The challenge was to create a Christmas card with three diagonal elements. I right away thought of the retired Stampin' Up! Stitched Stockings stamp set and it's matching punch hanging on a stair railing.
The stairs was created by stamping the SU Hardwood background stamp onto a piece of Kraft cardstock, then using my paper trimmer and paper snips to cut the handrail and bottom rail, and 1/8" wide black "wrought iron" spindles. The top railing was a two-piece unit that was cut to look like an overhanging railing for added dimension. The top part of the handrail was also sponged on the edges with SU Early Espresso ink to give more of a rounded effect as well as shadowing. The spindles were attached to the back of the handrail and bottom rail using Mini Glue Dots every 1/2".
The stockings were stamped 3x with my MISTI (to ensure compete coverage for the large solid areas of the stockings) using the SU "Stitched Stocking" set, and punched out with the SU "Stocking Builder" punch. Whisper White cardstock was used for the red and blue stockings. SU Garden Green cardstock was used for the green stocking. The shiny trim on all three stockings were punched from DCWV Glitzy Glitter pad of cardstock. These trim pieces were attached to the stockings using Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
Two Mini Glue Dots were used on each stocking to attach then to the staircase. With all the glue dots on the back, the staircase was easy to attached to the card base.
The sentiment was stamped using the matched pair of greetings from the SU "White Christmas" photopolymer stamp set with Versafine Black Onyx ink (to ensure that the detail in the lettering was maintained without filling in the letters).
I rated this card at a difficulty of "4" because of all the detail work cutting and attaching the spindles to the staircase.

This is such a fun card and a brilliant idea for the sketch. So clever and I love the wood effect. Thanks for playing along at Christmas Card Throwdown. AlisonC DT
