I'm hosting this week's color challenge and chose Fresh Freesia, Rich Razzleberry and Evening Evergreen. The dessert option, should you choose to partake, is dry embossing.
I'm not sure what I was thinking when I chose Dry embossing - it wasn't really working with the stamp I thought I would use. Luckily, I came across a post by Sandi MacIver referring to an idea by another artist, Enna, and a video that Sandi made about an embossing folder technique. True to my usual approach I didn't exactly follow the directions, partly due to the fact that my stash is a bit different. Anyway, I tried the general idea with this weeks colors and ended up with several sheets. Sandi shows this technique by coloring in the background (negative space) with black. I just applied my darkest color, Evening Evergreen, directly to the folder, hoping it would provide good coverage and ... it did! The hardest part was deciding to cut it into 2 pieces. I added some gold accents and a corner leaf embellishment die cut from another of the pieces. I think the other pieces are destined for February birthday cards as I need several more this week...
I hope you get a chance to join us in this week's challenge. Happy Valentine's Day!
eta: Here is the video that inspired me: Please note that this isn't quite what I did. I spelled that out in my next post that shows what I did with the rest of my piece. The first time I watched this, it was with the sound off since I didn't want to wake DH. But that was enough to inspire me me to play! It's even better with the sound on!!!

Wow, this is amazing! Fabulous embossing technique. You made it your own with the colors and the added gold touches & mat. The tag is terrific. A beautiful display of the challenge colors. Love it.

The background technique turned out great Chris. And the gold accents it so nicely. You should put a link to the tutorial- I also would like to see how it's done.

OMG, Chris! This has got to be my favorite ever of all the beautiful cards you’ve made. Of course, I sat down this morning to look at the gallery, and immediately went down the YouTube rabbit hole. But I’m so glad I did. That technique looks like so much fun, I can’t wait to give it a try. Just an absolutely gorgeous card! Thanks for a beautiful color palette this week.
