heading to Poughkeepsie in a couple of hours to check out the new Hobby Lobby. It will take us about 90 minutes to get there. Can't wait to see the store. I've never been to one, but my friend has and she says they are awesome!!
I'm going back today ... DH remembered that I said I wanted to go today (he doesn't know I went yesterday) so has a short list of errands for me to do on the way (PO and p/u Rx for my live-in FIL). But I need another cup of coffee before getting dressed and I also need my SCS fix 'coz he hogs the computer on weekends!
Well, now I can say I've been to Hobby Lobby. While the store is large and carries a WIDE variety of items, I wasn't greatly impressed with their stamping section. To be more specific, I was disappointed to not find any Sizzix items. I was hoping to find some dies that Michael's and AC Moore don't carry, but I found nothing. Maybe I missed them ... who knows.
I don't know that I'll go back any time soon. The store is 60 miles away.

I was at the store today -- it is HUGE - and has a really nice assortment of MANY things . I really kind of went through there fairly quick as I had to get back home, but all in all I think it's a nice store. Looking forward to seeing what the 'grand opening' sale will entail. I live about 40 minutes away, so it certainly won't be a 'frequent' trip, but would definitely go there again -- besides, there's a brand new Sonic on the way there -- I might have to stop and try some tots too ;). LOL.
