We get a Brigham Young U. channel on our satellite, and there is a paper crafting show on daily at noon MDT - the name escapes me right now. I think it might have been on PBS originally. I find it a bit less helpful as they seem a little sketchy on some of the how-to aspects of their segments.
It's Scrapbook Memories with Julie McGuffee & Beth Madland! I first saw the show on PBS, but it's currently not on the local programing. I was flipping stations and found it on BYU, who knew!! It's the only paper crafting show on right now....
The show they replaced her with Crafter's Coast to Coast was awful. The cameral movements made me naseaus (and I never have been carsick in my life)!!
I agree! The close ups of faces made me think I was seeing them in a crazy mirror at a carnival. Certainly there were not enough "how to" details when I was watching.
And that southern lady Mary from Hot Potatoes that ironed rubber stamp images on velvet?
And Becky who made the most UBER cute little things out of polymer clay (which I never got the hang of)??
And that nice Japanese lady who made the paper things?
And the neonatologist who made awful things out of the stuff she found laying around the hospital - it looked like it was all right out of Pack O'Fun magazine!
And Dee - let's not forget Dee! Her ethusiasm was infectious!
And what was the name of that decorative painter that reminded me of Flo from the old "Alice" show - the one at Mel's Diner.....
As if you can't tell, I MISS CAROL!!!! I cannot believe she is in her early 80s!!

Do remember and sure do miss all those wonderful people.

I think her name was Priscilla who was always trying to get Carol to paint!
Only one of my friends does crafts, so I could never share my love of Carol Duvall and her show with anyone. I'm so glad I found this thread. I really loved her show and I watched it whenever I could. I even loved the reruns. I really miss her.
I used to watch HGTV alot. But now their shows just don't appeal to me. I'm not into home decorating and landscaping. If they would have one or two good crafting shows like Carol's was, I would be a viewer again.

It's not only HGTV...seems like DIY has a lot less craft shows also. Don't understand it...crafting is still big business!!! I miss Carol also MaggieSt
I don't know what HGTV was thinking! They lost a very dedicated audience and now have only decorating shows and follow a realtor around shows. With the Scrapbooking/Papercraft industry being so huge I don't understand why there are no shows on any channels about it. Even Martha Stewart with her line of supplies rarely has a project on her show. It is primarily a cooking show.
Yes, between HGTV and DIY, most of the craft shows are gone. It looks like they air 2 in the am on HG, and 2 around noon on DIY. And one of the DIY ones is Martha Crafts, which is nothing but OLD craft segments from OLD Martha shows.
I used to watch the sewing shows too, and Alex Anderson of Simply Quilts is also no longer making shows for the networks. Last I knew, she had her own webcast type thing, but it was a paid subscription.
I know one of the DIY programs is B. Original, and it stinks. Her projects are horrible. Too "artsy" but unfinished/trashy for me. The ones I really loved were Craft Lab with Jennifer Perkins, and Creative Juice. They were at least very craft focused, and they gave good details for the projects. I do like Vicki Howell as a presenter too, but I'm not huge on knitting.
Whoever posted that all the shows on these networks are now decorating shows is right. And it's boring! How much decorating can one watch in a day?
I spoke with Sandy G. and she said we (the viewers) would have to contact DIY/HGTV with our requests. It's the only way they would listen.
Thanks for the reminder. I sent an email to HGTV, but could not find a similar link on the DIY site. I did post at DIY's bulletin board--there was a thread started about this very issue. I don't know if anyone in programming monitors the boards, though. I'm sure there was a link somewhere for programming requests, but I sure couldn't find it!
Hi. Have any of you viewed this yet? What did you think?
I went to the site but was sad to see it was a dvd. I thought it was an actual trip you could sign up for. I am ready for an Art retreat!

Such a shame. I miss her program. I also miss all of the quilting shows that used to be on. With their emphasis on the younger audience I feel like a crafting "has been".

Do you remember the five minute quickie session she would do in between other shows? This was before she got her own full half hour show. It totally fascinated me as a child. As a result of watching her as a little girl, I decided I wanted to be an Art teacher. I owe my career to h

I was a devoted Carol Duvall fan. At one time, her show was on twice a day on HGTV, and I would tape both so I wouldn't miss an episode. I even watched reruns because I enjoyed her so much.
No one else can host a craft show like Carol does. She was always so respectful of her guests. She asked for clarification when needed, and never tried to show up a guest (like some other's do). She is always genuinely interested and, for most crafts, you could actually learn how to do the project by watching her show.
I remember when they announced it would be the last season, and that they had taped it in advance of the announcement. I was so sad to see her go. I thought it was mainly because she wanted to take time for herself, to do the crafts she always wanted to do but never had time for.
On Mary O'Neill's website/store, Hot Potatoes, Mary posted an entry about Carol and said that she truly is as wonderful a person off camera as she is on camera.
I feel like she is a friend, and I miss seeing her every day.
Oh - and p.s. Her friend, Linda, died a few years before the show ended. She had Linda's crafts displayed around the studio, and spoke of her often, so I was a little surprised to see the comment above saying that is why she left the show.
Reruns of The Carol Duvall Show are on the DIY Network on Mondays at noon (CST). I tape them all, even if I've seen them, and have several saved on my DVR.
Check DIY's website (diynetwork.com) for last minute schedule changes. Seems Carol's show gets moved around a lot! I was going to buy her book at Michael's, but won't now since you can't use the coupons for books.
I love DIY. I would watch all the craft shows, though they were reruns by the time I tuned in. For the last 2 years or so Ive just been watching reruns. What about a new craft related show?? Lately it seems that there are only home type shows. i could probably remodel a bathroom blind-folded.
