I needed leaves that were about 1-1/2" in size to fit the sketch, so I pulled out my Stampin' Up! 2006 "Fantastic Foliage" set. I used three of the leaves in that set, but needed a fourth. So, I turned their "Colorful Seasons" for a plain maple leaf. I stamped each leaf on a piece of colored cardstock using Versafine Onyx Black ink (it's a pigment ink, so doesn't clean off the stamp surfaces very well, but makes a fantastic crisp stamped image!). Since the maple leaf looks so different than the leaves in the other set, I used a Sharpie fine tip black marker to stipple that leaf for a similar look.
After fussy cutting the four leaves out with paper snips, I crinkled/crumpled each leaf to break down the paper fibers and soften the look of the stamped images to make them look more dimensional and real.
I glued the leaves to 1-1/2" squares I had die cut using the SU "Stitched Shapes" die. I only glued in the center of the leaves and the tip of their stems. This crumpled look will last even after the card has been mailed!
The card background is from the My Mind's Eye (MME) "Reunion" paper pad, as is the dark patterned horizontal panel. The panel behind the ivory squares is SU Kraft cardstock.
The sentiment is from the SU "Piece of Cake" stamp set. I stamped it on ivory cardstock, then used the 2-1/8" stitched square die to cut the sentiment right beneath the sentiment, then a second time with the same die by moving the top of the die down to right above the stamped sentiment (being sure to only run the die through my Big Shot just to cut the top of the die, and not the sides. I have found this is the best way to customize the die cut without double cutting the sides of the die, which typically is never exactly on top of the previous cut. The sentiment was attached to the card front using foam tape.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5". The most difficult part was fussy cutting the leaves and doing the custom cut for the sentiment.
I plan to use this card to send to my brother-in-law who has a fall birthday.
