OK, dropped into my local Big Lot today, and came out with several clear stamp sets at $2 each. Inkadinkado & Hampton Art sets, the 4 X 8 size sets. I bought Halloween, damask, floral & inchie sets. There were lots more. Hm, wonder if I ought to check the other Big Lots stores......
Dang! I was just in the parking lot of Big Lots contemplating whether to take the time to see if they had anything - I passed. Maybe I will not feel motivated. TFS
TONS of stuff. But it's hit or miss, since different stores get different things. We have 3 Big Lots in Wichita, and if I find something terrific that I want more of, I'll go to the other 2 and check it out. But really. how can you knock $10 value clear stamp sets for $2???
At the second Big Lots here in Wichita, they had even MORE packages of clear stamps. 2 kinds of inchie stamps (one with an oriental theme, one more of a woman theme), lots of different alphabet sets (at least 5 sets), a baby theme, damask, a set of fancy word stamps (each word very ornate?), etc. I only bought some mini sets (they had those marked $2 also, but when I asked the manager- he agreed with my "50 cents at the other store") and some small silver stick on star embellishments that were 25 cents a package.
The thing that boggles my mind about BL is they have your normal Studio G $1 clear stamps that are generally $1.00 at Michaels or Joanns, but they sell them for $2.00
They did have a lot of the clear alphabets, plus others....going to wait & get them on Friday.
They also have Martha Stewart 6pk inks for $2.00, plus her ribbon for $2.00-I bought tons of the adhesive metal flat beads for $.50 a pk, I think you get 20 rhinestones in them.
Every time they put out new paper packs of pattern paper, I generally buy them because you can't be the prices of $4.00 or $5.00 and it's nice paper.
I stopped in my local Big Lots yesterday for something else and remembered this thread, so I went over to the crafts area (or what my store has for their craft area which isn't much). They had one yucky looking 4x6 set for $2 but had a ton of the Studio G stamps like what stamp300 in post #16 above stated - $2 for what you can get at Michael's or JoAnn's for $1. The paper they had was junk quality. The only thing I ended up leaving the store with were a few $3 DVD's that my kids haven't seen to add to their stash of "new to them" movies on really long car rides.

The thing is the people putting the price stickers on are not stampers. They see a list that says "stamp sets" price at $2, and put that tag on. They don't look further and see that the mini sets ought to be 50 cents.
Challenge them on the pricing, explaining that these are above the regular store prices. The manager at the store I was in absolutely took my word, understood the ridiculousness of charging $2 for the mini sets, and adjusted the price to 50 cents for me.

I'd challenge them if my store had anything really worth purchasing, but alas, they seldom have anything decent anymore. I've previously (couple of years ago) got lots of great buys in that area as well as other parts of the store. Don't know if they got new management in or what, but stock seldom changes or sections I loved to shop in have gotten so small that it's hardly worth going in even to look anymore. Any other bigger stores are too far of a drive to make it worth the drive with the price of gas. I've had better luck at my Marshall's and those types of stores at finding things than Big Lots, but even those findings are few and far between. I used to get a ton of great stuff at Tuesday Mornings, but they shut down our local one and the closest one is again a haul to get to. I guess it's a good thing that my stash is huge and really don't need to purchase anything for a very long time.
I am taking my granddaughter to the airport today. Guess what is right down the street.Yeap Big Lots. I will have to stop in and see what good buys they have this
week. Thank you all for being such good Enablers.;)
A Big Lots opened recently in the former Circuit City store which is adjacent to my local Michaels. How convenient is that! I went when they first opened but they weren't fully stocked yet and didn't have much in the crafts section. Will definitely have to give it a second chance - probably today!
I did question the staff at my Big Lots about the $2 price on the minis, and I was told that they just sold "a ton" of them at that price and they wouldn't adjust them. I did pick up several of the larger clear sets from Inkadinkado for $2. I did get some of the Bazzill cardstock packages for $4, but I passed on the other papers as they've been there for quite sometime at $5 a pack. I like to stock up on their scrapbook storage items in the back-to-school section this time of year. I use the $1 plastic storage pockets to organize my stickers, and I love to decorate the accordian folders for my grandkids for their school papers that need signed or saved. Target also carries these in their $1 Shop.
I did score big at Tuesday Morning again. I bought some of the Jetmax craft storage items like what you get from Making Memories on clearance! The revolving desktop organizer was only $11.99! There was tons of paper that was less than $5 a package, and I even got an assortment of 100 pcs of 12 x 12 cardstock for only $4.99! Some of the the corner punches were $1.99, and the smaller punches were only 99 cents. I even stocked up on some crystal beads for 99 cents. I love their gorgeous boxes for hiding stuff, and you shouldn't forget to check out their kitchen aisle for more storage items while you're there.
Went to my Big Lots today & they still have the minis at $2.00 which I don't think anyone is buying them. They should make them at $.50 which I don't quite understand because the bigger clear stamp sets are $2.00
