This is for Limited Supply Challenge 78 to use no other embellishment than ribbon. I have used ribbon as a scarf on individuals snowmen but thought it would look really cute to try to put them on all the of our Flaky Friends. I absolutely love this pack of snowmen.
I masked off the snowmen and stamped the trees around them. I used the tree from Loads of Love to accompany the star tree from Flaky friends. I painted the scene with creinkers and watercolor brushes. I used my craft knife to put slits on both sides of each snowman neck scarf and poked the ribbons ends through with my paper piercer. I attached each end on the back with a glue dot to hold it securely. I used glue dots on each scarf end to secure it to the front of the card. The ribbon was too big to tie around the necks so I just looped it over so I wouldn't cover up too much of the snowmen faces.
I used white craft ink and a dauber to apply the snow cover for the ground and made snow with it with the seeds stamp from Petal Pushers. I went over the black ground lines with a white glue pen to cover them up. I wasn't sure if I would be allowed to use embossing powder or liquid applique since it they are both accessories so I played it safe. I put the scene on a layer of the new designer paper that I had wiped across the cranberry ink to make it a brighter red to match the reinkers that I painted with. Reinkers almost always color more vivid than the paper you are trying to match. I had painted the treess with mellow moss and had to use artichoke cardstock for the main layer.
I sponged More Mustard around the scene to create a light and to brighten up the image since I used Kraft paper. I love kraft paper with these country themed cards.
Here's a color choice tip I learned last winter from Jami's(our newest Dirty Girl) beautiful work with Flaky Friends. You can make them cuter than ever if you just pick two complimenting colors to work with when coloring them. I had never had much success with Flaky Friends looking cute as I always tried to play up the fact that they would all be wearing raggy leftover appearal and to color them with many colors. The overload of colors never allowed there to be a focus and distracted from the scene rather than add.
